Was a little disappointed that they don't like Twilight Princess.
I can understand not liking the wolf segments (me neither) but I don't think they're long or frequent enough to drag the game down that much.
Twilight Princess is underappreciated in my opinion
It's a pretty normal Zelda game, sure, but I think it's just really solid overall
It has really excellent atmosphere and music
I think Midna is one of the better partner characters in a Zelda game

Idk TP is not my favorite Zelda game but I've never really gotten what turns people off to it so much.

Twilight princess was good when it wasn't trying to be Okami.

people at least liked it
Yeah I just think it's frequently overlooked or shat upon for weird reasons, it's usually stuff like "The intro's too long" or "the game has too much bloom" which, sure, if those things bother you I see how it could impact your enjoyment but that's not really enough for me to say it's a below average Zelda game.
people love to draw midna with the fattest ass possible
and that's a good thing

How old are you, buddy? Cause you can only have this opinion if you weren't there when Twilight Princess was first released. It is in no way "underappreciated."

TP was what happened when Nintendo tried to course correct an actually underappreciated game (at the time), Wind Waker. WW was seen as childish for its cartoony artstyle therefore TP had ugly, grimy brown and grey color direction which was very popular with AAA games at the time. WW was disliked for straying away from Ocarina of Time, TP reverts to the OoT timeline with a whole bunch of references to it. Sailing was hated in WW so it's completely removed and goes back OoT mechanics and similar world map. Etc.

Nowadays, WW is much more well liked (it's rerelease with lots of QoL features also helped). With so many Zelda titles playing it safe, it stands out for trying so many different things. Its cel shaded graphics and cartoony art style has aged much better than TP's has. And so on. TP is by no means a bad game but it's exactly what a safe Zelda game would be. TP is that demo from Spaceworld 2000 as a full game. The only thing TP has over say WW is Midna, my beloved.

I'm more than old enough to have played both games when they were new excessively, "buddy".

I didn't mention WW because people love to pit these games against each other, but it's been nearly 20 years. Yew people reacted stupidly to WW's art style and to me that feels a bit like overstating the "ugliness" of TP.
TP is an extremely normal Zelda game but when you consider that the only other very normal 3D zelda was OoT which was separated by 2 wildly different Zelda games, I think complaining that they played it safe after nearly a decade of not doing that is a little silly.
Ever since TP came out, I've encountered lots of people who say they don't like it and can't tell me why really. And it turns out they usually give up before even beating the first dungeon.
So, no, I think I'm allowed to have the opinion that TP is at this point underappreciated, I find that a lot of the criticism is superficial or just an extension of the WW vs TP conversation taht's been going on for 15 years.

btw I prefer WW, I think it's a more fun and adventurous game, I'm in no way disputing the qualities of it or any other Zelda game. My point was that the positive qualities of TP or even the game as a whole are often overlooked. Also hello fellow Midna chad

Very interesting that Chris randomly chooses 88 rubber bands for his BBC joke while sitting next to Joshua "Gentile Genocider" Tomar

I think a lot of people have a worse impression of it since one of the longer wolf segments is right at the start when the game is also still busy explaining and establishing stuff which makes the beginning of the game slow but other wise I never saw any big issue either.

I remember when Twilight Princess came out and it got a 8.8 review score. People were expecting it to get absolutely perfect scores, and 8.8 became a mark of shame for a good while.

The biggest issue with Twilight Princess is that the difficulty leans far too on the easy side. So many enemies and even bosses can only do a quarter heart of damage even with attacks that look pretty devastating. Contrasts heavily against the 'dark and mature' style it was going for.

In terms of the art style at least, I wish we got to have even just one more game with it. I thought it looked pretty interesting. I don't mind the Wind Waker cartoony style or the sort of middle ground between the two games we got with Skyward Sword and Breath of the Wild, though.

I think that has a lot to do with the new control scheme. You need to remember that Twilight Princess was a launch game for the Wii. They probably were afraid of alienating people if the game was to hard. Same goes for the way to long intro/tutorial area. It got even worse in Skyward Sword, the first Zelda where you start with 6 heart containers instead of 3.

Nothing in TP is done particularly well except for, maybe, artstyle. Contemporary Zelda clones like Beyond Good and Evil and Okami mog the living shit out of TP. People used to hate Wind Waker but I don't think it'd be a hot take to say that it has way more identity than TP ever did. TP is easy as fuck. TP has some of the most insignificant OSTs in the series' history. There was a gamecube version but waggle didn't do the game any favors either.
There is nothing outright bad about TP, but I think that's about where the consensus around this game lies anyway. It's just okay. Maybe even boring in some places.
People joke about Midna's legacy with coomers but I unironically think that she, Zant and Zelda carry the game for a good chunk of those who remember it fondly. What else is there to remember?

Coomer stuff aside, Midna is just a really fun companion. Sadly Zant is a big disappointment. Such a cool design and menacing aura, thrown away at the end.
