Supposedly the buildings were fully modelled in the beta build (but were taken out due to performance issues).
Hypothetical:
Mr. John Gamefreak himself comes up to you during development of Legends: ZA and needs your input.
He tells you that the game can either 1.) have competently-modeled architecture and terrain that makes it look like an actual place, but the framerate is going to chug at times, or 2.) it can run smoothly on every platform, even down to the Switch Lite, but the world is going to look like a flat, empty Garry's Mod map.

Which direction would you tell them to go in?

Ideally? A good looking game with a smooth, even locked framerate. I'm not a games designer, but working within your limits seems like the best way to go.

So to answer your question: 1.

The only thing that keeps me playing ZA is the battle system. It's far better than any previous battle mechanics. Other than that, its a visually bankrupt series that you'd think a small studio did, not a billion dollar company that only spends a million dollars on development...

And people say Jews are greedy....Japs will literally do anything to not spend money and maximize profits.

If true that it's only the initial cutscene, it makes the poor performance look even worse.

Supposedly the buildings were fully modelled in the beta build (but were taken out due to performance issues). It's hard to pinpoint how much is GameFreak's fault and how much is the OG Switch holding things back.

Don't blame the Switch, it's just Game Freak being retarded and making the entire map one model that is loaded at all times.
The truth is, Game Freak are absolutely incompetent, it was just easier to hide when the games were in 2D.

Even then, Gold and Silver were basically saved by Iwata, who fixed their spaghetti code for them and basically reduced the file size of the game so much they could add an entire new region for the post-game.

Know what makes this one even more embarrassing? The compressor tool Iwata used was written in 1989, meaning a game made a decade later needed a tool meant to save on ROM space back before most devs learned code optimizations on their own, since, well, it was an entire fucking decade’s time between the two. I swear to god the 68k ruined an entire generation of programmers, people forget Game Freak started out as Mega Drive fixated otaku making a zine and if you know old school game dev it says a lot.

This is untrue, Iwata’s work actually increased the amount of storage used by the code base. What it did was increase the decompression on battle sprites which previously had a noticeable load time due to being color.

There’s still a lot of bad programing, but none of it was responsible for the state of the 2bd gen post game.

Oh I'm not caping for GF, even on GBA and DS their games were behind the curve visually compared to others in the genre. I think what I'm hung up on is how much of their incompetence is soley theirs and how much is due to The Pokemon Company's strict deadlines.

We'll never know either way, but its an interesting topic and one that only gets more complex with each passing generation.

Well it look like I can add the “filling your Mega Evolution Pokédex” task to the “fuck off” list, the last one needed to complete it is Mega Floette and to get that one you need complete the Infinite Z-A Royale 15 times.
Just started this myself and one positive thing is I got one battle card in the fight zone that netted me 25k points. I wanna say it was like for 10 fire type surprise attacks.

Ohmori says in one of Game Freak's leaked internal documents that they consider themselves very independent and can tell TPC to go fuck themselves whenever they want, which can even lead to problems getting funding from TPC for mainline games. There's nothing to suggest Game Freak is at the mercy of any sort of deadlines put on them by TPC, they put out the game whenever they want to and TPC has to plan around that.

I would've assumed the anime was what caused the rushed nature of the newer gens. Now they definitely don't have that excuse, so yeah I guess GF gonna GF.

In the TCG before Gen 4, the Zubat evolutions are Grass types. Bug 'mons are also Grass type. So as Calvin has claimed, bats are bugs?

Grass used to be a super type for bug and poison early on. In gen 4 they moved poison into psychic, which became a super type for psychic, ghost and poison. In gen 8 poison got pushed into dark type and fairy was removed and placed into psychic.

Caught wind of this disaster and expected to see posts just shitting on the game, but a lot of you actually fucking bought it.
Why?
Nigger, you bought Diablo 4 unironically. You and your 1400+ hours in Oblivion have no ground here.

It took a 3rd game to patch this out, and it was the one where you can't evolve your pikachu.
Yellow not only still had glitch Pokemon, but it had it's very own set of glitch Pokemon, they each had their own properties independent of their RBG counterparts. It took until Gen 2 to finally put glitch Pokemon to pasture with Unknown(yes, that is why there are so many, each one takes a spot of a glitch Pokemon from Gen 1 that one of the new Pokemon doesn't). Then again, we went back to having hundreds of debug Pokemon with Gen 4("shiny bulbasaurs") and beyond, but they are very much useless, generic Pokemon not worth talking about and each entry is copy-pasted meaning no unique glitch Pokemon.

idk I had problems with pokemon glitching out of existence in Gen 2
did anyone else have that? I learned how to do the mew trick, clone them in G2, and then gave those to my friends, and sometimes they would just disappear.
There is only two glitch Pokemon that I know of in Gen 2, it's a generic ----- and an Egg, neither is supposed to be found normally in the game without some very obscure exploits or glitches. If you cloned them, that might be the problem, you got bad clones.
