I'm kind of in that situation.

My girlfriend's here on a visa, about to start applying for her PhD and already has a Masters. If Trump wins, she won't apply to American universities because she thinks America is slipping into fascism.

Coincidentally, she's stopped going out due to covid and spends most of her leisure time on Facebook and Instagram only watching clips enforcing her point of view. Primarily from NowThis, the 98%, and other totally hip and cool pages. I've stopped trying to convince her the other side aren't swastika wearing fascists because it's gotten so caustic. I can't even be apolitical without being scolded. I love her and aren't going to let politics diminish it, but when politics get involved, it gets tough.

What really burns me is we live together and she's ready to destroy everything we have over this election. Unlike most people, she actually will leave if she gets accepted overseas, so how my relationship is tied to this fucking shitshow.

Meanwhile people are burning American flags right outside the Whitehouse and every major corporation and organization is all but openly endorsing the sentiment, but America's becoming a right-wing authoritarian state?
