Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Late to the "favorite type" discussion, but I've always been really into Normal, Dark, Water and Dragon types. In general I think these are just some of the types that stay the most consistent with their design quality over the years. In particular, I've always loved the Slowpoke family, Azumarill, Murkrow, Ursaring and so on. Retroactively I guess fairy fits in there since they stuffed my man Clefable in there.

And in terms of the nerfs across the board? Including the Dex and move limits? Good. The only things I really miss are Slowbro, Azu, and pursuit. Imo hidden power lost its luster after gen 3 when the physical/special split made it special only, since it created an interesting limitation in terms of what types you wanted to use in what mons. Seeing heatran and Landorus-T every game was getting boring. It was getting even more boring when Landos starting running Hp Ice... To beat other Landos.
 
That phenomenon is nothing new really. Every new generation temporarily "resets" movelists like that until tutors/transfers come about, and even to this day there's still combinations that are (legally) impossible, like Unaware Clefable with Soft-Boiled.

But thanks to Movexit things could potentially be far more dire than usual if they aren't added back in at some point. Like, if you're a mono-Electric type who relied on Hidden Power for any semblance of coverage (aka most mono-Electrics) you are fucked. Jolteon is arguably on par with Flareon now due to this. Can't even fall back to Signal Beam either since that was also deleted from the game wholesale.

Unown is what makes this whole thing interesting if Sinnoh remakes happen, considering they have just as much of a presence there as they do in Johto. Either Hidden Power is reinstated and hopefully revamped, or it finally gets an actual moveset (though knowing GF they'd probably just slap Psychic on it and call it a day).
 
Think these are the same people who used to claim on the playground "Digimon's a Pokemon ripoff", but now they're crawling over to "give it a shot, I need my monster fix"?

As much as I would like for there to be more Digimon fans, I'm just tempted to say to these refugees "Fuck off, we're full".
It's the same as the TemTems people from a few pages back. They're not there because of straight-up interest, they're trying to 'spite' game freak.
 
I know Aegislash was nerfed, but Aegislash was awful.
that hurt me. I know Aegislash is (or was) a bit of a cancer in the competitive meta, but I'm in the group of people that likes it because he has a cool design and concept.
Dark Void can now only be used by Darkrai and had its accuracy nuked down to 50%.
That one was a shock to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm with them nerfing the accuracy (it was annoying as shit to deal with one in online battles), but why 50%? Why not 90% like thunder wave or having the accuracy be 75-85%? At least in that case the move will still have some viability. At this point, it's no better than using hypnosis. In fact, it's more viable to have Darkrai use hypnosis.
Paralysis halves Speed instead of quartering it.
That's considered a nerf? Are you sure?

Dark Void was 80% accuracy before Gen 7, so they nerfed it to be even worse than before. All they had to do was make it so only Darkrai can use it, because the problem was SMEARGLE being able to use it, when Darkrai is always banned. In the end they did both nerfs, which was overkill.
 
I decided to start SwSh after putting off for so long and it is honestly...not that bad? Despite the obvious glaring flaws like the terrible graphical pop in, dexit, and Hop being annoying it is ok. I like how gyms are stadiums and make you pumped up for battles. Camp is an ok distraction and I had fun with the wild area and raids for a bit. It was nice having a diverse team early on instead of being stuck with boring early game Pokemon.

That said it is so frustrating how unpolished the game is. There are specks of brilliance amongst all that wasted potential. A lot of the towns are gorgeous from a glance until you look harder and see all the flaws.

The linearity is excessive as well. Personally linearity doesn’t bother me too much but at least give us something to explore outside the wild area. Though to be fair Pokemon’s caves and dungeons are shit tier compared to other games so I am not sure how much of an improvement that would be. It was nice having out of the way areas to explore in the older games but most of them were poorly designed and repetitive. Pushing boulders, sliding on ice, and spinning on floor tiles don’t make for good design.

How is that not a nerf? The speed drop was absolutely crippling before, but now if you're at +2 Speed it's at least nullified, similar to Swords Dancing with a burn. Though if they truly wanted to nerf it they should've halved the chance of wasting your turn like they did with confusion since that's what people really hate about it.

Hey, I like Aegislash too. I had him in my story team in X, and he has a super badass shiny. But his mechanics is where he went from 'cool and fun' to 'brokefuck'.

Like I said, heart went into this game. A lot of people clearly gave quite a few fucks. But a heart alone isn't enough, if time and money don't back it up.

The former is an obvious immovable wall because of all the extra bullshit that has to tie in to every release so they can never pull a (much needed) delay card, but the fact that they refuse to increase staff numbers despite the ever increasing development crunch is just frustrating to see.

Every other dev company of a similar AAA level not only has at least double the staff, but multiple teams dedicated to both specific sectors and to different installments at a time to keep things running smoothly. Game Freak is not only lacking in sheer numbers but, perhaps more obviously, people with experience in more modern specs and programming skills.

