Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Game Freak:

"Hmm, maybe we shouldn't give Koko and Bulu Play Rough after all. Also should probably not give all of them the new terrain moves, that'd be too broken."

Also Game Freak:

"Hey let's fuse two legendaries except not really because it's literally just putting one atop the other and calling it a day, but let's make it more busted than mega Rayquaza anyway. Let's see, give it two abilities (Unnerve and a Special version of Moxie), 165 Sp. Attack, 150 Speed, a 120 BP STAB move with 100% accuracy and no drawbacks, allow it to hold any item it wants, and fuck it allow it to Dynamax too!"
Bow before the king of bountiful salt, salty. It's retribution for everyone saying it looked dumb.

I came across this after I saw a screenshot of some of the new regional forms and I wanted to see what kind of busted shit they gave them. I am floored by this thing. Never have I so easily and without regret dropped a series once so beloved to me. Christ on a cross.

Being pretty dramatic there, huh? It's not strong design wise, yeah, but there are worse things to drop the series over.

Let's talking about the Dynamax Adventures. They were a big selling point of the DLC because you could get fancy legendaries from old gens. There were a lot of questions, but now that the DLC is out we know more. First, the good.

1) Legendaries have a 100% catch rate. So, for people who want to shove their mewtwo in a Safari or beast ball, rejoice! Just have to beat it and you're set.
2) Anything you catch can be shiny, and this is the first time you can get some shiny legends without events or hacking. The Gen 7 Tapus are now available, as are Necrozma, Zygarde and the Cosmog evos.
3) The shiny rate is much, much higher than normal. It's 1/300 normally, 1/100 if you have the Shiny charm.

That's the good stuff. Here's the bad:

1) The adventures are punishingly difficult, and mostly because of RNG. You have two ways to play. Option one is solo with AI companions, or online with randos or friends. Both are bad for different reasons. The AI loves to use status moves, hates to attack, and makes baffling choices sometimes. Randos online aren't any better usually.
2) You have to get through 4 encounters total, 3 plus the legendary. You have 4 KOs before you're out. Not per battle mind you, total. This means that if you end up having NPC's butterfree dying 3 times in the first fight, you might not even make it to the legendary. On top of that, there's no way to "get back" any of the KOs. Damage and status affects persist, so if you're poisoned at the end of battle you may as well swap out your pokemon. There's berries that can heal, but they're not guaranteed.
3) Swapping pokemon is neat in theory, but it's a double edged sword. You can swap whenever you catch a pokemon, but only one person can do it. There's some sort of order and math that determines who gets to swap if there's multiple people who do. If you're not online, usually this means some idiot keeps swapping out his pokemon each round.
4) The paths show you only ONE type of the upcoming battle. So you have a bunch of water types and you choose a Fire branch. Welp, turns out you're up against a Fire/Electric type and he just wipes out your team. Whoops.
5) The rentals you get are too weak. Seriously, one Max move is usually enough to wipe out some of the mons you can use. Nothing you can do about it, that's it, you're down a life already.
6) It's a huge slog to go through. The battles themselves are so slow, and the fact you have to beat 4 of them stinks. You can only keep one of the pokemon you catch which is usually fine. Who goes into this for a butterfree when you can just find it in a den? Still, if you find multiple shinies, you're screwed.

All in all, I hate them. It stinks, because I wanted to like them.

I didn't get Sword or Shield and I'm not planning on buying any games anytime soon, this thing is just the opposite of buyers remorse. I didn't drop the series over The Brain riding a My Little Pony.

No shiny Tyrunt but because I hate myself I switched to shiny hunting the regi's. Starting with registeel. 305 resets and so far nothing lol. I have the shiny charm so hopefully it goes semi-quick?

Caught a random YT stream in my feed earlier and the guy was 500+ on Regidrago. I've only tried shiny hunting like once in my life and I had to tap out after 30 or so Scorbunny eggs, I can't imagine the amount of discipline you need to make it as far as that guy did.

I've only managed to get a few shiny legendaries and I lost the shiny mewtwo in let's go because he absolutely wrecked my fucking victreebel (strongest) but I've bred so many shinies. holy shit, it takes forever but it's fun to do if you're bored and have youtube on for some background noise. I dont really have the patience for breeding now tho, I like surprise trading after but I get too much shit, want to keep and start hoarding.

RNG abuse is alive and well in older gens. Gen 7 is great with USUM and the wormholes. If you're good at it you can get every legendary shiny and with good stats.

With the odds being so high, quite a few people have gotten more than one shiny at a time in the Dynamax Adventures. Of course, you can only choose one, so if you do get more than one you'll have to leave the others behind. Like getting double shinies in a horde or SOS.

You also forgot to mention in the cons that, while previously-shiny locked Legendary Pokemon can now be Shiny in-game, they aren't revealed to be Shiny unless you catch 'em and view their status on the post-battle Pokemon selection screen.

EDIT: And it turns out that bit about caught Pokemon not showing up as Shiny in Dynamax Adventures until after one is complete applies to ALL Pokémon. I caught a Drizzle Pelipper to help with a possible Fire-type Legendary and it appeared as a normal one until I reached the selection screen.

While it is annoying, there is a very good reason why it works that way. It's so people don't disconnect in multiplayer mode just because the legendary Pokemon isn't shiny. While the game itself doesn't say that they won't appear as shiny until after you catch them, most people that go out of their ways to find shiny Pokemon would probably be old or smart enough to easily find this out from the internet.
