That's what kills me the most. They refuse to cancel Bloodlines II even though that level of drama is actually public.
What's the Bloodlines drama? I only know it looked like shit, is two decades late, and has been allegedly resurrected a zillion times.

Less than 10% of France spoke French in 1789??? What did they speak then?

In the 19th century French liberal governments in Paris made it their life's goal to crush the countryside to protect their revolutions. Strict separation of Church & State that would make a euphoric atheist dance. Privileging Parisian French to the point where it became the only viable language. Putting the entire apparatus of government in that one city.

That city is now 1/3rd of the whole French economy. The French revolution inherited the ultra centralized state of the Bourbons and it shows.

There was also the whole kicking out the old guard they brought on for street cred. That was fairly ugly, but personally, I didn't really care much since the only person I trusted was Avellone. Then they gave full creative writing to a games journalist who has no real experience whatsoever. They started injecting human modern politics into it, as opposed to vampire politics, so it's already well past the expiration date by now. Then there was kicking out Hardsuit Labs to replace them with something even worse. So basically everything they had before is gone now, it's been reset not so much resurrected, if I remember right. The only thing that seems to have stuck is the politics. And it's just a huge money sink in general that doesn't make sense to keep going unless they know they can't give everyone refunds if they cancel it.

The whole office working on LBY got shitcanned this morning.

To spare you having to read a games journalism site: the only thing these 24 now-ex employees were in charge of was LBY, so this won't (directly) effect any of Paradox's other titles. But it may be a grim portend of things to come.

It's an omen!
The End is Nigh!
The economy, fools!

Actually the Bourbons were more or less content with the country side being a veritable Tower of Babel, to quote a Deputy during the Revolution:
Bertrand Barère said:
The monarchy had reasons to resemble the Tower of Babel; in democracy, leaving the citizens to ignore the national language [that of Paris], unable to control the power, is betraying the motherland... For a free people, the tongue must be one and the same for everyone. [...] How much money have we not spent already for the translation of the laws of the first two national assemblies in the various dialects of France! As if it were our duty to maintain those barbaric jargons and those coarse lingos that can only serve fanatics and counter-revolutionaries now!
There even was a report written on "The Necessity and Means to Annihilate the Patois(The rural country languages)" Now of course a lot of this was due to the south heavily resisting the Revolutionary Govt which probably had more to do with the lack of a salt tax than anything else:

Today I am devastated to announce that for the second time in two years, my game has been cancelled, and I've been laid off. And this time it was a real shit show, ya'll. 💜

First and foremost, nothing expressed here represents the sentiments of Paradox Interactive or Paradox Tectonic. These are my thoughts and my thoughts alone.

I've known for some time that we might be getting shut down. We were actively working on a hyper-moddable life sim called Life By You. An indie answer to the aging IP that is the Sims but instead focussed heavily on UGC.

And as far as it goes, we were doing *extremely well.*

I cannot share specific numbers, but I can say that we had an internal metric we were aiming for that had been approved, and that we exceeded that number by a significant portion. We also got a thumbs up a few weeks before launch.

Then two weeks before launch we were told we wouldn't be launching. And just now that we've all lost our jobs. We were only informed of this via a public announcement.

We were not told why. Instead we spent a month in purgatory, and did everything we could to prove to them we were worth launching, including things like finding potential buyers or suggesting cutting ties and going indie. We heard virtually nothing back.

I was warned against writing anything about this experience. That it may hurt my future career or even that legal action could be taken against me. I have chosen to ignore these warnings.

To be honest, I have guesses about what happened. And while I can't conjecture, I'm sure you have guesses too. As a business owner, some of them are understandable, but many of them are not. We were a strong team on a strong project ready to launch to a strong audience.

Really I'd like to be much more fire and brimstone about it. I'm pretty pissed, not gonna lie. But I'm trying to stay kind and respectful. So instead I'll say: this industry has become a place in which you can deliver more than expected, have AA money behind you, and still have the rug pulled two weeks before launch.

At this time, I will not be looking for another full time job. Instead I will be uplifting all of you dear people and attempting to make this industry more sustainable for all with the Indie Game Academy and the #indierevolution

Everything you've seen of me so far is just 25% of my power level. Just wait until I go Super Saiyan. 🔥

That said I may be open to part time or advisement work for the right project. Hit me up. 📞

Support your fellows. Be kind to each other. See you in the revolution. 💜

He's delusional. Most game devs know if their game is in trouble. It's not fun, it's costing too much, it can't compete in the market, the studio heads aren't into it.

Now he's going to leave the industry when he barely made a contribution to it.

Did not mean to imply they did. Just meant that liberals inherited a powerful centralized state and used it.

French revolutionaries found an insane amount of pro-monarchist support in the countryside and in my opinion committed the first modern genocide in the conservative Vendee region. They then dedicated the next 200 years to destroying that support.

I was just making it clear to people who might not know that the Monarchy either didn't care or was too dysfunctional to bother with the patoises.

I'm glad this faggot quit the industry. It's fucking y'all. Y'ALL. Y-APOSTROPHE-ALL. I'm not even from the South and I know this.

Never mind it's the second time in two years his game has been cancelled, so I'm starting to think he might be the reason for it. I mean, honestly, he just goes on about how great everything was going and matches up to the kind of person that would type it out "ya'll". Every single one is some twitterati that can't help but feel they're too good for this world, an unrecognized genius. His entire screed reads just like it.

I hope he does a flip.

Figured I'd post this up for you guys in case you were wondering why Paradox is making EUV the way they are. Vicky 3 is about as dead as Starfield.
Victoria 3 is the first strategy game ever released where you can 100% the gameplay loop and know exactly what to do and what will happen within 2 minutes of boot up. It's like gamba, but with no screaming bells and whistles or dopamine hits to keep you locked in.

Speaking of Victoria 3, Sphere of Influence is dropping tomorrow. I think it's a testament to how utterly shit Vic 3 is, and how little anyone cares, that the first I've seen/heard of it was today when the shill sponsored videos dropped. meanwhile multiple creators are covering every single Tinto Talks and breaking shit down and getting people hyped for EU5.

that the first I've seen/heard of it was today when the shill sponsored videos dropped
To be quite honest the only reason I wasn't surprised to see Bo's video pop up in my feed was because I knew it was dropping on the same day as the CS2 Economy rework patch, which actually seems to have fixed a few fundamental gameplay issues. When it comes to the video all I can remember about it is that they were constantly having issues with the military system where naval invasions wouldn't move to their frontline fast enough which made them instantly lose the province they just took, Shillkoen takes another L.
