They've been not uploading in January since before COVID. Oney's excuse is that he's in Ireland now (despite most videos uploading nowadays several months after recording) and that "no one watches YouTube in January" but as another Farmer posted a few pages back, it's actually because Christmastime ad spending on YouTube is so huge that come January, the ad prices plummet and YouTubers make less money.

I don't pretend to understand the finer points of youtube ad strategy, and I get that Chris and everyone else could use a break. But I don't understand the logic behind not making ANYTHING in January because it would make less money.

There was a moment from one of Ding Dong’s streams that stuck with me for a while because of how bizarre it was. I believe it was during one of his F-Zero 99 streams in late 2023. I don’t remember exactly what they were talking about, but people in the chat started making Markiplier crying jokes. Ding Dong proceeded to get really upset and sounded on the verge of a panic attack. He started saying shit like “I-I don’t understand the joke it’s too modern for me… When people are constantly making jokes I don’t understand I get really uncomfortable.” Of course the chat immediately started apologizing, but I remember sitting there wondering what the fuck I just heard. Man is brought to tears over Markiplier crying gif joke. Every now and then this memory will pop back into my head and I’ll have a laugh over it so I thought I’d share it this time.

Keep in mind that Oney pays(?) people to edit these videos, so if January rates are bad enough he could actually lose money posting.
