I can understand wanting to go back and do things differently, but to not ever want to grow up? Ralph doesn't realize that he is a cog in the very machine that he says he doesn't want to be apart of. All by design, and that is why he will never climb out of the hole he finds himself in.

Quite the catch 22. Need to stream to pay the bill, need the bill paid to have electricity to stream.

What do you mean change providers? Power companies are usually government condoned monopolies or just state run.

Have no idea what shithole country you live in, but here you can chose the company you buy electricity from. Company maintaining the grid in your area might be different, but cancelling my power from current provider is mouse click away as I have open contract. And deal with another company is just another mouse click.

Where I live in the US, sure the contract is open. There’s just no other companies operating in the area.

They could just buy the electrons from open market and sell them to anyone. Grid companies take their cut sure. You can have a generator. You can get solar panels. There’s no law against another company trying to sell in my market, it’s just not economically feasible because they wouldn’t have a contract with the power plants.

I think essentially what has happened is venture capital funded entities went around buying up contracts and consolidating them.

I’d care a lot more if my power wasn’t ridiculously cheap. I pay like $50/month

I live in the USA and we only have 1 power company state wide. You can change "providers" on paper but the reality is there is only 1 set of wires. Your just deciding which middleman gets a cut of your bill. Some take a bigger cut then others. Some give up front discounts. Some let you ride the market rate etc... Most people don't bother doing this and just stick to the power company as their provider. It is the most consistent and you don't have to constantly watch the market rates.

Anyways back on topic. Ralph lives in Mexico. There is 1 power company. His meters are right on the street for easy access. I imagine Mexico doesn't run on (((credit))) like the USA does so it is more of a pay as you go type system. I am sure they gave him plenty of warning, he just ignored it thinking its like the USA where they let you get months in to debt and then rape you with interest and late fees as you just pay the minimum every month.

There is no way a person is "surprised" by suddenly lights going out. Other utility providers also send out txts and automatic phone calls, like ISPs.

Fun fact, in most states in the U.S., if your electricity is about to be shut off because of non-payment, even the most abjectly bogus complaint to the proper agency will stop them from doing it until they go through the proper procedures to adjudicate your ridiculous complaint that was obviously filed just to delay the shutoff.

While I wouldn't be surprised if Mexico doesn't have these kinds of easily abusable consumer protections, I also wouldn't be surprised if they do but Ralph was too stupid to know about them.
