Honestly, it just seems like AVGN syndrome. Why put effort in if it's not rewarded at all over putting none in, and just repeating the same seven jokes your audience can't seem to get enough of?

I'm not really mad or resentful about it, though, as feeling either of those things about free internet entertainment is retarded. It makes perfect sense for them to focus their energy on stuff they care about, which will be rewarded more for their putting effort in. It's sortof the inevitable, entropic decline of all channels that get large enough. Once you glimpse past the veil and realize that you've hit that critical mass of fucking retards who will clap at any shit you put out, why try to polish it?

Generally, a smart idea. While they're currently milking money off of patreon paypiggies, the economic circumstances of the world are in a moment of flux that will likely lead to less money to be thrown around by everyone, regardless of what policies or what particular retard takes office next.

We're exiting a historic period of there being more excess cash thrown around than at any other point, and so if that patreon falls through, they may need to market their services like a lot of other artists. Commissions and gigs, in essence. Maybe not this year, or the next, but down the line it's a possibility to consider. And even if you, yourself, aren't even remotely embarrassed by your bizarre fetish porn, or fetish porn commissions, it's not really a boon to your business side of things to have an easy crumb trail.

I wouldn't be surprised if Julian was also worried that their younger followers - which I again emphasize are more numerous than many folks would like to admit - would look for his other works and find that kind of thing. There is a reason that they have done at least one of these stupid streamer-makes-faces-for-children games per year for a bit now. It's lucrative.

I highly doubt that children watches Oneyplays anymore (Especially the DD or Julian streams). Maybe they did during the crash 2 LP that was like six years ago and those children have grown up by now.

If you ever ask Julian about it he would probably not answer and just ban you from the chat. But if you got an answer he would probably say the same thing as you but only because he calls his fans children to insult them. If they really cared about the younger followers they would have done it six years ago and not now. The true reason is them being afraid of drama content, being made fun of and criticized like always.
 
I actually really liked the That Which Gave Chase video. I thought the game looked atmospheric and spooky. The lighting and feel of "in a snowy forest at night" was surprisingly realistic and I thought it was impressive.
Their commentary over it of course made everything more entertaining. Zach and Tomar videos really can't be beat though.

It is sad that DingDong and Julian are so paranoid and neurotic about what seems like mildly difficult social/internet situations. It probably is a bad idea to be any level of e-famous these days if you have anxiety/depression issues. The internet is just not the same anymore where everyone else bugging you are fellow nerds.
 
It's pure cope to think oneyplays doesn't have a sizeable chunk of children in its fanbase. And idk why people are so adamant they don't. It's not an attack against you or the fanbase as a whole. So caring is just gay. They fuckin play video games on youtube, it's impossible to NOT have children in your fanbase of you do this. Especially when you stop and look at the absolutely childish merch they pump out, the childish humor that makes them cackle, the childish way they depict themselves with their cartoon avatars, and all the cartoons/animateds that depict some of the bits in the show that also happen to be some of the more childish and goofy shit they've said. And pretending like them being slightly edgey is a point against having child fans is retarded. Kids love to listen to or watch things they're told not to. And if that just so happens to be something like a sonic let's play where one of the people rants about how much he wants to fuck the bat, they'll eat it up like candy.
So it's either the fanbase has a good chunk of children in it, or it's a bunch of autistic manchildren. And I'm not sure how the latter would somehow be any better/different.

Also, DD&J are far too thin skinned/emotional/paranoid to have ever decided to put themselves out on the net. And I'd wager it's a big reason why they've never put out anything of any sort of worth beyond the random stream that, apparently, gets privated/nuked in the blink of an eye and why theyll likely never release any of the games theyre trying to do. Because putting stuff out on the internet opens you up for criticism as well as the potential to foster parasocial relationships with retards who think they're friends with you because they watched your videos or gave you 5 bucks on stream/patreon. Both of which are things the two have either railed against and/or shown a complete lack of ability to handle.

These two are deathly afraid of attracting children to their work because their deviance is easily discovered, are paranoid that people are cyber stalking them 24/7, cannot handle any amount of criticism or backlash, and have nightmares over parasocial relationships and being worthless merch that ends up in a landfill. All of which becomes far more realistic the more they put themselves out there. The oneycrew they certainly are not.

These guys might have been around the net for a long while, but they don't have the hustpa to deal with any of it. They aren't like Chris, Zach, Kcori etc who can easily tell people to go fuck themselves and not lose sleep over people not liking their shit or being obsessive weirdos. And part of me thinks it has something to do with most of the crew being OG Newgrounders, where people were not afraid of telling you how fucking shit that thing you worked on for 6 months is and how you should unironically kill yourself as a result. Having an entire forum dog pile you and blam your work for teh lulz just because, or having the very people you look up to seriously critique your efforts does wonders for toughening you up.

