LMAO no it wasn't because "stoic doesnt translate well to westerners". Samus throughout the entire fucking franchise up to that point had been stoic. It's because it made her act completely out of fucking character doing shit that would make no sense even in the game it was supposed to become the retroactive new sequel timeline, you know super metroid, the one where she finds THE BABY. Someone who spent SEVERAL GAMES doing fucking anything to survive suddenly going "ah nope nope can't use my items I have that'd save me because someone said no" shit.

They basically made her into a retarded space marine with no self preservation or any of the thinking skills that'd come with being a space marine for that game.

Seems very true for developers up for sale (huge problems behind the scenes and/or the original devs feel like cashing out). With that in mind, it’s difficult to say “what if” in regard to the direction these studios would’ve gone had Nintendo brought them under their wing (For example, every productive studio Microsoft has bought in recent years either immediately shifted into producing slop or became stuck in an intractable development hell).

I guess we’ll see with the outcome of the lawsuit. I do know that the owners of a given piece of “intellectual property” have way more power in the Japanese system (e.g., Japanese streamers need to actually get permissions to LP vidja over there).

Nintendo’s stock price is up 47% year to date. Doesn’t exactly scream “failure” to me.

Bowser is about 65 years old. He likely stuck around to see through the launch of the Switch 2. The incoming president, looking at her job history and education, is just going to be a Stacy who smiles for the camera and does interviews about how empowered she is for having a vagina while Shibata handles the day-to-day activities.

TBH I don’t see any klaxons going off. It’s a guy leaving near the retirement age and was able to get the stock price up 47% in his last year and able to get a console launched that per stock performance seems to be satisfactory to shareholders at a minimum. He’s going to be replaced by someone who does the gladhandling and one who does the “real” work.

They used the characters of a Famicom-era tie-in manga as the plot of the game. Of course westerners hated it versus a continuation of Prime or a very plot/dialogue-light "3D Super Metroid", which is what it was pitched as.

No, people hated it in the west and east because it fucking butchered those characters. This isn't a "ah no western people don't understand" or "ah it's too japanese" it's just actual garbage dogshit nobody wanted or liked, and it was supposed to overwrite THE LAST SEVERAL FUCKING YEARS OF GAMES PEOPLE ACTUALLY LIKED as "non canon" to boot. Prime 4 being a thing in the first place is likely partly due to how fucking universal the backlash was to other M.

If the plan was always for him to leave, then why would he not stay through to next summer. That would be a year on the market and Summer is already a slow time. January and February are still busy and people will still spend in those months and games that miss the holidays get released then (and some companies like Capcom love that timeframe). You'll also have a Direct and likely hands on events. You can't even really evaluate how the holidays went either as the guy is already out the door. If it was amicable, then the timing makes no sense.

Sure, he is older but the timing and the fact that Nintendo is bringing in one of their own to oversee stuff is a sign that something went wrong.
