A lot of people seem to think this line is the developers shit-talking everyone who didn’t like the original version of the game. Can’t say if I agree or not, though I wouldn’t put it past them.

Not so certain on that since I've seen a lot of imperious and arrogant characters go out of their way to infantilize opponents or claim they're 'playing'. I wouldn't put it past the developer to try to throw a barb but its not terribly sharp in this case. At that point in the game you know fuck-all and come to think of it that barely changes after though, maybe they think they're super clever.

They would be saying this through a shirtless yellow alpaca-angel wearing superman tights and hi-tops as well, not exactly an avatar of smug superiority.
 
I’ve been rewatching the YIIK playthrough and they’re really giving the creator a lot of leeway for stuff that goes on in the game. Maybe it’s because they’ve all been making their own games that they can empathize with the general stuff they know about the history of the game.

Mainly the music and art style (except the portraits due to clashing styles), if they started genuinely praising the writing I'd be worried

I wish that the lads went back to Mad Rat Dead just to show Chris the final boss or something, that game goes fuckin haywire
If it wasn't for them I wouldn't have known about this, so I'm glad Jooolian got a chance to show off a bit

God the yiik devs are such pseudo-intellectuals, like Christ I should've realized that earlier but this latest episode hit me in the face like a brick with all that alternate realities bullshit.

It really is a slog to play through it seems, but after watching the KH playthroughs for repeat for years, it isn't the worst thing ever. It's definetly a really interesting game and dare I say I like it in some level, even though I couldnt be assed to actually play an RPG.
