Pretty bad all around not a single base stat over 100, and its stat total is only very slightly higher than Porygon, who later got not just an evolution but later an evolution for its evolution. It's only main gimmck is to run Sniper as its ability and use Focus Energy + Drill Run for passable damage

Seeing as every Mega(Except Alakazam due to an error I don't feel like going into detail about) has 100 added to its base stat total, and Beedrill's stat total is very small, instead of slighty raising all of its stats, Gamefreak decided to cannibalize it's Special Attack that no-one ever used and split the resulting 130 points into only Attack and Speed. Combined with its shiny new ability multiplying the damage of it's Bug and Poison moves by 1.5, it's the definition of a glass cannon, and is quite amazing considering the base Pokemon.

I can actually answer this. Sylveon was part of the split evolution, so if you don't like it but want to make your Eevee good, there's 7 other evolutions to choose from. People reacted negatively to many of the new evolutions added in 4th gen, so I think they introduced Megas so that people's favorites aren't "ruined forever" and if Mega evolutions get negative feedback they can be easily retconned by the next gen unlike real evolutions(unless you really want to screw up backwards compatibility). So I think from now on most new evolutions will be split evolutions like Eevee instead of a higher form of the previous highest level. Additionally they can give 3-stage evolutions a boost without breaking the maximum 3 stage rule that's been around since Red and Green.

I'm pumped about the new mega evolutions and everything else. The only thing I'm not too happy about is the lack of trainer customization, but, considering these are remakes of games without customization, I can understand. I'm in grad school, so I can't typically afford to buy any games, but I'm going to make an exception for this.

: 3 I got my code today. You get gifts for playing the demo multiple times, the first gift you get is a Glalie with a megastone. I haven't played it enough to tell you what all the gifts are, but so far they seem to be things like extra pokeballs and so forth.

I got my demo code via email this morning. I just downloaded it and played through the first part. So far, I like what I see, stylistic menu choices aside. The graphics look much nicer than X and Y, and, even with mono sound on the 2DS, the sound quality seems higher. As can be imagined, it was a breeze to play though, but it's certainly a nice preview so far. I plan on playing all the way through so that I can get all of the extra poke balls and heart scales for next month.

Downloaded my demo after work. I've done two runs so far. Interestingly, first run at the Demo resulted in a Jolly Marshtomp, but it was reverted to Docile for the second onward, as those before me had reported. I just wish they didn't replace Protect with Hydro Cannon TBH.

Otherwise, looking forward to ORAS, and those heart scales will help with getting stuff like Bullet Punch Scizor immediately. And honestly, I look to Mega Beedrill, and I've got to praise Gamefreak on this one. Not only turning it into something usable, but emphasizing the good stuff and outright cannibalizing the most useless stat (SpA) in favor of what we actually want (Attack and Speed).

If only you could Mega Evolve in Pokemon Amie.... I'd pet the shit outta Mega Audino.
