Nintendo Switch Presentation - Live Stream - Post Presentation Discussion

I think it's extremely shit that online will be paid just like with the other consoles.

I'm mixed. The games interest me, but...

Good thing I'll be getting a nice wad of cash in time for this shit. Tax return + workplace bonus, niggas!

It says something about how important a YouTuber was to a game getting popular in the States, that at least half of the comments on the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 trailer were people wondering when Chuggaaconroy is going to let's play it.

I'm really torn on this. The new Mario is looking good for the most part, so does the new Zelda, a new proper Bomberman, No More Heroes, SMT, Splatoon 2, FINALLY they're dropping region locking...

But everything around it is so alienating. The cost of one JoyCon is 50 bucks, online has to be paid for, Nintendo pushes for artificial scarcity again judging by the preorder strategy... This'll be a holiday buy at the earliest, definitely not picking it up at launch.

After the initial reveal, I realize this is not a console to buy at launch. Then again very few consoles now days are. Zelda alone isn't worth the full $300+ initial investment. Aside from Zelda there's absolutely no games at launch I'd want. I'm concerned about Nintendo's long term support for this system and their ability to live up to third party support. These concerns are completely separate from specs... 2 1/2 - 6 hour battery is potentially problematic. I noticed they didn't once mention resolution which really has me worried because the footage they were showing look very low quality on the big screen. I guess I'll do what I should have done with the Wii U and wait until there's at least three to five games worth owning for it.

Me too.

I'm optimistic on the interoperability and openness of it, since it is nearly an nVidia Shield and probably the first Ninty console we can actually directly connect to a personal computer. It'll be easier to tinker with and might end up with a good homebrew scene.

The USB Type-C connector, the 802.11ac WiFi transceiver and the removal of region locks gives me hope since they're finally adapting to modern hardware. In contrast the n3DS didn't even have a transceiver capable of supporting 802.11n, and the WiiU was still based on fucking PowerPC.

I still didn't get everything I have a concern about in one post. The games:

Mario Odyssey - It's great to see them deviate from NSMB clones and it seems like they're open to different ideas. However, the real world levels look really...Bad. Maybe it's Sonic 2006 PTSD but it doesn't bode well. Probably won't be out until 2018.

Splatoon 2 - More of the same, no Callie and Marie? Really? It's sad to know that when this comes out the first game will be dead. Not a launch title.

Xenoblade 2 - This surprised me a little, but we knew a new Xeno game was coming. Hope the font and UI is easier to read. MC has autistic outfit. Definitely not a launch title.

SMT - Need more info, would have been nice to get P5 instead. Definitely not a launch title.

Fire Emblem Warriors - I'm sure it will be fun, but once again, not a launch title.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - Should have been a launch title. Should not be full price, the balloon battles should have been in MK8 to begin with.

Dragon Quest Heroes 1 and 2 - Hope these are better ports than the PC version. Not worth buying the console for.

Dragon Quest X and XI - They said Japan, nothing about US release which pissed me off quite a lot.

Skyrim - A game released over 5 years ago should not be a reason to buy a console. It's not even the special edition. Once again, not a fucking launch title! Why Todd-san!?

Zelda - The only launch title worth a shit, we didn't see anything other than voice acted scenes, no new gameplay to settle my gameplay fears. Still looks questionable graphically compared to what it could have been (2014 demo). Game looks choppy with FPS. No mention of Wii U version.

Anything else I forgot or wasn't worth mentioning. NMH3 literally had nothing to show. I'm concerned about the software support, I'm concerned at how big of a money sink this will be. I'm also concerned about the video output, they're dodging announcing it. I'm tired of Nintendo dropping the ball so many times.

(edit) forgot about Xenoblade. Games like Bomberman, Disgaea 5 (why is this even a thing on the Switch?) and the other small snippets weren't worth mentioning.

Fire Emblem Warriors? Fuck yeah!
TL;DR: I loved the ____Warriors games, maybe I grew out of them -- but I love Fire Emblem so Im pumped for the idea, I just hope they dont ruin it like they did with Hyrule Warriors. Fire Emblem Warriors could be really cool, but having expectations for it could mean it could also really suck.

This is maybe powerleveling but as a teenager I was way, way into the Dynasty/Samurai Warriors series, it's basically a fighting game where you dont need any skill to be good at it and you can just mash buttons and block occasionally plus I thought it was SO COOL that Zhao Yun could jump into the sky and use his spear to summon a meteor or something to slam down on a group of bad guys. It's kind of like a 3D beat em up game except something like Streets of Rage was harder. They actually had a French Revisionist History version of the game based on the 100 Years War, where they turned a bunch of Europeans into an anime, but I dont think it ever made it over which in retrospect is kind of a shame.

When I was deep into the "Warriors" series, I had thought it would be so fucking cool to have a Zelda Hyrule warriors. While reading about Dynasty Warriors Online (2003-2005 around then) and the progression through that game I thought it would be cool to start out as some blank faced recruit and eventually run through enough missions and ranks until you find out you are the hero of Hyrule or at least his most trusted bodygaurd/ally and you build up into that character and are able to make tactical decisions and shit, siege castles and dungeons, stuff like that.

I dont know if it was because of my old expectations or what but I felt Nintendo actually managed to fuck it up and ruin the fun of the game. There are like a dozen characters, no new guys, and NONE of your allies are capable of doing anything. Yeah the fun of the game is that youre the superhero going around and accomplishing tasks like fighting your way to the back of the castle so the CPU can attack from the front and you catch them when they try to run away -- but it's too stressful when your allies literally cannot fight even one group of enemies long enough for you to complete one task and then tasks start piling up because youre the only one doing anything.

So basically he's Danny DeVito?
He's not even human, he's worse, he's Italian. Seriously, you think they wouldn't dare do this after Sonic 2006, but here we are folks -cringe-

I dunno, I think it works. It's not about bringing Mario into the real world like Sonic 2006, it's about showing how out-of-place Mario looks in all these foreign worlds.
