Path of Exile

The mechanic bloat by the time I quit three years was already insane. I cannot imagine how it is now. What I'll give for them to toss half of it into the trash and start over with a streamlined game. (They won't of course, too much money went into those gimmick supporter items that they'd probably get into legal trouble if they nixed any of it.)
The whole design philosophy is fucked by now. The best time i had in this game was from Prophecy to Harbinger league, ultra-broken builds, player power was somewhat easy to acquire and the new league mechanics were actually good. Starting with Abyss, the grind in leagues to finish 36/40 challenges started to get retarded and league item acquiring turned into a huge fucking grind, getting even worse in Incursion and then Delve. The big-time nerfs, with whole items and builds getting completly destroyed started somewhere around that time, too.

I quit early Delve and i have no idea what happened after that to GGG except the Tencent shenanigans but they seemed to have radically altered their game design philosophy since then and also completly misjudged again and again why and for what their playerbase like PoE. It's like the devs are activly working against the playerbase, and while they always made some baffling decisions back in the days now they seem commited to activly destroy their game. Player retention in Kalandra was catastrophic already and seems to be even worse this league. Really makes me wonder what the fuck is going on at GGG.

The sudden shift in balancing philosophy really soured my opinion towards GGG. It used to be that they didn't touch skills and you'd have a set meta for multiple leagues which I liked because it gave you time to try them. Then they turned balance into wack-a-mole where every league they beat down the popular builds from the previous league, they didn't even have to be op, some times they just fucked with popular skills. With every new skill or unique item that got introduced you would get new broken or op builds that everyone would rush to do before GGG ruined the fun. I would have liked to have tried some of these new builds but due to everyone trying to get in before the nerf, prices of the items needed would be astronomical.

As for Tencent owning their kiwi asses a little fun fact/rumor. Back right before the buyout Tencent publicly tried to get into contact with the one of the lead spergs at GGG over mtg, this particular sperg was pretty open about collecting mtg and was looking to have complete sets. Shortly after the buyout he showed of his now almost/totally complete collection of mtg cards (I think it even was complete in multiple languages). Don't know if its connected but it was funny thinking that Tencent bought a successful gaming company by bribing someone with collectible cards.

Necroing this Thread again because of the recent Reddit/Discord Drama Which is Kinda blowing up as i write it:
A User on Reddit makes a thread about Getting banned from TFT, a Discord channel dedicated to player crafting/trading items either in Bulk or high-end level. The motive was about not selling a busted endgame Jewel to the administrator of TFT (JeNebu) for 1 Mirror and then relisting it for 5 since, in his words, "intends to buy them to sell in standard because it's possible that the current league mechanic might not go into the core game" and that would drive prices up on the Jewels on Standard once the league is over. Keep in mind that
  • The OP of the Reddit thread never even interacted with the discord server to sell it.
  • TFT is one of the biggest discord servers dedicated to player trade besides the Trade tool GGG offers on its website
  • They've been accused of being power tripping and Ban-happy, RMTing faggots in Multiple occasions.
As of now the Reddit thread is locked.

Consequently; LocalIdentity, the main developer of Path of Building which is another external tool for theorycrafting builds, Responded to this thread By Mocking JeNebu for having 3386 Jewels with similar stats while selling them for 420 Mirrors. JeNubu responds to this by Banning LocalIdentity and Saying that those are "Showcase prices"

Just for the average Kiwi that stumbles upon this thread and doesn't know what a Mirror is: A Mirror of Kalandra lets you make an exact coppy of an item, it's an itemised duplication tool. due to this effect, is also one of the rarest and most expensive items that you can get in the game, there's literally people that have played for more than 10 thousand hours and never even seen one. TFT deals with multi-mirror level trades on the Daily and also Helps with other things like carry services for shitters and/or people that have the money for it.
And with that there's been a surge of people voicing their opinions about how they've been getting banned for talking shit about TFT in other communities or in social media, and other E-celebs voicing their opinions as well. As of now the TFT admins have been in Full damage control, Banning another streamer for talking shit about them. and being totally not mad about it.

Reddittards have such a hardon for hating TFT, it's hilarious. I go to check out both sides of the drama and it's just completely reasonable behavior happening to redditfags that deserve it.

This current drama can be boiled down to "reddit mad".

This shit is crazy:
The obvious criticisms are, "mobile game base building, gone in three months despite taking realtime to develop" etc but it's really impressive to put up as seasonal content, especially against D4 and Last Epoch. The amount of content these people put out, per man, against the other companies is insane. I's personally impressed with the smaller things, implementing the fog/wisp forest from a league or two back, tightening up two of the ascendancies + blight, and the small atlas mapping changes, along with being able to send NPCs into maps and having the base building pirates hold them hostage sometimes.

I haven't played in a few years, but it feels really hype to watch this and it's making me itch. Tinctures, melee buffs, asynchronous currency trading, seeing all this content, on a free patch, for a free game, is really interesting and makes me want to talk to other people about it. It's going to be such a big example/case study for how game dev should work, versus how it's actually done, for decades to come.

