Not really, Undertale, Lisa and this game basically announced themselves at the same time after the most frustrating "Mother 4" delay around 2014 and the blog/comics are far older, it totally was inspired by Yume Nikki tho.
As hard as that is to believe, Undertale still handled those aspects significantly better.

Which aspects? What Undertale did far better is the fact that it took far less time, from a far smaller team, with a much smaller kickstarter and budget and also sold the game for a much cheaper prize.

Concept wise they are really not comparable even as Mother inspired games, Undertale seams more about quirkiness, self referrential/meta, interactive freedom and story/world building while OMORI is exclusively about psychological themes and exploration like Silent Hill 2 only disguised as an RPG instead of a horror game, VERY surprisingly is also less autistic than Undertale so it'll probably never become so memable/popular.

pretty much all of the dream world segments could be cut out. They're pure filler.
I haven't played this game myself, and wasn't terribly interested in it to begin with, but there is a neat alternate path where
you can have Sunny never leave the house and the entire rest of the game is spent in dreams, none of which show up if you decide to go outside. I can't vouch for whether or not the dreams are filler, but at the very least I do think it's cool that you can get an entire alternate dream-exclusive campaign.

I dunno, I was impressed by the sheer effort that went into that idea; I can't think of many indie games, let alone RPGs that give you an entire separate campaign to play around with. No idea if that justifies the dream's presence though.

I do like omori so far, but I get what everyone's saying about the dream segments being mostly filler. I found myself enjoying the jumpscares since they felt so rare after a bit.
I never was a fan of rpg games unless they were well paced personally, and while the combat in this game was fun at first I got bored after a few hours. I plan on playing the hikkikomori route simply due to the fact apparently it has more creepy content, which is undoubtedly what i picked up the game for.

Matpat has apparently found Omori and is already giving it the Earthbound comparison.

I bought the game literally the day it came out.

It's... eh...

The startup, at minimum, is sluggish, which is killing my motivation.

It might just be a "me" thing-- I adore LISA and its sequel, but I haven't finished playing through that, either.

Though, that's at least partly because I watched the entirety of both games well before buying them.

i bought it to help cope with something that happened in my life and it helped. that's about all i can say.

Omocat, the maker of Omori, is getting cancelled, apparently:

Then again, th is not new: https://kiwifarms.net/threads/anti-fangirls-yaoi.37876/page-15#post-3310573

(I am not sure if this post is appropriate in an Off-Topic forum...)
I've seen people starting drama over this on and off. Reality: i don't care, i will like a game regardless.
in my personal opinion (regardless of if what omocat did is wrong, because i don't keep up with that shit) you can like a thing without supporting the creator.

On another not, I have a personal love for this game, but...
What I hate is how the fandom for it is already filled with neopronoun-using minors trying to say every character is transgender.

It went on sale a ways back and I picked it up. I've not really gotten terribly far into it, and I'm admittedly not the hugest fan of this type of RPG, but there is definitely a charm to the storytelling, music, and overall aesthetic that I think confirms that it isn't simply whiny teenager/manbaby-hipster wank. I couldn't care less if Omo's a fuji with a weird bag.

Seems inevitable for basically any interesting indie gem. Undertale is the most obvious and direct comparison - charming little game, not everyone's cup, but genuinely the absolute worst fucking fandom that the planet would be better off had they all churned through a garbage compactor. I just ignore them - helps to not have social media.

I find funny that despise it being the most "2010 Tumblr-esque" game ever, its completly free of pronoun and general faggorty, even strongly implying that the MC has a crush on a girl instead of flower boy like the trailers implied, all the few instances of explicit or subtle romance, are hetero too, I wonder why twitter or game journos aren't screeching about this yet.
