Short answer: There's so many drama-mongering shitters lurking and waiting for a brand new server to shit up one way or another that it murdered the original Kiwi playerbase and made Null go "Fuck this shit, I'm never running another server again".

You want a new server, you make and fund it yourself. So far, nobody wants to do this either after seeing how Kiwistation tore itself apart.

doesn't help that ss13 is programmed in a language designed by two guys in the 90s intended to teach children how to program and as a result is filled with hundreds of href exploits, many of which aren't possible to patch without refactoring the entire codebase.

So this may not be news to anyone else but it certainly took me by surprise when I attempted to go back and find some of his older videos, only to discover they're all gone:

Admiral Hippie apparently decided to DFE and quit the internet. No clue where he is now or what he's doing, and nobody else is really saying anything. According to the most informative explanation given, he may have had a mental break or something considering that he tried to commit suicide back in December of 2020.

His server and the community he more or less fostered around himself sucked, but he was usually pretty entertaining as an individual otherwise and it's a damn shame he had to go and delete all of his own original content — particularly all the music he made.

Spessman... not even once.

He trooned out.

Anyways, the IPs of everyone who played on Splurt Station (ERP server for degenerates and verified pedophiles) got leaked.
Epic win!

Thinking about just making an SS13 general drama thread at this point.
The community of the game has gone so downhill and there always seems to be some fucking troon making a mess however not sure where to start.

SS13 drama is so intricate and localized to their respective communities that getting any sort of cohesive perspective would be pretty much impossible.

i remember back in the ol goonstation days, some of the staff would organize a raid against Android Data's servers on rare occasions
One such server was for the game Cow RP. a game where you are Cows but if you even so much as hint at being a cow and not a human you get banned

The thread would bounce between the rule34 posted by vorestation players, fulp admins banning players for something completely unrelated to them, and people reminiscing on when you were still allowed to be racist against lizards on tg.

Edit: paradise and splurt exist too but All their drama is rather repetitive and not really worth talking about.

I sometimes wish there was a Byond Games General, but the funnier lore is so deep that it's hard to get nowadays.

A lot of byond games have the exact cow themes other threads do: game owners being outed as grooming kids, people committing cyber or IRL crimes against each other over internet beefs, creepy admins going on rage banning sprees, etc. There's content out there.

The "community" reddit is usually abuzz on a monthly basis with some kind of new drama and it's been this way for years now.

It's always either about troons, pedophiles, animal fuckers, or someone /pol/-posting a little too hard.

And there's this too:

There's never a cohesive narrative when it comes to SS13 drama. It always boils down to sit back, make yourself some popcorn, and watch the shitfest unfold and try to parse what the fuck it was about in the aftermath from several disenfranchised parties and shitposters.

Don't forget fallout n+1 server died today!

Apparently, Mister Stoned one (/tg/ host) put up a we support statment and a Ukraine flag or something on the servers and promptly got DDOSd by angry Russians.

Ruskie griefer channel in which he shits on the gay furry ERP server SPLURT numerous times, constantly ban evading, using tools to set up his byond CID as other prominent members of the community. Shows off duping for chems on goon, shit on people with Quark gluon so hard they removed it, etc.
Very entertaining.

So TGstation has now banned the funny nigger word, the slippery slope absolutely doesn't exist people, not one bit, complete fallacy. Next on the chopping block are tranny and faggot, because the remaining furfags are already clamoring for it.

One of the furfags on the forum actually replies in poorly edited second life(?) images and could be a hidden cow waiting to be discovered..

Is this seriously what TGstation has come to? Just last month people are saying nigger and based and then fast forward a week, I get warned on TGMC for quoting gachimuchi post-round because "it could be perceived as sexist" Now the nigbomb is banned from all OOC and IC speech and all the usual suspects are cheering (entirely furry avatars if you look at the thread)

@Null Put Kiwistation up again, I will reluctantly mod for you all goddamn day during my remote work on US weekends if only to be able to watch people play SS13 as free men again.

