Official Space Station 13 Server

Mostly fixing medical and research. That's a lot of work though. I'd really like to but I dunno how to like, drum up a player base for the server. I'd really like 50 consistent players but I realize that's probably a big ask considering for ss13.
I don't think its as big of an ask as you think it is. I think its jut going to be persistence and cultivating a community, I dunno why but I'm pretty confident you could pull those off if you set your mind to it.

Are the odds high that I can get a low impact role to be a retard in if I play the video game?
I found Cook very good for getting familiar with a lot of the basics.

Read those, set cook preference to high, janitor to low.

Janitor duty is also very basic, maybe good just for learning how to move, interact with objects, figure out how to find places in the station. It's almost too basic though, especially if the server is kind of dead when you log on.

Cook will give you a lot more to do with out being too overwhelmed. Even if no other player comes around you'll still have plenty to do making food and will take a while to burn through the initial kitchen stock.

You have to manage your inventory, work different machines, figure out oh to use items on each other, use items in hand (default key Z, took me a while beating myself with a directionial aid to learn that), look up recipes to make things, basic easy RPing by asking other players what they want to eat and seeing if you can make it, talking to players in other departments with the neighboring hydroponics for more food.

And if you fuck it up most players will subsist on vending machine junk food for long enough to make it to the destruction of the station anyways, so it's low pressure.

Edit: note this is my perception from a couple of days of learning the ropes, is any experienced players have corrections please add.

@Null have you considered asking/checking out the Bee codebase to port over some of their fixes? They do a fairly good job of re-adding lost features like cloning, sleepers, and other similar stuff. If there's anything /tg/ fucked up, there's a good chance they've already done the legwork to revert it without breaking anything. They like a much older version of medbay though so it might not be quite what you want.

Bee is definitely not something I want to port things from without scrutiny because their game feels so fucking shitty when you get into it. I just want to tweak medical so that fixing a body is fun and reasonable.

Do you need voice chat at all? Or is in-game text chat good enough? I’m thinking of trying it tonight.

Yeah that's understandable. I don't think Beechem is that interesting either, but it could be a resource for identifying fixes if you can find an old PR that reverted something from the main branch that you dislike. Makes it easier to track down problems before they happen since they already did it first.

It's text only.

I have had a crippling addiction to this game for years now, I will totally be around the server. Just PLEASE for the love of God increase the movement speed, it feels like walking through treacle after playing Bee/Hippie.

Since we are talking about shitty /tg/ changes that are bad, I suggest reverting this PR. It is fucking awful and makes the game less fun.

Is there a setting to disable this?
Edit: There isn't. I'm going to make one.

Probably. I don't know the magic rune scripting known to the layman as "coding" very well, but I remember sometime around this time last year reading in the changelings that TG's administration decided to slow down the movement speed of their fork, and did so incrementally, dropping it something like 0.2 [insert unit here] every 2-3 weeks so that people would slowly adjust to the new movement speed rather than get immediately pissed off at the switch and scream for it to be reverted. Where that variable would be, I have no idea, maybe in the human mob?

After some time I ran out of meat in the kitchen so I tried to put the monkey in the cafeteria down with the pantry shotgun. I missed and he got pissed, stole my shotgun and chased me around killing the clown in the process. I ended up losing the monkey, the shotgun and then out of nowhere some rando started throwing poker cards at me so I did the reasonable thing: deepfried the cards and served them with hot sauce. All of a sudden the monkey comes back with a fire extinguisher and tries to murder me. Somehow I managed to knock him down with an electric guitar from the smoking lounge but got pretty battered in the process so I went to infirmary where a doctor couldn't give me a scalpel to chase the now furious kitchen monkey and he only had an epipen for my injuries. Then I died of insuline od.

Cook best role.

If any new players pick up a cook tonight, check and see if I'm in botany. I'm planning on trying to figure out how to grow food for the kitchen and will happily pass on anything I've learned while I figure out how to make it so the kitchen isn't grinding up monkey and corpse meat once the three starter bags of flour run out.

Look at this man, kiwis

this man has single-handedly survived all events of Kiwi Station 13
No plasma floods, space sharks, changelings, traitors or SM explosions can stop this man

what a chad