The lack of asynchronous currency trading was the main reason why I have been avoiding POE. Amazed they finally got a director who actually plays the game to fix this massive oversight after a whole decade.

Necroing this thread because it's criminal a game as good as Path of Exile doesn't have more discussion. I've never played a game where the devs manage to impress me every 3 months. Every league is good, which is surprising. Some are more forgettable than others, but they're all fun. It seems like the devs have accepted that clear speed meta is not going away and they're not completely destroying the top builds every league. Now they just shift what build is optimum for each league. This time around they revamped some of the older skills that just couldn't keep up with the new ones and redid traps. Also, the build-your-own-dungeon is a nice touch and the Temple of Atzoatl is really fun. Boss is a little easy compared to the difficulty of the dungeon in general, though.

So I haven't been playing as much, but my best friend plays a ton. Last league sucked, complete filler league, so this next one is gonna be a really good one. My greatest complaint used to be that there was so much to do, a billion mechanics and it was impossible to focus. The atlas passives have completely fixed that while amplifying the chaos if you choose. Now my biggest complaint is that the campaign is needlessly difficult, it's really fucking punishing at the beginning of the league now. If you have Tab+goldrim+wanderlust it's a breeze still, but it's really hard when you're scraping for res and running a 3 link at best. And since my last post, there's been like 3 different skill revamps, more shit is constantly added.

Slightly unrelated but PoE2 is a fucking meme, my buddy keeps talking about it like it's gonna come out. lol.

I haven't played in years but recently learned that PoE2 is gonna be a totally separate game which I am happy about since the first game has a ton of baggage and design choices which are better left behind.
To me the best change they have shown so far are skill gems slotting directly into your character. I have always liked the skill gem concept but the execution totally ruins it for me: the game demands you meet certain resistance thresholds at different points of the game so you will be going through gear a lot as you level up , if your gear doesn't have the right slots/links you have to stop and spend currency on it or just play with less support gems than you previously had (or keep a piece of crappy gear but with the right slots forever) then add the nonsense and resource sink thats getting 5 or 6 slots and links lategame. Gearing as always been my least favourite part in this game due to needing to account for so damn many variables (elemental resistances, defenses, mods, affixes, health/mana) on gear thats essentially discardable.

Wasn't PoE 2 supposed to come out this summer? I remember being pretty hyped when they showed off that not-Javazon with the not-Lightning Fury skill, i'd like to play that char. Can't get back to PoE 1, too burned out on it, even if the asynchronous trade is a big pull for me.

Edit: Fuck me, i shouldn't have watched the video. I am this close to reinstalling thanks to the asynchronous currency trading and how it works. Already hating league mechanics though, this building stuff just isn't for me, hate it in any game really.

The beta is coming at the end of the year while the full game is releasing next year but who knows if those dates will be pushed back.
Doesn't surprise me that the game is taking so much time to come out considering it went from "compatible with the original PoE but with new classes and campaign" to a totally new game, which I am thankful for since the original has been going on for over a decade and they need to try new ideas divorced from the mindset that their game should be just like Diablo 2 and that more modern features are "casual shit". Seriously, the mercenary and auto crossbow making the game into more of an isometric shooter makes me wanna play.

Unsure what position Chris holds now but sure as fuck is not anywhere near designing the game since now there is an auction house of sorts, which the absolute retards at the fanbase bitched and moaned against the idea FOR YEARS
"AN AUCTION HOUSE IS BAAAAD since diablo 3 had a real money auction house and that means all auction housed of all games involve real money!!!"
Then on the other side you had Chris Wilson justifying trading being primitive due to him valuing player interactions, with said interactions amounting to pasting an autogenerated message then exchanging no more than 3 words.

Yeah, always one of his hottest takes. Should've worked on de-cluttering the visuals instead to incentivize party play, i can almost count on one hand on how often i played in a party in all the years i was active due to the immense visual clutter, a problem even when playing solo. Then i watched a video of a full party running juiced maps, seeing the drops and realized i played the game wrong for most of the time i spent with it. Decided against reinstalling while thinking about this, just no sense in it, i am done with the game. Still kinda sorta hyped for 2.

Just started playing this game today, and I pretty much had very little idea what was going on. Thankfully I came across a fellow that carried me to part 2 at least, and yes before anyone says it. I am aware there should be a reset soon. I just thought I'd try the game out now. Guess I'll have to be looking at guides and what not if I really want to get into the game.

Edit : It should be possible to make a private game with a password right? If so, who would be interested in making and joining such a game for the new league this week?

Shoot. I might not be able to get in as soon as the launch starts because I thought the game would automatically be patched.

Anyway, I plan to play on the Texas or DC server as a Witch/Necromancer. Probably will go with the name WickedWildWitchcraft or something like that.

Also to be sure. Once I downloaded the patch I put that where exactly in the folder? In the Steam=> Steamapps => Common=>PathOfExile folder?

Most people think boat league will be the last before POE2 comes out. Be interesting to see what they do with the original version once that happens.

Scratch part of what I said. It does automatically update. Let me know if you guys want to form a party. I promise not to be too greedy with drops. I'll farm later.
