Palworld - Everything you have ever wanted from a Pokemon game

i find it really interesting that designs aren't included in the suit.

they used AI to help design the pals, if they went after the designs then that could be a problem for AI image generation. because if they won, any kind of of AI art in the commercial space might become too risky to use. so company's will stop using it, causing AI companies to lose money, causing them to lose stock, and popping the AI bubble.
with so many invested in AI right now, i wouldn't be surprised if possibly dozens of companies comming to pocketpair's side. because if they lose, an entire industry would go up in flames.
it's probably why Nintendo didn't include it, the amount of other companies fighting it would be impossible for their legal team to defend.
not only that if they lose the suit, they lose everything, designs AND gameplay mechanics.
whether it'll hold up in court is anyone's guess.
To my knowledge, they didn't use AI for any of the pals. The owner or chief of the company did mention that he liked AI at some point, but that doesn't mean they used AI for the pals.
IIRC, most of the designs came from the main artist's own creations they made over years before they got hired.

Though some of the designs are very 'inspired' IMHO, they are different enough that Nintendo didn't sue them for it.

Can we gas anyone above the age of 12 who plays Nintendo games on a regular basis? From the look of things, we wont be missing anyone important.
Not gonna lie, ever since I learned about randomizer romhacks, I've been replaying a lot of old 8 and 16 bit games on my laptop during work downtime. The Super Metroid/Link to the Past combo one is pretty fucking great.

Yeah, but you also don't want a company obliterated by frivolous and frankly evil lawsuits, just for making a game in the same genre as another game.

Its a real toss up who I want to kiss an oncoming train more. Nintendrone's fanaticism is frankly disgusting and they deserve all the bullying they get. But copyright law in general is fucking bullshit and the amount of power big companies hold to where they can practically shut down creative works for vaugue "patents" is absolutely insane.

One is retarded evil, more of misplaced loyalty than anything, but sycophants are also just so unfathomably annoying that I want bad things to happen to them. The other is pure evil and I legitimately wouldn't feel the slightest bit of sympathy seeing 99% of everyone involved in the current legal systems of most countries put into camps and left there. The legal system is mostly a spook at this point. It's not there to serve you or any other little guy, its a tool for those with infinite power already to bludgeon those they don't like with. This shit's getting old. My hope for PocketPair aren't high either, the Japanese are like Super Saiyan 4 Kikes when it comes to copyright.

Absolutely. The last nintendo console I owned was a 3DS that I jailbreaked to where I could just scan a QR code and download games free from their e-shop. Sold it to an acquaintance a few years back and the first thing this retard did was factory reset it so he could BUY GAMES.

Minor thing pointed out on /v/ - Under the English tweet, most people support the company. It's the inverse under the Japanese version of the tweet. There's a lot to individually translate, but with the Japs they did steal designs and the whole 'little vs big' company thing is disingenuous.

Reviews and discussions on steam is blowing up.

Nintendofags have been trying to pull out all the stops to try and get public opinion to turn against this game. They tried claiming that the game was caused by the AI boogeyman, they claimed it was a crypto/nft scam because the CEO of the company made a startup that was basically just Japanese coinbase, then left it to make Palworld, everything.

Nintendofags are a great case study on the effects of nostalgia on mentally and emotionally stunted people. These people spent so much of their childhoods playing Nintendo games that they have some kind of parasocial link that makes them think Nintendo can do no wrong.

Taking down fangames? Nintendo has the right to protect it's IP (Sega, Capcom and many other companies allow fangames)!
Putting romsite runners in lifetime debt slavery? Nintendo has the right to protect games that it hasn't sold in 30 years, Mathias and his wife were stupid for infringing on their copyright!
Putting flashcart creators in lifetime debt slavery? Nintendo has the right to protect their hardware from ILLEGAL COPYRIGHT INFRINGING MODIFICATIONS!!! He deserves to have 1/3rd of his wages garnished for the rest of his life!!

The only time Nintendo fans actually get "mad" is when Nintendo shuts down Smash Bros Melee tournaments, but even that's fleeting because Nintendo can just drop some new Bing Bing Wahoo remake or remaster slop and have them chomping at the bit screaming about how HYPE they are for it.

Goddamn, Japanese gamers might just be the most hardcore bootlicking drones out of any other kind of gamers. These people even put American Nintendo fans to shame with how much they deepthroat Nintendo's boots.

So many of the QRTs on Palworld's post is saying that they want the court to go hard on Palworld to show that Indie games aren't given any "special treatment" in the court of law...against one of the biggest multinational Japanese gaming corporations in the world.
Oh god, this could be it. The patent Nintendo is suing over is literally "Throw thing at creature to store them".

This, and a bunch of other patents were filed after Palworld's release, and after 20 years of other games using the same ideas. In the US, Nintendo would be laughed out of court. But Japan might have some dumb rule where the patent rights go to whoever used it first rather than when the patent was approved.

I like how this patent was filed AFTER Palworld released, so if it IS this one they will be applying a rule retroactively.

It's actually so much worse becuase that's a continuation of a previous one. and that's almost 2 years before Palworld released.

ETA: I'd like to point out that patent searching sites like Justia doesn't even have anything related to Patents made by PocketPair themselves, only patents for Pocket Pairs by other companies, so for all we know, nobody at PP didn't think to patent anything and are going to get assrapped in court while Nintendo will get away with it with impunity.

That is cultural, I remember the Japanese not caring about Toei false flagging an YouTuber's whole channel because "it's they IP, it's in their right".
That's probably why they can't even mod their own consoles without going to jail. Imagine being this much of a cuck for "intellectual property"

@Computer Guardian (sorry, don't know how to edit in replies)

I admit I am a layman; what does a patent continuation mean? Did it now go through the first time?
Edit2: Got out of my ass to research, and it seems the first patent was in limbo and they reapplied it just to fuck with Pocketpair, how petty

Patents on mechanics in games has got to be one of the single most retarded things companies can get away with.
Reminds me of when Konami sued the devs of PUMP and ITG

if you've ever read the court document regarding the case (specifically the latter), it's the most autistic and boring-as-fuck nitpicking of specific shit I've ever read.

What are the odds any court/goverment will actually tell game companies to fuck off and not allow patenting game shit anymore?

The idea of Nintendo going full patent troll because some random company BTFO their "premium" Pokemon experiences on their first try is infinitely amusing to me.
I don't actually buy much games these days, but I might just financially support the devs just for making Nintendo and TPCi shit themselves like this. Are there a lot of good mods for the game so far? I have money to spare, not like I bought a Switch or anything when my Pokemon didn't even pass the Galar border checkpoint, so I still have some vidya money saved up just for this occasion.

Wouldn't be the first time, actually, they have a history of that shit. They even sued a mobile game for having flick to attack controls. There is a very good video about it, but it's in Spanish. Here it is anyway:
