It's an excuse guys use to excuse behavior that does not comport with their self-image of being "a nice guy". It's a way for men to blame women for failing to manage men's emotions.

Are there even any domestic abusers who DON'T blame it on their wife for making them so mad and being such a bitch? I feel like you'd be hard pressed to find even one who admits it was entirely his fault and not "provoked" by the woman somehow. Men always use this excuse when they end up hitting their wife/gf "You drove me to this point!" and their moid friends just believe it too and stay friends with them. I doubt it, because I think men would like to consider themselves to be good people. (Most people want to consider themselves good people.) So when they're faced with a situation in which they did something objectively wrong, people have a tendency to look for mitigating factors and reasons to excuse the cognitive dissonance.

So while this isn't an exclusively male behavior, I think men are the ones using this cope mainly to minimize DV.

There are a disturbingly high proportion of moids on this forum who seem to sincerely believe that they're entitled to murder their gfs/wives if they catch them cheating. Not because his life is in danger, or for self-defense, but because they just believe that women ought to pay for infidelity with their lives.

So when they're faced with a situation in which they did something objectively wrong, people have a tendency to look for mitigating factors and reasons to excuse the cognitive dissonance.

I mean...we all know the entitlement men have to women's bodies. I've read so many accounts of women telling men to delete nudes of them they took and the men refusing because "they're my pictures. It's my property" and seeing nothing wrong with this logic.
