It also feels pretty... lonely and alienating, for lack of better words, to be a kid and have no media with people like you for no good reason (there's no reason everything has to be a sausage fest with women as slightly more than half the human population). Especially when you get shat on for who you are, it's nice to have anything showing that it's ok to be a masculine girl or w/e.

Idk about anyone else, but as a kid I was beyond sick of everything being a sausagefest and female characters just being tokens who got the least screentime and development. It gets boring when every cartoon has a male protagonist and an entirely male cast aside from one or two token girls.

Tokenism sucks, but it doesn't mean we should stop having any characters that aren't straight white dudes.

Here's what I know from his posts on Xitter: his wife is of German extraction, and we had a convo w/r/t the famous Ben Franklin assertation that Germans were "swarthy" -- I mentioned that my mother was very German and had a habit of calling [me] Whitey when I was a kid even though my brother and I turned nut-brown in the summertime, lol, and it was a pleasant exchange. I genuinely think there is a ton of desperate engagement farming on the platform, and it brings out the cringe.

The other week, I finally got a part time job to support my studies. Within about two hours on the floor, I greeted a man and asked how I could help him and he immediately took this as me flirting with him which he continued through our interaction before trying to rip me off for two dollars at the till.

I ended up quitting for other reasons but I had been unemployed for months and within mere hours of being in public, some retard made the job uncomfortable.

Every few months I get bored in the isolation of a place I have no social life in and I download Tinder to pass the time. I've tried Bumble BFF but it's not really a "thing" in my area. None the less, in the past month Ive:

- met with a guy who was fatter and uglier than his photos and proceeded to expect me to talk to him the entire date with little input from him yet continued to message me after expecting a second date

- talked with a guy who tried to mansplain something to me about a topic I specialize in that he was wrong about but attempted to use an unrelated degree to prove why he was right. If he does hold this degree, he'd be incorrect even from that perspective so sucks for whoever trusts him professionally.

- talked with a guy who was tattooed by a guy who also tattoos hardcore loli porn for a living. He showed me this without warning and somehow the artist remains on Instagram despite Princess Peach being double penetrated on full display. When I expressed my disgust, the guy laughed it off. He then explained the artist had kids so he wasn't a full degenerate. I proposed he exposed his kids to pornography by it being on his body. He said I seemed really sensitive about it and I ended the conversation.

- I am in my thirties now so some of the shine has worn off in long term attempts to get laid but still had a guy try extra hard make all the effort for conversation just to immediately turn it off a day later when he didn't receive an invite to come to my house. I'm not sure what women are still hooking up with complete strangers in 2024 but it feels often enough for men to so commonly expect things to immediately happen just because you both like dogs or traveling.

It's too hard anymore to assume "on average" men are okay and decent people. I think very few are and I spent my twenties being completely used and abused by them. I didn't want to but I've lost most of my trust in them.

Late, but be completely honest, I haven't had a good experience when it came to representation.

I grew up as a huge target for it and had adults basically cramming books/programs into my mouth until I wanted to vomit. "She's just like you!" Something about it felt tryhard and shallow, the characters felt like poorly made clones made to fit what people expected me to want to be. I was a dumb kid and it ended up driving me away from learning more about my family's culture. Took me years to open up again because I thought it'd be the same shallow, "just like me." I get what people mean when they say they want representation, I just wish it was all natural.

I am not sure if I'm correct, any Alien enthusiasts in this thread may feel free to correct me but I read somewhere that in the OG script she was supposed to not wear the undies at all but because Sigourney Weaver had pubic hair in her crotch region that she refused to shave, the director had to settle down with her being in undies.

Spoiler: Random Alien movie facts.

Not only that but it was the 70s and the little CGI used in the movie was to remove her pubic hair.

Also since I'm off topic: Her singing Lucky Star at the 2nd was improvised by Weaver, and is the last song in Singing In The Rain, so that was also an extra expense to get the rights.

The original script didn't have Androids. But the script went through something like 8 rewrites where they wanted to change all the names. Movie only came out because Star Wars was so big. There was also no PG13 rating yet so G and R were much closer in people's minds. ( Just look at Gremlins or Indiana Jones and the temple of Doom.) And a lot of parents took their kids to see Alien because Star Wars was so popular and they were both in space...

Interestingly the novelization has a few changes that are pretty big I think ; the top one being that the novel says right away sets Ripley apart from the others (Even if I had never seen the movie it would have been obvious she was the main character, where in the movie you can't even see her pod.)

Lambert (the mtf character) never slaps Ripley, they end up giving eachother looks and grudgingly acknowledge that yes Ripley would have left them to die, shits fucked up.

It was also Weavers first movie as she was previously acting on stage. But because her character was new to the crew he kept Weaver a little isolated to foster that new guy feel. She kinda had a hard time on set from what I understand so good on her for incurring those extra costs above.

Ash (the android) just attacks Ripley, he doesn't try to mouth rape her with a magazine.

The book also goes on about Dallas being weird for having a beard because the cryo-goo gets everywhere clothes aren't practical in the pods. And can you imagine getting into a pod with full clothes and there is a wrinkle or something? It's 57 years before Ripley is found. I imagine that would not be comfortable to wake up to.

Book was okay, but. It really lacked the clostrophobia and general sense of dread and vulnerability that made the movie great. Made for a certain gaze or not, movies by being visual can tell so much more than reading.

You might've missed it, but I said a few times I work in a hospital which is like 85% female staffed. That's the main part of my job, cause I also (thank you God) get to leave to work with recovering athletes some daily. The amount of scheming and deviousness I witnessed could fill tomes and tomes and if I wrote them, it would triple the amount of misogyny on the planet.
During the pandemic we (mostly, until shit hit the fan) got a comfy tiny room where we stood in isolation almost all the time and rarely exited when there was a true need to see a patient. It was the calmest, most tranquil, most blessed time I spent in that hospital, even with wearing PPE for 8 hrs/day, sometimes in August's heatwave. Sadly, it all went away and I'm back to the estrogen daily bath.
