Well, you don't see Tumblrinas buying black market testosterone or estrogen because they just want to follow another trend. It's all about getting followers and attention on Tumblr. In my country, Tumblr's stupid shit is starting to spread, but what I find the funniest is that the people who I know pretend they're uberspecial on Tumblr, but are regular fucking pansies in real life. None of them bitch about using the wrong pronouns. I have this ""friend"" who's claiming to be a agender on Tumblr, with they/them pronouns. When people 'misgender' her on Tumblr, she gets 'triggered' and has an 'anxiety attack', but when you call her 'she' in real life, she doesn't say a word. It's literally all an act.

I assure you, for every timid, mousy girl who doesn't express these things IRL, there's a crazy bitch who is just chomping at the bit to do this crazy shit with an actual audience.

Doctors who deal with transgender patients have to be extra scrutinizing lately when prescribing hormones because of people like these.

This way of defining "genders" confused the absolute crap out of me for the longest time, but I think I finally figured out the mindset behind it. They've conflated "gender" so thoroughly with "gender role" that they've reduced them to a stereotype laden personality type: males are macho, aggressive, and like things like cars and video games; females are gentle, understanding, superior in every way thanks to the influence of tumblr brand feminism, and like things like pink, lace, and frills; cisgenders are boring and average in every way; transgenders are cool and interesting and brave.

So your average tumblrina takes this view, along with the desperate desire not to be lumped in with those boring cis people, and since they don't fit the rigidly defined stereotype of "male" or "female," decides that obviously means they must be neither and either makes up a new "gender," or picks one from a previous tumblrina, that more resembles the kind of result you'd get on a shitty online personality quiz than anything resembling actual gender. Like space and stars a whole lot? You're "stargender." Really into being edgy? That makes you "shadowgender." And so on and so forth. If you look at that "gender flag" tumblr and imagine each one being a results page on a quizilla quiz written by a 13 year old, it starts to make something almost resembling sense. (Still stupid as fuck, though.)

The unfortunate thing is that 'not giving a fuck' is basically what a lot of genderspergs are trying to live and express, but instead of erasing the boxes and saying "I'm a straight woman and I like trucks, so what?" they just draw endless new ones.

This is the weird thing about it, yeah. Besides, most of these girls are dressing up in masculine shit or cutting their hair short, as if there's some stigma to women wearing slacks instead of the properly-gendered petticoats and bloomers under their hoop skirts that renders them immediately not-female. It's a weird, 'progressive' spin on self-hating feminists because they got yelled at by other girls after one too many 'I play video games and think make up is dumb I'm so weird x)' type things. But most of them will grow out of it. Whatever kids (or adults, I say kids 'cause of the target demographic of the hardline gender nonbinary tumblr crowd) are seriously struggling with dysphoria will plod on as they always have, largely ignored by the rest.

The saddest thing is when they take on 'it' pronouns and 'reclaim' the word 'queer,' then say they're being oppressed by the gender binary drones when other people come in and say they shouldn't do that because of the people who get called those words while getting curb stomped by homophobes. And they think they're helping lgbt issues by drawing attention to the notion that gender is a social construct (which is a term they take to mean 'utterly pointless' the second it's mentioned; in fact, that translation + the trickle-down effect from philosophers saying 'morality/ethics are a social construct' might explain a lot of this).
