The 1.5 percent prevalence rate stat actually comes from one study in a very small American population and can’t really be generalized to mean it’s that common or not.

I’m not sure there will ever be an accurate estimate. I think the DID diagnosis will be recycled to label BPD types who have fallen so deep into identity exploration/confusion that they’ve latched onto “systems”, are in some no man’s land of consciously faking but with somatic “DID symptoms”, who might actually engage with therapy if the therapist plays along with letting them personify and roleplay out all their issues as separate alters. But what’s the final treatment stage for someone who “needs” their alters to hold all the parts of themselves they don’t want to be responsible for or accept, versus a genuine, non psychosomatic dissociative disorder?

And people who experience PTSD with severe dissociative symptoms will hopefully be able to quietly get help, but a DID label probably won’t help those people much now, versus treating the PTSD and dissociation.

I've been seeing more and more of these freaks on the internet lately, especially the "therian" variety that always seem to have random pokemon as their otherkin type and want that pokemon's name as their pronouns, like WTF? Anyway they come up a lot in tech circles for some reason because apparently it's normal to out yourself as a deranged degenerate there these days rather than admit you're a little bit autistic. It's simply beyond me how these people are still able to perform basic creative and programming tasks when they're this mentally deranged.

Was anyone here aware that the core team for Ircluzar's Real-Time Corruptor (of Vinesauce fame) includes one under the name of Sola (mistsofnowh3r3 AKA noisyrejects)? I'm surprised it hasn't been mentioned over in that thread. The RTC discord is honestly a real piece of work, too, but talking about that would be more fit for the Vinesauce thread.

It bothers me greatly seeing people put up with and enable (through "No-Bigotry" rules) their antics, are people on the tech side of the internet just this utterly buck-broken by all the craziness in the world these days that they just bend down and take it up the ass when the therian+furry coomer+plural+transgender hybrid walks in and starts inviting all of their like-minded friends into these spaces to throw bitchfits at normal people for not playing their mind games?

I used the bot to create a notifications bot to warn of severe weather/road conditions/etc in this one server and then I got like 20 angry replies from "alters" saying I shouldn't use pluralkit unless I'm actually plural.

These guys are like terminally online cultural appropriation niggers

I saw a server for an interesting looking indie game still in development which had a reasonable enough developer only for him to, in a fit of poor judgement, have his co-developer be one of these plural freaks. Who would then implement pluralkit and added a strict rule:
"Pluralkit in particular is only to be used as a tool for plural server members. Abuse of this will not be tolerated."
Again I can't help but repeat myself on how dumbfounded I am on how people just let them have their way with them like this. The co-developer doesn't even seem to actually do anything besides make hellish noise that gets used as a sound channel for the main dev's song compositions, does he really need him? He could do that by himself.

Pluralkit wouldn’t even help someone who actually had dissociative symptoms in line with what DID was supposed to be. The main treatment for DID is treating the underlying trauma and PTSD, combined with education that you are not multiple personalities, you are one person having extreme dissociative episodes in response to severe PTSD triggers.

The people who flock to things like pluralkit and simply plural are the BPD type who know they are faking but because of their personality disorder might convince themselves they have psychosomatic symptoms. They’re the type who focus on their “system”, who fight the idea that their alters are just them in a dissociative state, who use “splitting new alters” as weapons when friends piss them off, and who center their identity in “I am a DID system.”

This would make someone with a real dissociative disorder a lot worse. Yet these people are thriving in their little communities.

I don’t think anyone on discord is for real, especially when pluralkit comes into it. Assigning every dissociative symptom a name and trying to define and separate things further is something that only a roleplayer could do. Someone genuinely traumatized and dealing with severe dissociative symptoms would not thrive at all in that environment.
