Oscars 2022

Autocorrect is weird.

And I’m glad the whole thing just continues to make the Oscars look bad.

Once again, TCM Remembers surpassed anything the Oscars Memoriam could ever accomplish.

They actually included Norm, Ed and others the Academy always leaves out for popular entertainers. Honestly, there's something I notice when I compare TCM to the Oscars.

TCM makes it about the entertainers and the people who died by giving an honorable tribute. The Oscars memorial is always about the performers singing the damn memorial more than the people who died.

I didn't relaize Helen McCrory died!

Man does TCM show they respect the arts more than the Oscars does. In fact I find it beautiful that they included Antonio Sabato Sr. I'm sure Jr. Is happy that his father was included too

“I’m just so already dramatically bored of hearing people’s opinions about it that I just don’t want to be another opinion adding to it,” he told “Good Morning Britain” hosts Susanna Reid and Ben Shephard about the altercation between Will Smith and Chris Rock at the Oscars on Sunday night.
He did recall, however, what it’s like to sit through award ceremonies when the host made jokes at his expense. “When you’re going on stuff as a kid you’re never quite sure if the joke’s with you or you’re the butt of the joke,” Radcliffe said. “So you sort of have a mode of just being like ‘I’ll just keep smiling and laughing and maybe it’ll end soon.'”

I was watching that TCM Remembers video a second time. And man is it more emotional than the oscars version. Probably because they tribute is beautiful down to the music and includes people you weren't expect. Well the Oscars go for the biggest names to die yet misses some important people like Norm and Asner(again shows what progressive peices of shit they really are for not honoring one of the orginal progressives in Hollywood at a time where democrats were the minority of Hollywood and im fucking conservative that upsets me). Also like the user above said the Oscars seem to focus more on the person singing the memorial than anything else.

TCM really is a class act. Well the Oscars are just a joke.

On top of that, I prefer the older Dean Stockwell watching a clip of him as a kid for TCM Remembers compared to what they used at the Oscars.

Just a short clip of Dean in Blue Velvet. TCM's clip was far more touching.
I hear yeah the video plays with the idea of Dean watching his childhood memories as we watch memories of him. I know pretty meta. I also love that scene of Norm smiling they used for the video. Really TCM capture all of the recent departed perfectly with their clips they use for the video. Really shows how much they care to honor.

I'm wondering the same thing. Does that mean you can't attend a award show again?
It supposedly means that you can't attend any of the Academy's events hence forth, including the awards. It also supposedly means that the Best Actor winner can't announce the Best Actress award for next year, which is a tradition for the Oscars.

I say supposedly because shit like this is so rare, I don't think they have set punishments for this stuff.

We've reached peak nonstory.

Oh no! Anyway...

To be fair, I think Ed Asner (and to a lesser extent Norm McDonald) would be more associated with TV. But then, they gave Betty White her own stand-out moment and she'd be the same. Still, made me miss her again. Several times though the production would cut to a wide shot focussing on the singers while the In Memoriam package was namechecking the 'lesser' dead, so it was just fucked all round.

Also interesting in the article is that in the whole 'asking Will to leave' issue, the black producer of the show told him that Chris wanted him to stay, which was undoubtedly a lie. I get why they couldn't get him to leave considering they likely only had an ad break's worth of time to try it, and there's no way they'd want to have their biggest black star getting led out of the auditorium on camera, even after what he'd done - but god the diversity hire seems to have made everything so much worse. Funny, that.
