I am not saying this was a Grade-A bloke. But people in their prime are not the ones who are going to suffer the most in a long extended lockdown. It is the marginal people who are going to crack.

If England hadn't had various forms of lockdowns for 18 months shutting down their economy and jobs, I doubt this guy would have done what he did.

The lockdowns probably played a part but even without the lockdowns there's the serious, growing, pervasive lack of community that preceeded them. The same lack of community that's also contributed to the rise in gang violence.

I think the person you're responding to has some points when you take this offline.

I heard a psychologist on his podcast say recently that it's not culturally appropriate or acceptable for a man to ever ask a woman out on a date if they're not in a bar or on a dating app. Those are the only two scenarios in which you can show your interest in a woman without oppressing her. He used the example of a cashier you get along with great at the grocery store by saying that she probably has that same connection with everyone, and if you ask her out it'll just make you a creepy guy who she's forced to be around.

I imagine a lot in of people would say that's not true, but I honestly think that's how it is now. If you refuse to use dating apps and refuse to try to meet alcoholic women, it's very tough to find someone to date.

I do hope and think this will get better for society. More meetups and coed hobby groups will help ease things eventually.
