They wouldn't. There was a separate subpoena for those earlier, but it failed because of the lack of any real justification for it. However, Pat is going to have to disclose where the money came from, which might provide that basis. I think it's a red herring at the moment, though.

Hold on a fucking moment: Lead suspect in the murder and attempted murder!? Oh boy, Benson, I hope you have some offscreen evidence to pull out of your ass because there is literally nothing in the case we've seen that connects this random police officer to the murder. Because otherwise I'd think you'd be in big trouble with this government conspiracy for falsely accusing and imprisoning an official. This story has failed to offer any evidence other than 'Someone with power is altering documents' and 'The victim has an important nice painting that isn't even apart of the stolen paintings being investigated'.

Can we go one chapter without mentioning fucking Zero?

Benson acts indignant, like this was some new and shocking information for him when everything we've been told about the worldbuilding points to cleaning up and controlling the narrative to be pretty much expected from a government that is allowed to literally cast aside any privacy and constantly monitor your own brain.

In the normal world, I would agree that you'd probably need more than the word of a criminal to be allowed to bust down the doors of a government official for a non-violent crime, but we've already been shown people being able to violate a crime scene for less.

1) Ever since the Heist occurred, Devorah Feynman has had detection algorithms snooping the Neuralink Implant network that EVERY SINGLE LIVING HUMAN is wired into, to pick up on any stolen artwork. This is how she was introduced when Benson was investigating Laraby's apartment and stumbled upon the Monet. As soon as he glanced at it and thought about the fucking thing, she stormed into his God damned brain like a one-woman Spanish inquisition to get answers.

I'll be fair to the book here: They explicitly stated in the last chapter, by Sal, that those connected to the heist somehow managed to remove some of the stolen pieces from the database or some shit that made them undetectable to Devorah's algorithm (yet somehow some of them still got caught by Devorah's algorithm, so I don't know how that fucking works), I could believe that Feng's father managed this and left enough plausible deniability that Feng could claim he didn't know the paintings were stolen.

But- Fuck- How- So he really didn't have any fucking evidence! Benson just blatantly admitted he was about to arrest try someone for involvement in a murder simply on the basis of 'Well, he had the ability to do it.'. Unless Feng is the only person capable of fucking about with the ship's security systems or database, which we already know isn't true because Benson never suspected the guy until realizing he had the stolen paintings (WHICH STILL HAVE NO BLOODY CONNECTION TO THE CASE SO WHY WOULD THAT RAISE SUSPISION!?), this makes as much sense as accusing someone of murder simply because they could hold the murder weapon.

And, of course, this powerful government conspiracy will be utterly unable to get in Benson's way after committing yet another blatantly illegal or at least incompetent act that would bring his job into question.

The need to keep things calm so close to the flip gives them basically free reign to cover up any illegal actions or threaten their officers, but this government conspiracy still couldn't find a way to stop Bensen from getting this case in the first place.

completely missed this one. this is just a stacking of contrivance to me. everything in this setting is absolute until it isn't and the reason for it not being absolute comes without any foreshadowing. it's certainly frustrating.

There is so much idiocy in the entire thing, so a few points for now:
You can see Pat's seething increase as he puts down all the wrongs done against him. He just can't stop himself from commentary about how badly he has been victimised.
He claims that no lawyer would take his case for a 'reasonable' fee. Strongly suggests he asked lawyers but he thought their fees were too high for what he thinks is a slam dunk case they'll definitely win, and possibly even that he did, in fact, ask them to do it pro bono for the publicity.
This is what he wanted with the previous court appearance. Get all his 'evidence' and show it to a judge and everyone will have to take his side. Who cares that he's clearly included a large number of lies - they're the bad guys, if they didn't steal his SS and take out 'fraudulent loans' (which, yes, definitely a tell to Pat's other strategy to not paying), it's the sort of thing they'd do!
In the last page he says 'pray'. Man of Pig is undoubtedly a smug atheist; it's a tiny thing, but feels indicative of the lack of honesty of the whole thing.
Which - he's claiming he and Niki have CPTSD. Of course he does. All his troon crushes have CPTSD, now he gets to LARP it as well.

I wonder if those loans have been taken out and the money spent on holidays. I wonder about the counselling Niki is allegedly receiving and if it's a way to blame her regular psych appointments, that she should be having if she's on the meds Pat claims she is, on OnA. I wonder how many people are in on the discussions Pat is clearly having with Jackie - is it just the two of them, or are others from the League of Halfwits party to it as well? I wonder how many of these accusations Pat will repeat outside a legal document. I wonder what lawyer helped him with this, or if that's another lie.

The only thing funnier about how little of his little legal tantrum is true, is how all of it is irrelevant posturing for a case he, rightfully, lost.
