I still back it up that "Ron's Gone Wrong" needs some form of recognition anyway. It was Locksmith Animation's first film, and it was a good start. I look forward to their future projects (which will be distributed by Warner Bros) in which I hope they'll be able to climb the rankings and stop having to rely on bigger companies for distribution.

And being badly miscast. I actually think Cumberbatch is a good actor but who gets roles he doesn't suit, and that was just one of many problems with The Power of the Dog. Such Oscar catnip, but not a film worth seeing, IMO. Glad Kirsten Dunst got a nod, though.

I'd be good with Licorice Pizza and fine with Dune winning, not so much Nightmare Alley, definitely not The Power of the Dog, out of the ones I've seen. Curious about Belfast, not so much about the others.

I wonder if King Richard can bear the burden of stopping another #Oscarssowhite, considering they don't give a fuck about the non-black POC. Yes, there's loads of latino and asian representation, but considering the insufferable black wokefest that was last year, I wonder if they can tolerate no longer being over-represented.

There's no category where I've seen all the nominees, but I did think Jessica Chastain was fantastic in The Eyes of Tammy Faye and would deserve it if she won.

Edit: Also, to be fair to Don't Look Up, which I haven't seen, they thought The Big Short was a lot better than it was as well, and I believe they're both by the same guy, doing the same sort of thing. The Oscars don't often celebrate subtle, much preferring didactic, smug and obvious. One of the reasons they can be annoying is there are times when they get it right. And yes, subjective, etc. But it puts in stark contrast the number of times they go for something actively bad but it says the right thing.

What a boring list. One of the worst ever frankly.

Jessica Chastain needs that Oscar for the Eyes of Tammy Faye, she was exceptional in that film and perfectly depicted her. The prosthetics involved in that were incredible too. Andrew Garfield too was really good in that film too and I am glad he is getting noticed as he is actually a good actor. I am glad Chastain has done so well because she is legitimately good in most things except that x-men film but that film destroyed Jennifer Lawrence.

I am surprised Gaga got snubbed, House of Gucci was really fun and Adam Driver is criminally undervalued.

Luca should win, I and my partner heard about it and went in blind and thoroughly enjoyed it. It had a lot of soul into it and was just really fun. Encarto just feels like CoCo to me but shitter, so I have not watched it.

Dune isn't winning and while Pizza might win it, I'd bet on Power of the Dog due to a women directing and producing it.

Curious if you saw Nightmare Alley in color or Black and White.

If Will wins best Actor there won't be any real support for #oscarssowhite. I doubt he should win it, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

They are by the same guy. It isn't as good as The Big Short. The lack of self-awareness is staggering and it wasn't funny as a comedy. That said it's intended to be an allegory about climate change and we all know how much Hollywood cares about climate change. Which is why it stars Leo "Mr. Private Jet" DiCaprio.

Side note: The Big Short has been a negative influence over all to film imo. It contributed to the worst elements of Being The Ricardos and gave us The Laundromat by Sodenburgh. It was a nice gimmick, I hope directors + writers drop it for now on.

The Power of the Dog for women power. Licorice Pizza possibly but those are the only two I realistically see winning given the people deciding. Parasite was the first time in awhile the actual Best Picture won and I'm pretty sure they did that by accident thinking it was an inclusive choice.

Retarded conspiracies aside, every animated film nominated was made by Disney (except the Mitchells one), and Don't look up, nominated for an oscar kek
 
If Don't Look Up and/or Disney win it might be the last straw for me to reconsider my career choices. I will be rooting, as per usual, for the internationals. I will be praying for Drive My Car, The Mitchells, Belfast and The Power of the Dog to snatch some awards and of course, for J.K. Simmons to get another Oscar because he is the shit.

The internationals are usually pretty solid but they can be massive wankfests like with A Fantastic Woman.
Luca is a movie that I should have enjoyed but the fact that it reminded me of so much stuff I love and grew up with and didn't live up to its potential soured me to it. Still, in comparison with everything else Disney makes is fucking amazing but it is still Disney so I won't budge. The only Oscar they should get is for Encanto, and that shit has no right to slap as hard as it does.
 
Two MCU movies for Visuals Effects makes it seem like the Academy wanted to not include other comic book movies *cough* Zack Snyder's Justice League *cough* The Suicide Squad *cough* or other CGI heavy movies like Godzilla vs. Kong.

And if some say the reason why The Snyder Cut was not include was "because it was exclusive on HBO Max", that excuse doesn't work because movies that were exclusive on Netflix, Amazon Prime, and Disney+ were nominated.

No, but director's cuts of previously released films are ineligible, because it was technically released years ago.
 
The Oscars aren't what they used to be.

Now unless you have a bunch of foreigners in a film, homos, blacks, asians, Mexicans, Trans etc., you are considered a bigot film or TV series.

I haven't watched them for a few years simply due to the heavy political leaning that has now influenced them beyond recognition.

How I wish Jerry Stiller would do a film on the Oscars like he did a film on Film Production and Hollywood (Tropic Thunder).