I was a dedicated player on /tg/ from 2012 to 2019. I stopped playing for a while around the time of the Ssseth review in early 2019 due to the massive influx of newcomers and tourists. By that point, small noticeable changes started taking form throughout 2018, but the biggest changes were occurring during my hiatus in 2019. I came back, they fucked up medbay and the overall health mechanics, completely removed genetics cloning and relocated its former shell to science, did a bunch of dumb removals like singularity/tesla ect ect so I barely hopped on for the next two years. Fast forward to 2021: I started reading up the horror stories from the /vg/ threads of what became of /tg/ such as admins trooning, power grabs by people who've climbed the internal clique ladder ect. Eventually a friend asked me to play on /tg/ last year, decided to choose an old goofy caveman name, and joined midround as the Captain. Within 5 minutes I immediately got a pm from a trialadmin who complained about the name. I wasn't happy, it's a name I used off and on for years and was not a big deal by senior admins years ago, told him that it wasn't a big deal for long, he became snarky. At that point I said fuck it and said comment below, so in typical powerflexing, he mentions incidents that occurred 4-6 years prior of name changes to justify a perma name ban. No regrets though, fuck that place. It's as good as dead in my eyes.

Seems to be a trend; that's how all the servers die. I used to play on Bee, and ho boy did that server go to shit fast.

Drama started when they made a Discord, and started enforcing all the rules there. Biggest one was the nigher ban, along with others. People were furious, mods just wanted people to be "nice to eachother".

What followed was a slow transition to "MRP". Bee had 2 servers; Sage and Golden. Sage was meant to be more MRP but the only real difference was you couldn't meta-gang on Sage.

The changes started small; first, the slurs are gone, command need to competent, no power gaming, etc.

The bigger changes came; murderboning gone, they removed many power mechanics from mining, gateway, etc.

The 'culture' quickly devolved into admins telling people how to play the game. You couldn't spark a fight or fool around without getting noted. Everyone was 'incentivized' to just do their boring jobs and "play nice". Admins gawked like hawks and were always active, so fooling around was discouraged.

The 'head admin' had very little idea how the game was meant to be played. As a result of stupid rules, the game became boring. Noj antags could only do their boring jobs, and nothing else. Since misbehaving would lead to a ban, people would not tide or fool around, and pretty much everyone who didn't do their job were antags. As an antag it was very restrictive who you can and cannot kill. You could no longer blow up cargo to kill your target. Plasmaflooding medbay was always a ban. Syndie bombs were banned altogether.

Admins were really loose with Security though. They could do pretty much anything they wanted. Assistant shoved you? 5 mins. Clown slipped you? 10 mins in brig! No negative effects. They literally created the prison experiment.

The coders were even more out of touch. I know that because I tried to make my own changes. Big 'nerfs' were pushed over an hour and would break everything. One coder would decide "I don't like that" and would just change it breaking the game. Etc etc. Eventually they nerfed mining and implants, removed game modes like wizard and nukies, and added boring features.

Bee is very boring to play nowadays. The admins hawk all the time and every little slipup can get you a 'bwoink'. As an antag you need to know the rules and what you can do. They tried to make a MRP server for a playerbase that doesn't want it. The rules are strict and pretty much everyone is gone, only people who bicker when you break a rule are left. It's not fun to have to fight with admins over rules cause someone reported you for cuffing them.

I think SS13 lost its way ever since they changed combat to make "every encounter have an equal opportunity". SS13 is not about combat. Combat should be quick and dirty, and antags should be able to kill anyone quick and dirty. SS13 is about the antags; not the players. Antags make the game fun and should be prioritized. Without antags SS13 is just a shitty tile based space sim, and there's a billion better ones out there. It's not the systems that make SS13 great; it's the players and player interaction.

I only played on Bee because it was shitty in a good way. My only ss13 stream was on Bee because I knew tg would throw a fit if you steamed but Bee wouldn't care. Typical Bee rounds when I played lasted very short amounts of time and I frequently griefed as a doctor named Josef Mengele without consequence. Half the station was gone by the time shuttle docked.