But there's a glimmer of hope as it seems they are looking for more staff. Hopefully they do some restructuring and get more people on board more versed in HD tech to help right the tilted ship that GF has become.

I did enjoy Sword over X/Y, ORAS and SUMO. I played a bit of Ultra and felt burnt out on Pokemon. I skipped Let's Go, since that seemed to split the fanbase.

X/Y felt rather unfinished. There was some unexplored area in one section and the whole Zygard BS seemed to be thrown in and then tossed in Gen 7 at the last moment where you had to collect the green things.

ORAS was.. okay.

Gen 7's Plaza was annoying and kind of confusing. I did like how Moon's time was reversed over Sun. Which why I liked Moon more.

While I love Sword/Shield, some of the Pokemon such as Galar Meowth, Indeedee, and Milcery and its several takes on Alcream's forms. I love the raids and camping. I do think they could of did more with it. I hear more there was some crunch time on this game for it to be rushed for the holidays.

In a positive note as I said, ShSw did restore my faith in Pokemon. My friend and I do raid battles and helped each other fill out dexes. This is gonna be my first game where I do get the full dex filled.
 
I'm working on my Gen 3 Living Dex right now so I can get the Johto starters instantly on Emerald once I can connect it to Pokémon Box (you need to beat the game and have a Dex of 100 caught). Yes, I'm playing Emerald 3 times for them but I'm collecting for my HG Dex too so the next run is for that and then I'll have all three. I've played Gen 3 to death and I'm very bored of it now but I want the starters more than I want to stop playing.
I'm thinking of attempting the Pomeg Corruption glitch to get Mew, Celebi and Deoxys but that might be a bit risky.

These two right here. I'm glad digimon didn't become as popular as pokemon is because they've kinda done their own thing and made some cool designs for 'mons and apart from people who're part of the SJW crowd who like digimon it's been a fairly chill fanbase for the most part. I dread what's going to happen if people start hate-joining from pokemon it'll ruin everything and I don't particularly want people gatekeeping one of the last franchises I don't feel completely jaded about.

I don't get why people hate gatekeeping. Whenever you let bad people into groups, communities and fandoms, it brings down that group or give the once peaceful atmosphere an unlikable state. This then affects people that was in before and outsiders will treat them like the louder and worse members.

Just look at the comics industry for a large-scale example. If salty Pokémon fans go to Digimon, tell them to be nice or go to TemTem.

At least for American viewers, I believe it peaked in May of 2001, because that was when the second season ended. Tamers aired not long afterwards in September, but because it didn't star the original cast (and also Tai didn't end up with Sora, hoo boy), a lot of kids lost interest, and Yu-Gi-Oh! would come out weeks later and took in that audience. Which is funny because Tamers is usually like number one or two in terms of the best Digimon season, but it being "different" was what killed interest for a lot of kids. Then Disney bought the IP (I want to say mid-season? It had a channel jump, least for me) and Frontier wasn't as widely-watched as Tamers, and that was the trend.

So while it's still pretty big in Japan (with a new movie on the way because the merchandise sells well), and the games sell fine, Digimon has never been as big and popular as Pokemon in the West. That's why a sudden influx of new "fans" as a result of Pokefags jumping ship over SwSh makes me leery.

I vaguely remember Digimon being somewhat popular. I was in the fourth grade and I remember a girl on Valentine's Day 2002 had Digimon valentines.
Of course right after that Yu-Gi-Oh came and swept everything away. Then Pokemon came back.

Several years later Naruto and Bleach would take over.

I've always been a fan of Steel type, though Ghost, Rock, Dragon, Flying, and Fire are still up there. Steel is a great defensive type even after the change in interaction with Ghost and Dark Type. While not every Steel-type design in a winner, a lot of Steel type Pokemon have top notch designs. Aggron, Scizor, and Bisharp are my personal favorites in the type.

I'm no fan of dexit, but a fresh meta is always a good thing. I remember the Gen VI meta being dominated by Talonflame because the Gale Wings/Brave Bird/Roost combo was superior to almost every other offensive flying type. Pair that with STAB Fire type coverage and Talonflame was bound to be on everybody's team. I never liked the Gen V genies and hated dealing with Lando in online matches. While personally I like Heatran, I've always felt a bit odd bringing any legendary aside from the Legendary Birds and Beasts into a competition. Atricuno/Zapdos/Moltres and Entei/Raikou/Suicune all have considerable weaknesses and their combined stats totals aren't game breaking. The most cancerous thing I've done with legendaries was my doubles strategy of Ragepowder Tangela/Follow Me Clefable paired with my Sheer Cold/Mind Reader Articuno, but I liked saving that for shitpost battles with my brother.
