Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I actually just hatched my shiny Bagon last night (egg #888 to be exact) and got a male (I was really hoping for a female but I won't get picky) who's Lonely with 3 perfect IVs (two of which are in Attack and Speed so I am contented with that)

So far the shiny Poke'mon I've gotten from Omega Ruby are Tentacool, Zigzagoon (Wild Catches) Bagon (bred) Gallade, Skarmory (Wonder Trade)

Not sure which shiny I'll hunt for next; I've managed to get a few I've wanted absolutely randomly through wild encounters, Wonder Trading, and just pure dumb luck (I once bred two Froakies from the WT just so I could have one to nickname; first egg was a shiny). I'm thinking maybe Fennekin because I've got a breeding pair and shiny Fennekin isn't too shabby looking.

hey look at that i'm a squirtle!
How are you liking the game so far? Really the first games are kind of absolute shit compared to the rest of the games, so if you find yourself thinking "why is this such a phenomenon" I won't blame you haha

It's pretty fun so far, though there is a lot of grinding to get the pokemon's level up and backtracking to the Pokemon Center every other fight.

Anybody here have a legit event Meloeletta? I've been trying to find someone that has one to trade me one on my Y game. I have some good shinies I'll be willing to trade.

Finally bothered to count up my Gen VI shinies. Between Y and Alpha Sapphire, I have twenty-three. The funny thing is, though, that I haven't actually tried to get any of them; it was mostly luck. I received ten via Wonder Trade, seven from the GTS, and one from an online event. As for the others, I caught two and hatched three (all were Masuda method, although I was breeding for IVs for the most part at the time).

I started for this about 5 months ago, and it was pretty slow work, just because I had to play through all of White 2 to even unlock the possibility of getting this transferred to Pokemon Bank so that I can use it in the newer games, and that's not counting the hundreds of pokemon I had to catch in Diamond.

It was all worth it, though... :D

Today I started playing my copy of Omega Ruby that I had left neglected since I bought it. (Horrible, I know!) Honestly ever since I found competitive Pokémon battling and simulators, I haven't played on cartridge games that often. I always feel like my Pokémon aren't up to par because they don't have the right IVs and natures or some shit, and I'm too lazy to breed them legitimately.

I haven't done competitive battling since X and Y came out though. I was never that good at it lol, I was ladder trash, but it was really fun while it lasted. Hopefully I can get into the games again. I named myself Connor.

If we're still doing the favorite Pokémon thing, Torterra was my first main game starter, and he holds a special place in my heart even though he is pretty much absolute garbage competitive-wise. Wood Hammer still hits hard although that's not impressive anymore because you have to have at least an Attack of like 135 to be relevant now. Also he pulled off the tough guy metal spikes thing without going overboard with it, and little Pokémon nest in his tree. Isn't that adorable!?

I can die happy

Are those for winning at the Battle Maison? If so, that's awesome! I'm trying to become successful at the Maison; I don't do a lot of competitive battling so I usually don't get too far, haha.

"Competitive battling" knowledge isn't as important here as just knowledge of Pokémon in general, as well as the AI (who will always use moves that will guarantee them OHKOs - and they run damage calcs so they know how much damage something will do to your Pokémon - and if they have none, use boosting or support moves until they can guarantee the OHKO). That's why this list is absolutely amazing (in conjunction with this; which Trainer you're facing tells you which movesets the Pokémon you're facing know) - my triples streak (which is the one I just finished) would definitely have died well before the Chatelaine if I hadn't checked the sets before every single battle. (My reasoning is that I was using Lightningrod Manectite Manectric and Gyarados as two leads; I'd Mega Evolve most of the time, but if the enemy had an Electric attack, I had to keep Manectric unevolved to protect Gyarados. And I don't think anyone necessarily expects stuff like Probopass, Lickilicky, and Granbull to carry Electric attacks.) They're probably the best resources for the Maison.

... though if you want to cheese it as much as possible, run Scrappy Mega-Kangaskhan with Power-Up Punch/Fake Out, Return/Double Edge, Crunch/Sucker Punch, and Earthquake, with something in back to take on status users and Fighting-types (King's Shield/Swords Dance/Shadow Sneak/Sacred Sword Aegislash is a common sight, as is Dragon Dance Multiscale Dragonite), and watch heads roll. Not only can Power-Up Punch allow you to get a free Attack boost (that can be doubled if you Mega-Evolve, which you should always do unless facing a Ghost type that needs to be hit with Scrappy), but Parental Bond means you can laugh in the face of Sturdy and Focus Sash, which are probably the most annoying Pokémon for anything in Singles to face. Mega Kangaskhan is arguably the single best Singles Pokémon for the Maison, and Aegislash and Dragonite are also excellent and support MegaKhan excellently. (I've heard people sing the praises of Protean Greninja for singles as well, citing it as being a better Starmie, but I only ever used Greninja as a Mat Block lead in Doubles so idk its singles worth.)

@Altissimo Wow, thank you so much for the fantastic advice! I will definitely get a Mega Kangaskhan to help me out.

Also, this may be a stupid question, but how does checking the Pokemon/stats of other Trainers help you when you're already about to battle them?

The decisions you make in battle can be changed depending on what Pokémon the other Trainer carries. For instance, say you have Mega Kangaskhan out, and a Mienshao comes onto the battlefield. Three of the Mienshao sets have significant investment in Speed, and one doesn't. The ones that do have Speed investment all outspeed even the fastest MegaKhan you can use, but the one that doesn't is outsped by max speed MegaKhan. If you don't check the sets - which in turn can be checked if you know which Trainer you're facing - you won't know which Mienshao you're up against until you actually attack. If it's the slower Mienshao, you can kill it with Parental Bond Return before it has a chance to do anything to you. But if you're up against one of the faster Mienshao, you won't outspeed it, and if you thought "hey, it might outspeed me, maybe I should use Sucker Punch" - Sucker Punch won't kill it, which means it has a chance to High Jump Kick you into oblivion. If you know it's a faster Mienshao ahead of time, though, then you can switch out to something that doesn't get killed by HJK to take the High Jump Kick (and if it's a Ghost-type you switch to, the failed HJK takes Mienshao down to half HP) and kill it while preserving MegaKhan's health.

I made it to 100 wins in Singles in the space of a day with Dragonite, Aegislash, and MegaKhan. I wrote about the team some here, and I'll probably write some more details tomorrow morning.

I started playing again in the past few days. I managed to breed a Torchic with perfect IVs, which is better than what I was hoping for. I still need at least one more with the same nature and perfect IVs in everything but special attack, then I'm going to switch the Destiny Knot and Everstone on the breeding pair and try for the same with a Jolly nature. I've probably hatched a few hundred Torchic on and off over the past year. After I finish these, I think I'll go ahead and start breeding either Shroomish, Tentacool (a project that's been going on longer than the Torchic), Togepi, Growlithe, Gligar, Mareep, Ralts (the other long-term project, although I've had the breeding pair I need since last summer), Slowpoke, Weedle, or Pidgey.
