Ralph is the architect of his own destruction and I don't think anything could have saved him due to his retarded brain, but there are various inflection points where things could have gone differently.

What if he never swung on that lady cop? He and nora could have continued building the killstream, instead of her holding down the fort by herself (this would still have ended the same unless we also go "what if ralph didn't have a taste for fat black hookers")

What if Knoxville had never happened, and the gunt pic never appeared? I remember the shit he got for that being relentless, and he didn't handle it well. Prior to that, he'd gotten a lot of credit for "slimming down" in jail.

What if Dick had never convinced him to facecam? I always felt like dick was a huge secret alog, and getting ralph's gross piggy face out front and center nightly did him no favors. If he never hooked up with Dick, there would have been no child bride, no rad roberts, no demon baby. Likely no Meigh arc either, since Dick was the connection to digibro too.

I could go on, but that's more than I really want to type about Ralph already. He really has made the worst decisions at every turn.
 
“How would a fat retard’s life change if he managed to stop being a fat retard” is an exercise in futility really. If Ralph never got KEELSTREAM WORLDWIDE FAMOUS then he’d just be Cog but in America. I’d argue that him becoming that large, due in no part of his own doing, was the most damaging thing that ever happened to him. He’s a loser and he’s just returning to what would’ve been his baseline where he’d always end up being.only thing different is he got a modicum of fame and because of that absolutely created a hell of his own making with that.
