Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

About that, this is why it's considered the "Spiteful fox" pokemon:

Yeah, looks like Basculegion has some competition in the "dark, yet sad" backstory department.
And to add to that…

They aren't going to redesign their outfits at all? That's a shame, Team Galactic of all of them would really suit the rounder Pokemon art style and the zanier costume elements.
It's a shame they're so fixated on making them "faithful remakes".
Them showing the Platinum outfits but no hints of Platinum content was a real kick in the dick. *sigh*

We're never going to see the Distortion World in a 3D plane. (:_( (Reverse World in the 11th movie kinda counts, but I wanna see the game's version of it like that.)

Well they have already added a feature such as that underground cave were you can catch munchlax.
Yeah, but there's no sign of Looker, a "Distortion World episode", or the improved Battle Frontier. :(

I'll give them another 17 years, TPC is unapologetic with their nostalgia bait.

There's stories of kids not knowing a lick of English playing Pokémon Red/Blue all the way to the end. This parent is a lunatic to think Pokémon's not a child-friendly game.
A fish completed red and sapphire by random chance, Pokemon is probably one of the most user friendly game series of all.

I was honestly considering getting Diamond again but with the release of SMT V the week before and them not including Platinum content is lame.

Id put money on an expansion pass with plat content. Also the art style is so weird...like AlphaSaph/OmegaRuby are on 3ds and dont have a weird chibi look

For a long time people complained the newer Pokemon were too complex and looked like Digimon, and now they say newer ones are too simple. Older gen fans can’t make up their minds.
I say they want a balance: they do not want 'MY DONUT STEEL EDGY OC' disasters, bu they do not want 'pocke toys', either.

Then again, did not people find Toucannon boring due to Toucannon being essentially a toucan... despite plenty of older Pokémon being 'just an imal'?

Either way, this thread mentioned a couple of videos talking about older designs already:

I just want to be able to catch them all in a single game. If that means cutting the roster down to ~250 or expanding the scope of the games, I don't care what they go with. Sword and Shield were pretty basic games, they should have added all the Pokemon and moves.

The fuck was that shit where some moves were not available? I turn off the animations anyway to speed the slow-ass combat up. You mean to tell me that those moves couldn't have been included with limited animations? As if the ones we did get weren't lazy as fuck anyway. Why does my Mew fire an energy beam the same way as my Gyarados?

Anyway...

I found this tweet amongst the twitter thread and do people not realize that art styles change over time, and that an artist working for over 25 years isn’t going to draw the exact same way they did all those years ago? Also his old art style that everyone spergs over being amazing was mostly the norm for anime artists back then. Also art style change according to what is popular at the time, back in the 90’s everything was sharp and edgy, now everything is softer and cuter because that was what everyone likes now. At least in Japan.

And speaking of I wonder if that backlash towards cuter rounder designs is mostly a Western fan thing. It isn’t even new, I remember that interview where Game Freak was trying to pitch Pokemon to the West and they were told the designs were too cute and pitched Western designs like Pikachu being a tiger with breasts.

Yep lol. The fish’s position in a tank determined the inputs.
I'm really sceptical that this would actually happen even in thousands of hours. The essentially random button presses would make it almost impossible to make progress.

Someone in the Polygon comment section says that "there’s a ton of exceptions to keep the fish on their goals instead of just letting them roam free" implying that the guy that set up this "experiment" was manipulating it to ensure that the game would be beat, basically rendering the results worthless. It's like yeah, I can get my dog to beat Pokemon (if I manipulate his paws onto the right buttons).

Never forget.
I'm guessing she deleted this series of tweets, because when I enter that pic.twitter ID it redirects me to the status, then says it doesn't exist. Anyway, is the chart she's talking about the type chart?

Because while I admit the type chart is frustrating, and I constantly forget it in older games, you don't need to know it in later games. The modern games tell you if your moves are or are not effective against your opponent once you've seen the Pokemon at least once, meaning even if all the types were obscured for some reason, you'd be able to make it through with just a little extra effort. I'm not sure what other chart she'd be referring to.

Also "a real Pokemon game is as deep a game design as Final Fantasy or Fallout" lol

Removing moves was about balance, not animations. Return/Frustration, Hidden Power, and Pursuit were key competitive moves that honestly were annoying as all get out. Return was OP with 102 base power with no downside, Hidden Power provided way too much coverage for special attackers, and the lack of Pursuit trapping has allowed a few Psychic types to thrive because they can't get Pursuit trapped any more.

Not to say I agree with removing every removed move. They removed Ominous Wind and Silver Wind but not Ancient Power. Signal Beam provided great coverage for Psychic types without being OP. Magnitude was a much needed early-mid game Ground move. Sky Uppercut had no reason to be removed. Most removals were for redundant or useless moves though. Bubble and Water Gun were essentially identical so Bubble got the axe. Bone Club was a signature move of Cubone, but Bonemerang was just better.

These move probably aren't gone forever. Kinesis actually got the removed move description in SS 1.0 but got re-added in Isle of Armor for some reason. I also am predicting right now that Hidden Power will return in BDSP, but only as Unown's signature move and not a TM. If it doesn't Unown needs a new move.

The removal of Hidden Power specifically was a massive boon to so many Pokemon. It definitely hurt some mons usability, but the fact that in the last few generations they've been really good with coverage moves through tutors really helps make up for that fact. Some mons are made for a niche and having access to an attack of any type of their choosing is a massive monkey wrench.

Removing Pokemon from the game I think was a dumb design decision for SwSh, but cutting the bloat from the move pool was not entirely a bad choice. Though things like removing Heal Order from Vespiquen for example is stupid. Was she really that broken of a Pokemon?
