Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

I don't know how much longer the eShop will last on the 3DS, so I forked over money to purchase the Gold, Silver and Crystal versions off the Virtual Console onto my brother's 3DS (trying to get my own so I can stop mooching off his). On top of nostalgia reasons, I've never played Crystal version as-is, SoulSilver was my first experience with Crystal, but I've always still wanted to play its original version ever since coming across the news about it online as a kid. I only just barely started it yesterday, but it's kinda weird to have Kris as a playable character. It's a strange statement to make, but she kinda sticks out like a sore thumb, and it wasn't something I noticed until I got to see her in person.

I dunno, maybe it's just me.

Wasn't Crystal version the first Pokemon game to feature a playable female character? If so, I remember her having blue hair that stuck out when you played as her.

When you actually look up Kris' hair it's way more wild than I remember:

Those things go forwards and upwards.

Yeah, not only was her overworld sprite blue instead of red(even her Lapras and Pikachu surfing sprites), her Pokegear interface was also blue instead of red as well, Blue was probably chosen not only because it was the bluish Crystal version that introduced her(In Japan Crystal was the first Pokemon game to have a colored cart, the Gen I games used the standard OG Gray carts and Gold/Silver used the GB/GBC hybrid Black carts), but also as a stark contrast to the red the original male protagonist used for everything, to make the choice of gender stand out a lot more.

Been screwing around in ranked battles for the first time ever in Shield, currently at a 50/50 win % at 24 battles with a Regigigas meme team.
Not too bad for not having played competitive since gen 4 IMO, though it is still low ladder so obviously these aren't the cream of the crop players.

I built the entire team around getting Gigas to sweep or at least ass blast most of the other team, so it's been really cool to experiment with different mechanics to manipulate his ability.
Audino is proving to be uncharacteristically reliable.

Why single out girafarig, of all Pokemon? It actually has a fairly neat idea as it's concept - it's a living palindrome.
I would have preferred if they kept the beta look of it rather than give it that stupid ball with a happy face for a tail

Also instead of Normal/Psychic (Final) or Normal/Dark (Beta) they could have just cut out Normal entirely and made it Psychic/Dark. Not that I have an issue with Normal type in general (it's my 2nd favorite type), but it's stats suck for a type that has no resistances and only 1 immunity.

Least they could do is bring it back via an evolution or by making it possible to breed it from Girafarig as an alternate form when Girafarig holds a special item, like a dark crystal or something.

Hell, even if it is a gimmick, a Gigantamax form of Girafarig with two massively tall giraffe heads would be cool IMO.
At this point, even hoping for a gigantamax or mega evo seems unlikely. Personally I would like the base design a lot more if both heads had long necks and sort of intertwined. Kind of hard to picture it though without looking messy.

I've decided to try my hand at a Nuzlocke, although it'll probably be a test run of sorts until I get my own 3DS (so I wouldn't care if my brother overwrote this file after I give it back), but I wanna document it anyway. I'm doing it on the Silver version since that's the one I've played the shit out of even after the battery drained, and outside of being forced to just catch a single Pokémon in every new area/route, doesn't feel much different from how I usually play. I wasn't confident in myself to make more personalized rules, though, so it's just the basic level atm (although is it "cheating" if I enter a new route but the first encounter was a Pokémon I already have? I honestly don't want duplicates mainly to avoid that temptation of "replacing" a fallen comrade with a "replica", but I thus far haven't caught the second Pokémon I've encountered over a duplicate).

To help me remember this is supposed to be a Nuzlocke run, I've named the rival "Locke" lol but posting it here should help me remember it, too.

I am curious, though: Do cave levels count as new areas? Like Dark Cave has four entrances to four different areas you can come across throughout the game. If you catch a Pokémon in the south side of Dark Cave, does that mean you cannot catch any more Pokémon from Dark Cave even if you just reached Blackthorn City for the first time? Same goes for Union Cave, the deeper level of the cave isn't available to you until you get Surf, but if you've already caught a Pokémon in the upper level, you cannot catch any more (think the Lapras doesn't count either if you don't use Repels?), right? I just want to make sure even though I've caught a Magikarp upon first entering Union Cave.

So thus far at Azalea, this is my team; I had a Rattata (Nicky) in the party, but I don't see myself using him much, and also I want to hatch Togepi for the PokéDex so had to make room (won't be using Togepi). I also don't see myself using Gastly after a while due to not being able to trade:

Chikorita (Lyce)
Hoothoot (Owlicia) *runs away laughing*
Gastly (Gaston)
Jigglypuff (Hilary)
Magikarp (Maggie)

Jigglypuff was one I've actually wanted for this Nuzlocke, I literally squee'd when she popped up, so got lucky with that 5% encounter rate. Didn't realize it's actually a pain to raise at first, though, due to having only Sing and maybe Defense Curl (caught her at level 5). Magikarp was always worse, though. So slow to raise.

Do cave levels count as new areas?
As a general rule in Nuzlockes, the rule is a catch a single pokemon for each uniquely named area: for example, you can't catch Lapras until you get into the deeper parts of Union Cave, but if you've already got a pokemon in there, you can never get Lapras. Similarly, Dark Cave is all one area as well, and any routes with disjointed entrances. Most gift pokemon are encountered in areas where other pokemon other catchable (I believe the only one that is in Johto is the Tyrogue you can get in Mt Mortar from the Karate King), but those are generally an exception to the one mon per route rule. Also remember, Lake of Rage is its own area, use a repel before you approach Gyarados to get a guaranteed level 30 pokemon with gold stars.

If you're doing a basic ruled Nuzlocke just overgrind and overlevel to win.

Otherwise, might be better off adding more restrictions such as do not overlevel the gym leader's maximum levelled Pokemon and/or do not use items in battles to make the challenge actually challenging imo.
