Palworld - Everything you have ever wanted from a Pokemon game

It's a circle that feeds back on itself and scratches that itch of needing to ensure all the systems are going right. Or adding a base and then making two specialized bases.

There's just so much game here.
I was surprised to find elements from The Settlers, of all fucking things, in the game. It might be unintended due to the shitty AI pathfinding, but creating optimal routes for transportation, hot springs, seeding etc. is paramount. My second base is operating MUCH more efficiently simply because I slapped it in the middle of a huge, empty field.

lol i crammed all my crap halfway into a cliff and it's doing fine, skill issue

Are catch rates tied to the region? I'm exploring high level areas and I don't think I should be using a hyper ball to catch a Kelpsie.
I know I could just teleport to the starting areas, but some of the low-level Pals are just wandering around and catching them gives me more material. Doesn't help that these little guys come at level 10 and like to break out of the ball.

You know what I fear more than Nintendo suing Palworld?

Nintendo purchasing the rights to Palworld and then tarnishing it's legacy with terrible, low rate sequels
What legacy? Its legacy is that of a game cobbled together from a ton of USB sticks in buckets that somehow works and is fun and that allegedly stole its assets from Pokemon, the unreal store or made via AI. Oh and also that of being "Pokemon, but with guns". There's really nothing to ruin it's not like GTA or RDR or even Half-Life (Fuck hunt down the refund).

Also Microsoft is more likely to buy this studio than Nintendo.
That's the same thing with DBZ fans, every single time a new action action show gets the spotlight, Invincible and One Punch Man being the most recent examples. DBZ fans lose their shits and start talking about power levels and shit.
TBFH Goku curbstomps Saitama anyday. Saitama has 0 ranged abilities, but Goku has the kamehameha. At best it's a stalemate because Saitama scales up to resist Goku's attacks if he doesn't hit him with his strongest attacks off the bat. Anyone who disagrees w/ this is an idiot who fell for the meme.

I've no idea how strong are Omniman and Invincible, but the Superman vs Goku debate needs to be settled before Superman clones can even be compared to Goku. Also Invincible BTFO'd by his own dad so IRDK, but I can see why Goku would win against him. Maybe not Omniman tho.
The terminally-online who tie their identities to the corporate products they buy and view a "competitor's" success as an attack on their personal self-image. They're probably Pokemon "fans" in the same way they're D&D "fans" or whatever other product they can wear on themselves as a bio badge of honor while badgering the company to put more support for their personal social issue crusade.
This should show up on their screen whenever these retards go online.

I think so. There's a stray Reptyro near the Free Alliance area and it definitely has significantly higher catch rates compared to ones that actually show up on the volcano area.

Unrelated to the point i replied to, I just found out even the legendary pals have generic spawns lmao. Was randomly visiting one of the high level preservation sites and saw a fuckin' stray Astegon.

Totally worth the 20 hyper spheres.

So what are the pros and cons of this game? I've been in the mood to play a survival game, I thought I would just do Vintage Story again, but if this game is actually good I might just buy it. It's already entertained me with all the seething it's produced thats for sure.

There is a bizarre bug in the game involving the wanted system. You can capture the tower bosses, and they give you a lot of xp when you capture them. But they have no attacks when you capture them. Making them useless in combat, however they can be used at your base for work.

Good chance it won't work first time. There is a weird window that I have yet to find the timing on with the bosses. But it seems to be immediately after getting attacked by the guards is the best time to throw a ball. Otherwise the ball might just bounce off.

I've captured several of the first boss, and they all have attacks, but no passive. They're actually extremely useful in combat because they have ungodly amounts of HP to the point that nothing in the game can even put a dent in them, let alone kill them. They're really good early game base workers too, since Grizzbolt has pretty good job coverage for something you can get so quickly with the exploit.

From my testing of catching a bunch of them, it seems like the bosses are set to only have "immune to capture" flags when they are actively targeting something. Because of how bosses encounters work, it was never intended for them to be encountered when not targeting something, so it makes sense why it's programmed like that, even if it's retarded. The PIDF officers shooting it while targeting you seems to fuck up its targeting routine and go into "idle" mode until it gets hit again (wether that be the player or an officer again), in which case it is now "targeting" and immune again.

Only correct answer to any power level debate is "Scrooge McDuck with his lucky penny" then refuse to elaborate

Oh catch rates! Remember you can improve your own catch rate by sacrificing lifmunk statues to the palworld church (there's a pal statue). You can find the little green statues easiest at night..

