What are your expectations for the EU5 release?

I'm surprised they're still in business.
Paradox has always been and will always be a strategy publisher. Their ventures into other genres have produced more flops than not - the only big successes they've had were Cities Skylines and Mount and Blade. Even if they end up completely alienating the market for every genre they've tried to branch into, their strategy base will remain until a viable competitor emerges.

They're the only ones making high budget Grand Strategy games. If only there was a concurrent...
I mean until I saw EU5 I would've said Hooded Horse is surpassing them in quality and that Age of Wonders 4 is all they really have going for them.
Terra Invicta is Grand Strategy X-Com, but the focus is on solar system and planetary defense, and it's leagues above the vast majority of Paradox offerings lately.

EU5 is kind of a game changer though

Is Mingrelia one of the two kingdoms in the name Sakartvelo?
No? Sakartvelo, or საქართველო, is just the name of the whole of Georgia.

Historically the main principalities of Georgia were Imereti (west), Kartli (central), and Kakheti (east). The borders fluctuated over the ages but that's the main 3 divisions, though usually it's more of an East (Kartli + Kakheti), vs West (Imereti) divide. Mingreli is generally considered a part of Imereti, but that is not to say there is no variation between them. A Mingreli would probaly be insulted if you called him a Svani for example, even though Svaneti and Mingrelia are both in the west.

I thought it meant something like "The two crowns" or two kingdoms?

It's probably a derivation of the word Kartveli, which means Georgian. Ironically, for most of history the Georgians have existed in multiple nations simultaneously existing, rather then a single large nation.

The Patriarchy of Georgia is actually far older then any united Georgian state.

A true gem of a game, a roleplayer's paradise. Sadly, autists only want faggy competitive multiplayer, so this game is not as talked/played as it should be. It mogs Civ VII relentlessly.

Maybe this is a blessing in disguise.
Yeah it slaps. you could probably argue Shadow Magic is "better" but AOW4 is sufficiently different in its systems I feel no need to compare them

I looked it up and S + [place] + O is how you guys designate land a people live in, similar to how we do [place] + ia in the west (Andalucia = Andar lux ia = Walk in light land)

I have no idea where I got the idea the Kartvelians and Colchis had their own kingdoms?

Is there a decent non-combat gameplay component like Civ?

The systems are very interesting and robust but they all involve using different tomes of magic to do things like transform your units or fuck up your enemy

The different tomes interact dynamically and theres all these other factors that go into developing a unique faction, but despite the really cool systems at play, there's not really an "eco" game. The game is ultimately about destroying the enemy.

What do you niggas think of the idea (the hypothetical deeper HOI4 economy) of industry being split:
Heavy / Light / Electronic / Chemical / Shipbuilding

Idea: factories are fundamentally one of these, can't really be converted between them
Civilian consumer goods can be produced by any of them
A civilian's radio has more in common with a tank radio than either has in common with a tank or folding chair
But, you get diminishing returns for overproduction of a specific line of consumer goods (consumers mostly want huge amounts of Light Industry products)

Broadly speaking, in this era:
Heavy Industry = Industry for building more industry (construction/capital deepening), consumer automobiles, rolling stock, military vehicles of all types, artillery
Light Industry = Most consumer products, infantry kits and other logistical supplies,
Electronics = Mostly means radios, fire systems, stuff on airplanes, also a lot of infrastructure for the intelligence side of warfare
Chemistry = Synthetics, gas (not a feature but should be), munitions, agricultural efficiency w. fertilizer
Shipbuilding = Unique circumstances

Vast majority of most economies in HI/LI with the Germans and Americans having the only really impressive Electronics/Chemistry sectors.

I intend to read Arsenal of Democracy.

I don't know where you read that. The city of Gori, comes from the word gora, which is an outdated word for hill. The Battle of Didgori literally means the Battle of Big Hill. As another example, the name Tbilisi, derives from warm springs. I've never heard of prefix S, and suffix o designating a place. -eti is used a lot though. For example:
Somkheti = Armenia
Ruseti = Russia
Turketi = Turkey
Romaneti = Romania
Bulgareti = Bulgaria
Berdhzneti = Greece
Espaneti = Spain

Colchis and Iberia were earlier history, but they did exist certainly. Colchis in the west, Iberia in the east. Pompeius Magnus successfully campagined in Colchis, but had to settle for some tribute and treaties in Iberia, since the Iberians could simply move their goods and people into the mountains.

Ruseti = Russia
Turketi = Turkey
Romaneti = Romania
Bulgareti = Bulgaria
Berdhzneti = Greece
Espaneti = Spain
These do not follow the same naming conventions as far as I can tell?

S + place + O is called a circumfix in English, like a suffix or prefix

Shame on me for thinking that icon of Saint George was just for show.

An okay start, but I would like those to be categories that actual buildings are put in.

Heavy Industry = Steel Foundry, Mine, Tank Plant, Small Airplanes Plant
Light Industry = Clothes Factory, Machine Parts Factory, Small Arms Plant, Food Processing Plant
Electronics = Electronic Parts Factory, Radar Station (more ideas for this segment would be appreciated)
Chemistry = Ammunition Plant, Oil Extraction Field. Oil Refinery, Natural Gas Field
Shipbuilding = Drydock, Submarine Dock, Repair Facility, Naval Base

All of the above would also be using RGOs.

The only words I can recall that follow this convention are სამშობლო (samshoblo, or parentland - referring to Georgia) and სამოთხო (samotkho, or paradise- referring to Heaven).
Now that I think about it, Georgia and Heaven are placed at the same level linguistically, while everything else gets a generic prefix or a loan word. :story:

Funnily enough it's not saint George but Harold Godwinson.

My totally original donut steel plan to port the Vic2 economy system to hoi4 was weirdly like this.
