Seems inevitable for basically any interesting indie gem. Undertale is the most obvious and direct comparison - charming little game, not everyone's cup, but genuinely the absolute worst fucking fandom that the planet would be better off had they all churned through a garbage compactor. I just ignore them - helps to not have social media.
What a shame that it's always the indie games that get this unfortunate treatment. I'm fortunately learning my lesson on avoiding social media for this stuff.
I find funny that despise it being the most "2010 Tumblr-esque" game ever, its completly free of pronoun and general faggorty, even strongly implying that the MC has a crush on a girl instead of flower boy like the trailers implied, all the few instances of explicit or subtle romance, are hetero too, I wonder why twitter or game journos aren't screeching about this yet.
God 2010 was 11 years ago and that is pretty weird to think about now.
I'm honestly happy that there was no implied romance between Basil and the MC because.. honestly, I really don't like Basil much. I have a few spoilery reasons as to why, but i probably wont talk about them here. Nonetheless, i believe it's implied MC and Aubrey had a thing right? or at least an interest in eachother? It's cute and they have actual chemistry.

Just don't tell that to the fandom in the usual places. It can get pretty bad.

Yeaaah that's really unfortunate that people harass others for their opinions like this. They're fictional characters.
Don't worry though, I don't like to publicly express my interest in this game anywhere other than here now since it's actually safe to talk about here for the most part.

It's a damn good RPG Maker game, but I'm a sucker for those.

Are there other good ones besides Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass and such?

I found some minor lets player / omori fandom drama: Some dude named NicoB is let's playing omori and he's playing the second route of the game before the first because his mods told him to, which sparked some (justified) chimpout. You can see the comments here (obvious spoiler for the first and second day of omori)

For those who dont know Omori has two routes depending on wether you answer the door on the second day / chapter 1 or go back to sleep.

1) Answer the door = True route. This is the real story where the REAL LIFE stuff happens. You actually interact and learn the story and you can get the good or bad ending depending on your later choices.

2) Dont answer and go to sleep = Hikikomori / omori route. In this route you literally abandon the real world story. This leads to different boss fights and more post game / difficult content because but you still get the twist (that will make no sense without context) and you're automatically locked into the bad endings.

The fandom generally considers the second route more of a bonus route for those who want more gameplay, but it's hard to justify replaying the game for it since it has so much reused content. In a way, this route can also be seen as "punishing" the player for ignoring the real route.

Thus the reason i have to ask, who the fuck thought TELLING him to GO this route first was a good idea. The omori route is not a real "route", you dont really get any choice or story but you still get an ending that will come out of nowhere. It probably only exists to host the "cut content" they didnt want to throw away.

You know why people tell others to do undertale pacifist first? Because it's the objectively best way to play first. You see all the jokes, dont get overpowered, reach the neutral ending and you dont need to replay the entire game to get the good ending. I would never recommend someone to do omori route first since you're throwing away the real story for almost nothing of value.

Either way nicob shits on his fans for shitting on his mods and not accepting his "playstyle" (he doesnt get it). He's going to play the other route either way so i wonder how it will affect his enjoyment. You will learn the most important plot point in the game without context so it wont hit as hard as it should. Replaying most of the game is tiresome...

Wait so people got a let's player into doing the Hikikomori route FIRST? No context??? That's kinda messed up in the sense its a longer route and if you dont know the truth, the subtle stuff alluding to it is gonna fly over your head. Man that... that just sucks

Yeah but it's probably amusing for the peeople watching who already know the ending.

Oh true, but its not really fair for the person playing since they won't realize what they're running from. But I guess its interesting to see someone go in blind that way...

Space Boyfriend is transgender, though:

Lol no, the original character concept was created by a troon but Omocat didn't gave a fuck and did not make it canon.
In-universe the character is fictional, and comes from a 90s esque popular kid's series so that would make no sense.

Honestly, Omori is just a really nice game that I enjoy a lot. The music is great and the story genuinely hits home to me
as someone who has an older sibling.

I thought the spoiler was going to be "as someone with crippling depression or self-consuming guilt/self-hatred".

Oh BTW according to minecraft autists on twatter this game is "ableist" for "stigmatizing dissociative identity disorder" and is now getting cancelled, lol.

Of course the game that shows a mental disorder in an artistic yet honest way is getting cancelled. Like everything else.

Theres been some drama on twitter with a minecraft youtuber named Ranboo who wanted to play Omori as a subgoal but then some twitter autist said something about the game being ableist stigmatizing DID and that Sunny was a system. Yada yada.

People clowned on them because that's not what the game is about and its clear that they didn't play the game but whatever. The drama is hilarious

I'm surprised how there isnt a community thread on minecraft stans considering how much cringe i keep hearing from them. Turns out those autists ACTUALLY got #Omori to trend on twitter and tried to cancel Omocat?

If anything, i'd say the omori fandom dodged a bullet there.

Is this one of those overrated "2deep5me" 2D games like Undertale?
My review is that it toes the line, and how much you enjoy it is really going to come down to you. There were parts of the game that I found corny and derivative, but overall, the "deep" part is well delivered and just barely not "too much." That's just me, though. I went into Omori wanting it to be melodramatic, if only so that it could also be honest about its subject matter. Insofar as that, I got what I was looking for.

Despite being a game about dreamy nonsense though, it's a lot more coherent and well-considered than Undertale. And the gameplay is actually kind of fun, whereas Undertale feels like having gameplay described to you.
