I joked a few times about bringing back Steelsec.

But for real, steelsec would be an improvement over what we have now. Disablers become M1911's, riot shotguns are combat shotguns, Eguns are SMG's. All with loyalty firing pins.

There was this one HRP server I was on, and in order to compensate for their sec being unrobust as fuck, their warden had a gun that sprayed six disabler shots in an arc similar to buckshot. Granted, I still dodged like six of those blasts while punking everyone as the clown, because HRP, but that sort of equipment got the noggin' joggin'.

What happened to circuits, I remember someone once made a fucking hilarious disabler minigun that would stamcrit in seconds. Since it was also made out of eguns it could kill in a moment as well.

But Steelsec sounds based as well. Security would be something to genuinely fear running into, not a minor inconvenience at worst and free access most of the time.

It's fun when a particularly robust antagonist can kill the entire station. But at the same time, a particularly robust security officer should be able to bring a vast amount of shitters to heel.

A few weeks ago I decided to play on a new server I hadn't recognized: Kiwistation. Admittedly I had fun the time I played there, but I kept getting annoyed at the "offensive" humor. I saw that someone else here had raised the same issue, and when that thread was mentioned on the server itself people dismissed it because r/ss13 is a place where the big five "politically correct" servers come to circlejerk about how much better they are than everyone else.

I guess we need to make something clear: there is a lot space between the politically correct, left-leaning politics of Goonstation and the "look how edgy I am mom!" racial caricatures of Kiwistation. For example, on the "secret clubhouse" server (the videogame oriented cousin of /tg/) there are clearly politically incorrect things that are said, like racial or ethnic jokes. But on kiwi you can regularly expect to see black guys with afros eating watermelon and smoking weed named "Dindu Nuffin". This isn't really funny, especially the frequency at which they do it with. The "humor" comes less from the intrinsic funniness of that joke and more from how "shocking" and "offensive" it is, and how the players imagine the reactions of others.

Put another way, there are comedians like Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle who make politically incorrect jokes about women, like how much they complain or how they like spending money. That's a lot different than making jokes saying that women deserved to be raped or that they are intellectually inferior and should be reduced to second class citizens.

I encourage everyone who plays on Kiwi to grow up and stop engaging in this type of "humor". Only edgy 12 year olds find this kind of stuff funny. You should take a long look in the mirror and ask yourself why you think shouting the n word is funny.

Beforehand you could just speed around and taser cunts that got too close and move on; now you have to just hope there's another officer or the other shitters aren't around when you haul off one of them. Especially egregious when they slow you down even further by going limp.

I think the lack of ability to do basic crowd control of anything more than literally one person is securities biggest issue right now. Being able to drop someone who is a threat used to be securities way of matching against multiple people; and removing that makes security incredibly vulnerable when they need to arrest someone and don't have fifteen minutes to debate with the entire crew why they're doing it to avoid the crew dragging the guy away and freeing him.

Sec is vulnerable as shit because aside from flashbangs, they have NO crowd control whatsoever. I mentioned how Sec on /tg/ never uses Sec comms and doesn't coordinate, but Sec on Kiwi Station simply doesn't exist at all.

Some kind of tear gas "flamethrower" would be useful against crowds. Or taser grenades. Or just regular fucking grenades, because at this point you might as well just crush the skull of anyone who attacks you on the meta basis that Sec aren't ever antags and anyone who attacks Sec would be an antag. I know that's shitsec, but I'm pretty sure the dedicated shitters are making new Byond accounts as fast as the jannies can ban.

Your side of the story:
I was the Quartermaster of that round and a gun event wizard had recently been killed and I was chilling around the halls, collecting guns people left behind to throw in cargo. I saw sec officer dual wielding disablers while laying on the ground and decided to watch what'd happen from around the corner. I saw him start unloading into the chaplain and then HoP and the warden eventually came to help cart off the both of them. I had previously seen the HoP and chaplain help kill the wizard and had no reason to believe they were up to no good, from my perspective it seemed like sec was getting angtsy about everyone having guns so I escalated the situation by unloading my gun into the arresting officer and healing the chaplain and HoP then declaring that secs were shits and to attack them if they tried coming into cargo after someone declared I was a criminal over comms (I explained how I saw what happened over comms with my megaphone). I didn't realize I had been in trouble for any of this until I came back after being afk at round end and noticing the round was being delayed. After I retruned I hadn't see any admin messages directed toward me and the only other ones I saw were centcomm messages that made the round seem like there was a lot of other shit going on that I hadn't seen. The only other sec officer to get killed through my actions was one who got shot into crit by one of my miners and brought into cargo.

I recognize that there had been more to that round than what I had personally seen and I shouldn't be be wrangling people I thought were being shitters. Sorry for the long winded text, I didn't have the chance to explain what had happened in the round itself.

i think the stun baton immediately knocking you over and the taser/disabler applying a slow/confused movement for the first couple of shots would be ok. Also the stun baton should be really shitty at actually damaging people to encourage sec actually taking people alive.

Something like trying to disarm spam someone holding the baton giving you a chance to grab the end and get zapped would also be p keen.

Frankly, they don't have to harm you with the baton in the first place. It's actually more effective for them to use help intent for the purpose of stunning AND it doesn't hurt people.
