I don't know that I buy that. They still release Kirby, Donkey Kong and Yoshi platformers. Later Wario Land games were just as distinct from Mario as Donkey Kong is.
Was speaking more on 2D Mario specifically, and more around the era it died which was the late 00s.

I think when Mario went back to 2D, it helped the decline of Wario as up till that point, Wario essentially took over the 2D Mario spot from the Land titles. His first game was Mario Land 3 and from there it became his series, no new 2D Mario titles released between 92-06. NSMB became the game that would take over the handheld line, sort of kicking Wario to the back. I think the fact they initially planned for Wario to be in NSMB Wii before Miyamoto stepped in, sort of insinuated Wario would just be warped into the brand.

As for DK and Yoshi. Honestly, neither were doing that hot at the time and mostly relegated to quirky spin-off material throughout the 00s. DK would only get saved due to Retro showing interest going into the new decade. Yoshi was also pretty dead main-series wise beyond DS, it took till New Island and more importantly GoodFeel to save Yoshi.

Wario seemed like a product of circumstances. Nintendo wanted to have Mario 2D titles, but was placing it on a developer that didn't want to do that, so the dev quickly changed it to their own original character. The Mario series was in an experimental stage during the transition to 3D, so there was no clear indicator on whether or not Mario would/should ever drop a dimension after 64. Eventually, Wario team would disband, and Nintendo would push to give Mario more of a consistent identity, bringing him back to his 2D roots. With low sales, a lack of dedicated team, and Mario retaking the line, there was no need for Wario anymore. Anything after would only come about due to a 2nd party studio taking interest, which Wario seemed to have basically no takers unlike DK and Yoshi.

Basically this:
Warioware is the one that's still going though. I think it's essentially the opposite, suits look at warioland and just see "another platformer", when donkey kong already fills their "another platformer" quota. They don't know games enough to see all the unique things it has over mario, so they figure if they're going to be making a relatively much more niche title either way, might as well make something completely different to cover more genres and audiences.

Don't really have any interest in it, but it sounds like it's gonna sell like crack in the ghetto in japan, further cementing their stranglehold.

Calling it now, it will have gay shit and everyone will sperg out in different directions over it.
If it does not, I will engineer it into being since that is the whole point of the game.

Unrelated: playing DK Bananza and currently sitting on 10 skill points. What are my skill priorities?

Apparently the Switch and Switch 2 ports of Dispatch are heavily censored. The other versions had a censorship toggle for sex and nudity basically no one used, and on Switch the toggle is permanently enabled. Despite this the Switch versions have the same rating as other platforms, rated M for nudity among other things, and there was no warning prior to release. The devs say it was forced by Nintendo. Nintendo is giving refunds to people who pre-ordered and complain to support.

This is pissing off basically everyone since the game was "safe horny" with mainstream approval and other games like Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 already have explicit nudity on Nintendo platforms. It will be interesting to see how/if Nintendo responds to the controversy.

Never heard of it, is it a VN?
It's an VN with some extra stuff taped to it. OvOverall, this is essentially an adult parody of capeshit. You aren't missing out on much of anything.

But more importantly, I won't be surprised if someone made that decision entirely because of the artstyle

So it turns out this is what happens when you have a woman president. I'm really hoping Nintendo's stocks tank over this because this is quite possibly the most egregious example of grooming I've ever seen. Giving kids a tranny option and even worse, asking kids who they want to fuck genuinely makes my stomach churn. Heads need to roll over this. Parents need to make noise. Boycott all things Nintendo from here on out. They quite literally want your kids to be groomed.

I thought this was going to be like Wii Sports or something because I grew up with that shit, so seeing that they turned Miis, a symbol of my childhood into a grooming icon genuinely makes me feel sick.

Tomadachi Life sequel looks great. I was expecting the island shit to limit things, but then they zoomed out and the city sizes dwarf the ones in the original game.
So you're a pedophile.

Apparently, the "nonbinary" option is exclusively in english, and the japanese option just says "other", using a word without the same sort of political connotations, apparently referring to the fact you can make things like teddy bears and robots and aliens and shit like that as miis. Still unsurprising but also disappointing they gave in to the fag shit at all.

Proof that a woman running your company ruins everything. Does the Japanese one also have just normal marriage?

I knew Nintendo were a woke company now… but actually using the word “nonbinary” is INSANE. That is a level of wokeness I did not expect them to reach this quickly.

The funny thing is that the Mii Maker on the console itself still only has two options, so at least some people at Nintendo are aware of how bullshit this NB stuff is.