Like I've said before. Both of these dudes should just fucking get off the internet as a whole if they cannot handle it. Or, better yet, grow a pair and toughen the fuck up. Cause being any sort of celeb of any caliber will never be easy. And if they cannot handle it, they'll never go beyond what they are like they desperately want. They'll forever be doomed to scrape by with patreon funbucks and the odd stream money generously given to them by the exact type of person they don't want to associate with.
DD&J are their own worst enemy. And not in a constructive, perfectionist way.

I don't really care if the audience is filled with children or not, but like you said DD and especially Julian made it a big deal that children probably watches their lets plays and I bet thats why most people argue about it still to this day. My point was even the youngest child that watched oneyplays during the height of the DD&J era is reaching 17-18 now, no way they can argue they have an audience of children. And I can't fathom that a child would watch DD complain in a monotone voice for eight hours while playing retro games.

A child wouldn't watch DD stream, I agree. I'd agrue most adults would either. A child would, however, watch a group of retards play virtual FNAF or Dark Souls or KH though.

You're also assuming that no new child is just now discovering the channel. In current year, children are online more than ever as horrific as that is. Particularly when it comes to youtube. It's not outlandish to consider the possibility that there's still people under this 17-18 year old umbrella finding the channel while looking for a new let's play to watch or just looking up a game the gang just so happened to play.

I know it's weird to think of because most of us are in the general age range of the gang, so probably like 28-39 ish(unless you're an Oldman like Mick/Jeff/Stamper), and likely grew up with them in a sense, but that doesn't mean isn't a sizeable portion of the audience 15 and under. I'm not trying to claim that the fanbase is full of 8 and 10 year olds. But I am saying the fanbase definitely has its fair share if dipshit 13-15 year olds in it.

After all, isn't that around the same age most of us found these guys/newgrounds? In those early teenage to highschool years where hearing someone say faggot and make fun of dragonball or whatever was the pinnacle of comedy?

Also, in regards to Jules being the one to harp on children watching them the most, it also struck me as odd that he was so off put by the idea. Like. No shit? Kids may be part of the audience watching people play video games on youtube? A channel whose most popular series is Kingdom Hearts, a game series aimed primarily at children? *shocked Pikachu* Golly Gee, I can't imagine children stumbling on the channel while searching for Kingdom Hearts shit on youtube. That's just so wild and outlandish. Better pretend to be appalled by the idea while constantly admitting that it's a series aimed at children and talking about how kids are more online than ever before. While in a group of people who all stared their internet careers as children(13-16) themselves.

And for whatever it's worth, I wasn't referring to you or your post. Wasn't some stealth reply. Just a general statement on how so many people in this thread debate the likelihood of children being in the fanbase and how strange it is that some of them do, in fact, care.
 
There are absolutely kids watching their content, there's no question in my mind about that.
Kids are voracious lets play consumers, Oneyplays pops up in recommended especially now that they're putting out algorithmically-favorable longform compilation videos, they have very eye-catching cartoony thumbnails; kids are 100% definitely finding their channel and watching it.

But that is what it is, that's the internet. The advertisers don't care if children are being exposed to compromising content, none of the powers that be do, but if you're just a guy who makes stuff you're supposed to fret and kneecap yourself because there might be some children in your audience who might hear some bad words?

Once again if someone is so anxious that they can't handle that then making internet content probably isn't for them. There's very little you can do to avoid it while not reducing your material to valueless mush.
 
I started watching them in Middle School (2012), and my friends and I would gather around, six guys sitting in a room playing halo/warioware, while listening to that weeks sleepy cabin or other stuff they worked on, I believe in my heart that middle schoolers especially watch Oney Plays, it has always been better than Game Grumps or their modern contemporaries for the simple fact that these people have developed their podcasting skills enough to make the game itself superfluous, compare that to Danny and Arin who have the adaptability of a tortoise and Jack/Mark who are complete nigger faggots.

It's not a problem for someone to have middle schooler/high schooler fans as long as they don't interact with the fans and don't have anything to do with them.
I was a fan of Hunter Thompson when I was a middle schooler. Some kids have very edgy tastes, especially these days, and it's not the fault of the creator for kids consuming the media. It's not even always necessarily a bad thing, especially with Oneyplays, which is pretty inoffensive (to non-pearl clutching weirdos).
Oneyplays humor appeals to me as an adult but I could also definitely see it appealing to tweens/teens, and that's not a bad thing.

Something that sets the oney crew apart from, quite literally, every other let's play channel. They do not, in anyway, interact with the audience. Even during the sleepycast days, they barely ever interacted with reddit which is where you'd most likely find them responding to people. And even then it was mostly to tell people to quit being faggots or "hey. Next podcast will be out on such and such date". Maybe the odd Cory post about some autistic shit only his haters cried about.

Now the most you get is their faggot manager making a pinned comment post as the channel bout something no one talked about to begin with.
 
Earlier in this thread I shit talked Julian for not being as funny as Ding Dong but as time goes on my opinion of him has become way more positive. It's pretty clear while Ding Dong is the funnier of the two he's extremely thin skinned and mentally ill and Julian is his anchor.
