The sheer amount of work involved in acting out this one seems like it would be a dealbreaker for Gen Z. But I guess an addict is an addict, whether it's dope or dopamine, and an addict will go to extremes to get their fix.
I've seen some of these people join Discord Servers and enter the name of all their headmates in introduction pages. It's always tempting to say "pills" or "take your meds".

I used the bot to create a notifications bot to warn of severe weather/road conditions/etc in this one server and then I got like 20 angry replies from "alters" saying I shouldn't use pluralkit unless I'm actually plural.

I was scrolling Twitter trying to find out what happened to a podcast for another thread and (possibly related) the troon from it decided he had DID and later dipped off Twitter because "knowing how many watchers he had that weren't following brought up old trauma".

It's crazy how much damage has already been done. You say "the actual number of diagnosed cases of DID is really, really low". But according to the NIH it apparently effects 1.5% of the global population. To put that into perspective this article by the NIH estimates 0.39% of Americans are transexual. Less people are either faking transexuality or are afflicted by the related mental illnesses than pretend to have DID.
A few dozen years ago there were what? 10-100 cases globally of DID in a century? Now it's supposedly 1.5% of the population. Pick your poison. Either we're fucked or we're fucked.
