Overwatch

It could have been worse:

Battlefield 2042's Sundance checks off much more of the SJW checklist. French, black, nonbinary, has a wingsuit, and is apparently an anarchist. Blizzard hasn't added any non-binary human heroes to Overwatch yet though, right?
A black non-binary anarchist who works for the French Government seems exactly like the kind've shit I would expect to hear in a BF game. Naturally she also looks like the most unoffensive light-skinned American black person you could get instead of someone from a country with actual French colonial ties.

The anniversary event is still going and I gotta say, I am loving the getting 9 wins and being rewarded with nothing since I already have the skin they're offering.
As someone who missed 90% of the week event skins, I'm glad they're bringing them back, I fucking hate the "oopsy poopsy, you missed playing the game for one day/week/etc, this item is now unobtainable forever" shit multiplayer games do these days.

Granted, I'm not retarded and going back to Overwatch, but at least they're there for the people who missed them.

i find it hilarious people are addicted to skins of all things. you wont even see them 90% of the time since your in first person.

its retarded.

Lol Doomfist got rightfully shat on, Orisa got turned from a playable tank into a nigger spear chucker.

Easily the worst legacy Overwatch probably left behind is making a lot of FPS games go for the Hero Shooter route or completely ruin their pre-existing titles.

Rainbow 6 Siege is probably the best example of a game to suffer the same fate as Overwatch, even if it still gets content. However each update makes the game staler than it was before and its all thanks to the fact Ubisoft decided to make all the dumb same mistakes Blizzard made: Force competitive on everyone, rebalance everything around competitive play, monetize the shit out of skins and customization, and completely disregard the casual audience in favor of pleasing the top 1% of players. On top of also making all the female characters porn and cosplay bait.

Battlefield 2042 also got fucked over even worse, as EA and DICE wanted to chase the hero shooter and battle royale trend with the game originally. While the BR part didn't come to live, the heroes (Specialists) did.

I do wonder if the female heroes in BF2042 (and the one Black French non-binary wingsuit anarchist) being the opposite of fap-bait, was a good idea or not. On one hand, it didn't lead to degenerates playing BF2042 (I think), but on the other hand, the Specialists are not memorable for the most part, aside from Irish (since he was also in Battlefield 4, and Irish was one of Michael K. Williams's last roles before he passed away, 2 months before 2042's release), and Angel's post-game quips. I don't think BF2042 R34 is a thing, and that's considering that even fucking TLOU2's Abby got R34 pictures made of her. Heck, someone even made LawBreakers R34, and that game died out in the blink of an eye, even faster than 2042 did.

I think DICE really also wanted to cash in on the success of Apex Legends as well and figured the formula would translate well to Battlefield. Their biggest problem though was not making Specialists really all that memorable.

I'm not gonna remember any specialists in a couple years beyond Irish. Overwatch at least was able to make their heroes memorable due to heavy saturation in marketing. BF2042 did show off the specialists in their original marketing, but you didn't know it was gonna be a hero shooter on announcement.

Orisa makes sense. Taking the most boring tank in the game and making it sligtly more playable in a PvE environment. Cool.

Doomfist's change is pure retardation, though. I never played Fist in matches, but he's a genuinely unique and fun character and they're breaking a good kit to fit him into a role he clearly isn't suited for. Buck broken.

Sad. Doomfist was a genuinely fun to play character and overall well designed. Felt really like playing a fighting game instead of a FPS. The skill was high but so was the reward.

Guess players didn't like that their autoaim didn't lock on a fast moving target and that the auto-lock abilities had trouble locking on. So he had to go. Why adapt when you can just nerf into the ground?

Of course he also did decent damage and went through shields, making him the only viable DPS. He had to go.

also there is the problem of some skins being so dull that they blend in with the surroundings and some that are bright and colorful that scream "HERE I AM SHOOT ME!".

Looking at some of the Orisa rework and how she can just mow down and backline supports, as a Tank, it makes me reconsider Overwatch. Is this just meant to be a Call of Duty like game where you spawn, die, rinse & repeat? If so, I can't care for a game where I die within seconds of anyone sneezing on me as I try to heal teammates,

Doomfist was entirely situational. Even so, he could be counted quite easily because of his low health, mediocre DPS output and gimmicky approach. I suppose you could've used him as a distraction for Payload, but you'd get gunned down in seconds.

The rocket punch was better as a movement tool than a weapon. Meteor strike is buggy and situational (you'd need Zarya and Lucio's ultimate to make the most of it.)

Nah, I'll take the readjustment of Doomfist. Playing support only to get one shot by Rocket Punch had to be the most infuriating thing in the game. No counter play to instantly dying.
Doomfist as a tank COULD work. That punch gimmick would have to be buffed for squishy characters.

The flashbacks of Symmetra's auto-aim LMB being removed, which made me flat out quit the game, are coming back.

specialists or "heroes" were always retarded when it comes to battlefield. most people play it for the combined arms gameplay on a large scale, not small teams on linear maps. that's why it makes sense for everyone to be random mooks (class coded for the sake of gameplay so you know what you're up against), not individuals. unless you have 64+ different "heroes" worthy to pick (not gonna happen due to "meta") it turns into literal clone wars which looks retarded as fuck, which is another reason why it's utterly stupid.

bf2042 is the prime example what happens when people design a game for a franchise they never played before, let alone fps genre itself.

"Blizzard plans to artificially boost Overwatch to the top game on twitch on Wednesday by requiring players to watch for at least 4 hours in a one time 8 hour window to get access to the Overwatch 2 beta and having 2 of the top streamers (Pokimane and XQC) to play it (probably being paid to). Really pathetic honestly"

i had no idea this is how gaming marketing worked these days. relaying on twitch and streamers? sad!

Pay streamers to play your product and force people to watch it for 4 hours for an invite to a beta version of a 1.5 update to your dead game instead of having your paid employees make enough content to satisfy swaths of players for over 4 hours and organically generate buzz around your product that will lead to customer retention/returns, continued sales and most importantly, continued interest: the Blizzard way.
