Overwatch

i wonder why they still dont have a 8vs8 or 12vs12 mode you can play or a free for all where you can be 6 soldiers or 6 roadhogs. you know, fun stuff.
Because the game wasn't designed with "fun" as a concept. It was thrown together garbage trying to masquerade as an e-sport - to try and make some of that DOTA/LoL e-sports sponsorship money.

If anyone at Blizzard was left with talent, you could pretty easily make up some new game modes that are fun - but they're content to just try and steal whatever's popular at the time.

Same reason with why you didn't have loadouts. You had to stick to a predefined gameplay style.

TF2 is still going strong after all these years because of subclasses and loadouts gives much more gameplay variety and new approaches. You cannot even do that in Overwatch. You're stuck with the weapons and skills a hero has and cannot change that. You want more variety to spice the game up? Wait for a new fucking hero. That was one of the reasons I never got into Overwatch.

Wasn't that somewhat doable in OW 1 with the user created matches? I'm not 100 % sure on how much the rules and core design could be stretched but I know that for a time people made some fun matches in that.

TF2 you can also make your own maps, modes, servers, and anything else.

If you want to have a 12 medic v 12 medic "crossbows only" fight, you can do it easily.

It's over for Overwatch 2

Goddamn the game is bad.
Supports had little to no changes, while Tanks and DPS got all the fun reworks, not to mention the near removal of CC on DPS/Supports.
Hey, remember how everyone hated the Dive meta like a year ago and nerfed characters that abused it? Blizzard certainly doesn't because this change is gonna bring the dreaded meta with force.

Also fuck you Blizard, stop messing with D.va Armor/HP pool, she is already a shit main tank, reducing her armor is gonna make her unviable.
I hate Blizzard's balancing decisions. They showed in HotS and they definitely show up in OW.

First, when a new meta arrives, instead of providing counters and options, they just nerf the heroes that are the best in said meta, so that people can't use the meta anymore.

Heroes often fall out of use because of that or because they get power-creeped by new heroes. Then they get a random 'remake' that changes their kit entirely.

There's no new elements introdeced or new tactics. The meta stays dull and stagnant.

That reminds me of Riot Games's reworks of champions in League of Legends, except that those are even worse, because they also change the champion's visuals, and sometimes the voice actor gets changed too. Granted, Blizzard has changed VA's before, i.e. Kael'thas's VA, but those voice changes would be like trying to replace David Bateson's voice as Agent 47 in the HITMAN games, with someone else.

Alright so I played a bunch and I have sort of written the game off. I'll play it if my friends want to play, but mainly I don't really care about it. I actually find myself wanting to play OW1 while playing OW2 which is a huge fucking problem.

It's not to say it's bad, but it's different.
It now feels like a class shooter, like TF2, and a lot of people are playing it that way. OW was always supposed to be a FPS MOBA, but it's not like that anymore.

If I had to guess what happened in Blizz offices is Kaplan probably wanted to keep the game more true to the MOBA FPS game and other people didn't and over ruled him. Considering how little they've accomplished in 2.5 years and Kaplan leaving about 6 months ago, it feels like they've only done 6 months of changes.

If gearbox was smart theyd just re-release battleborn rn.
There probably isn't a market for it.

Battleborn wasn't just a team shooter, it was a team shooter combined with a MOBA - which felt like it's own brand of hell because of all of the map objectives, griding, low mobility, and skill trees.

If you've never played Battleborn - imagine playing an OW match that took even longer, had way less teamfights, moba-style mob griding/lane management, and was even more complicated. One of the smarter things OW did was condense every single character into ~3 buttons.

Battleborn would have flopped pretty hard even without Overwatch, it was just a bad and poorly thought out game that wouldn't appeal to any specific player base. It could only really survive as a niche game (which already exists as Monday Night Combat).