Also if you run into a lot of pal souls, those can also be used to bump the combat stats of pals you have.

I think that's the idea behind those preservations sites, there are rare and powerful Pals there, but catching them seems to be "illegal". When I was hunting for the ground variant of the purple deer thingy at one of those sites, I got a warning about criminal activity being underway as soon as I engaged in combat. I saw two high level, tanky PIDF guys coming my way, but this mechanic seems to be unfinished/bugged tho, cause they never actually attacked me.

Im gonna try to answer this while keeping my autism in check.

Pros
-Its only 1/3rd a survival game. The other 1/3 is a city management sim like Rimworld or such and the last 1/3 is of course the monster collecting aspect. The reason I list this is a pro is because all 3 aspects meld seamlessly together without feeling like a chore. In broad terms, you get rewarded on the other parts of the game for taking one part seriously, so the freedom on the player's part is nice.
-This 2nd pro is arguably just an extension of the first, but I haven't run into a single thing in the game I've been able to consider "useless". Just about every pal and every random shit I pick up has been necessary for building or crafting something. Only exception have been a handful of Pal specific drops that are only used for specific decorations.
-The world settings are immediately customizable without mods, which include all the way to drop rates, catch rates, length of in-game day/night cycles and various multipliers.
-Despite being early access, the map is pretty big with a surprisingly decent variance in biomes. I haven't really had a moment where I felt a specific area was too samey, which is a rarity for me since I normally get lost easy.

Cons
-The way the targetting reticle works can be annoying. While overall gunplay is beyond passable, the targetting controls is shared with mount controls, which include specific Pal skills that only function by targetting some kind of collision point. You'll only notice this when you have your back against the wall with a low ceiling, as the player will start shooting behind him, but it's still something you ought to be aware of.
-The game is very obviously benchmarked to be played on coop. Resource drain and tower boss HP are very obviously scaled to at least a team of two. While this most of this is easily dealt with by custom settings (doubling drop rates, catch rates and damage), sometimes it can he hard to ignore.
-Its in early access, so you can sometimes find something that they clearly haven't finished. NPC dialogue that doesn't really go anywhere or weirdly empty areas that are clearly meant to be used for something. This is also the case for the journal entries you randomly find in areas.
-This last con is a non-issue for me, but it might be for some people. Beyond some Pals being rip-offs of pokemon, certain other things are also blatant rip offs of other games. Elden Ring's Evergaols are also in Palworld lmao

It's more that it inflates tower boss HP instead of making them more challenging mechanically. You are given a 10 minute timer for a reason. If you go in with the friend it scales up HP accordingly IIRC.

Maybe just an early access thing (give tower bosses normal moves and a lot of HP and make it an endurance challenge instead of anything memorable and get it out the door)

Side note I find dungeons and towers to be really unrewarding especially given how bland dungeons are.

I gotta find a way to set up this shadow capture or whatever it is that allows you to record the last ~30 seconds of gameplay without actually having a recording going. Got raided by the Ministry of Silly Walks branch.
skedaddle.gif

One of the man-eating Pal raids also set the entirety of my protective wall on fire. Available water pals tried to extinguish them but I don't think they were having any effect, so I just had to scrap the whole thing and rebuild while nearly burning to death myself. The combustion range is REALLY large on those, by the way. Around two Eikthyrdeer lengths worth. I thought my game was bugged and I was going to stay on fire constantly.
Outside of that every other raid would just run up to the palisade and then proceed to collectively jump off a cliff.
I'm also doing something wrong with the quarry, because pals just refuse to grab and transport the stone from it. The wood to stone ratio is like 30:1.

That was a very succinct reply, exactly what I was hoping for. From taking a quick glance at the game, it looks different but fun, I like the combination of survival with more in depth base management. Might have to give this game a go.

in hindsight DAE think that the whole "this game is totally ripping off pokemon" was just a marketing scheme? once they got most of the kinks out and had their game as complete as possible then suddenly it pops up on the chans and they get people overreacting because no one has heard of a 'mon game besides pokemon in the west.

I know it seems like plenty of people i know brought the game because of the whole flappy bird style "get it before the lawsuits happen and its gone forever!" feel to it all. It helps that its a good game but thats my only explanation for how a game thats been in development for years and has been known about for years suddenly surgers in popularity

You honestly underestimate the cult that is Nintendo and nintendrones. Go back as far as you can back when soyface was still emerging and ask yourself - which company's merch was the most prominent in the backgrounds of photos taken by these slackjawed, balding abominations?
