Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

What about Pokémon Sage?
I did not play either; I am just curious.
Sage is actually pretty good but it's got Perfectionist syndrome and that shit's never getting finished
I think it's like 5 gyms into production after over a decade of work, and said work has been passed on to a retarded cabal of discord users since the originals left(? not 100% sure but this is what I remember about it)
the last demo came out 6 years ago

it's got a really good dex (for a fan game) though, check it out

I liked it enough that I made myself a theoretical team a few years ago lol

it would suck dick in battle, but I like it anyways

Something something Kitakami news tomorrow. I like how Serebii immediately assumes this means a new Pokémon will be revealed considering how the last few Presents went. Almost 100% certain that it's just going to elaborate on the plot (which is an adaptation of an existing Japanese folk tale judging from the promotion) and the Ogerpon/Tera Mask stuff. Might also reveal some minor shit but probably nothing more.

There's currently no scheduled time or anything (Serebii is pulling the times listed here out of his ass, the tweet says nothing on the matter) so I'm assuming it'll be at the usual 6/9/11am schedule they use for Presents.

EDIT: There are Khu-derived rumors floating around that it's related to Sinistea, mainly due to Merrick receiving a tea kit with August 22nd on it eleven days prior to this + Khu retweeting the announcement and repeatedly bringing up tea + other beverages. It's made me slightly more open to the idea that this is the reveal of a new Regional Variant/Fake/Evolution/WhateverTheFuck, but I still think it'll mainly focus on Kitakami's plot with the new thing playing a minor role due to the fact that the official account has mentioned jack shit about any new mon reveal nor tea nor anything more than "a tale about a mon from Kitakami". It doesn't clarify which mon, so that could be counted as a hint towards a new mon being revealed, but considering how in-your-face the myth the whole region revolves around has been advertised (as well as that myth involving 4 mon we already know about), I doubt it'll be the focus.

Didn't Sage get cancelled a while ago?
Okay, I tried to look around for a source on this and I'm lost. Unless their discord announced it years ago or some shit it's still in active development. Besides, if it was cancelled then /vp/ would be gloating about it for weeks, not dead silent on the matter like it has been for years now.

iirc those discord users working on Sage were also infighting over politics and Trump shit, which hindered them from working more on the game. That and /vp/ wanting Fairy types, which the people working on Sage refuse to add because it'd fuck up the game balance and they didn't want to re-type some mons in the current dex haphazardly.

I remember that, I'm just wondering if that ever led to an official cancellation.

man, I should've kept my mouth shut

why are they making such a big deal out of this? it's just another grass/ghost, like we need anymore
but the entire Pokemon.com homepage is covered in matcha (reminder that the site hasn't changed one bit since BW released), the twitter logo is partially covered in matcha
maybe they thought it'd be really popular or something? That, or it's another bafflingly overproduced marketing tactic...
I appreciated the short, it clearly had effort put into it and I actually like the origin tale quite a bit
But seriously, why?

1692710527727.png

Here's the design, btw
It's another one of those "one single specimen's origin story counts for an entire species" sort of mon, which I'm really not a fan of (see also: Cubone, most Legendaries, Banette)
especially if this ends up being an evolution and not an RFake or Convergent or whatever they want to call the shitty recolors (but it has too much effort put into it to be one of those, so I don't think it'll happen, which is strange since we already know it's not a regional variant)
Anyways, I didn't like Polteageist much and I don't like this any more than that although it's admittedly better than the other "new "evolutions"" they showed off in that Presents because of how fucking low the bar is.
The hands were the worst part of Polteageist yet one of the only characteristics they chose to keep for Poltchageist, the eyes look like Sinistea's except crying mascara for some reason, and I don't understand why it needs a massive tumor for a forehead other than to remind people that this is actually a Pokémon instead of a matcha jar with eyes.

Seriously, though. Why does it need to be Grass/Ghost. Why do they keep making Grass/Ghosts and Grass/Darks. Stop this madness, I beg of you.

EDIT: Official reveal video is out now and

HAHAHA THAT MODEL IS SO FUCKING BAD :story:

Man it never ceases to amaze me how bad the 3D models are
Anyways
Wii-tier texturing aside

Apparently this thing always holds a stirring stick (with two fingers), but uses it like a sword
1692715315864.png
very human-like mannerisms, blegh
That's all the video shows, btw, half of it is just ads for other stuff
The best part of it is the music, which actually isn't bad. A bit generic, but I like how it's infinitely more peaceful than any other music in SV's soundtrack so far.

Here's its key artwork; it doesn't look entirely traced (if only for the terrible hand on the left), so it makes me think that they left all the hand-drawn artwork for the DLC mon (if so, scummy)
and again it seems to be a weirdly big deal- it's the only newly-revealed DLC mon with its key artwork actually available as a .png ahead of time...

It's a Convergent mon. It's not an evolution or anything.
1692715567390.png

And, of course, the obligatory "broken unique ability"... is actually not super broken and only works in Doubles.

I really don't understand why GF does this. Doubles are nonexistent in the basegame and almost nobody actually plays competitive. Those who do definitely won't be using what's probably a pre-evolution.

It's because they need to balance around VGC. A format which is exclusively Doubles. Even though Double Battles barely exist ingame, which just makes VGC way too hard for the average normie/kiddy to get into.

they need to balance around VGC.
Bullshit, there is absolutely no requirement. I know they're trying to do it anyways, but past gens got on perfectly fine without this stuff even before VGC became "big" (something like 1/10th the size of Smogon). There has never been and never will be a need to constantly keep power creeping, constantly keep adding new attacks and abilities that just amount to "this old attack but more powerful and objectively better"...

...there wasn't before the gimmick shit, anyways. After gen 7 decided to give people literal nuke buttons instead of even a modicum of thought like the singular gimmick beforehand required (Mawile, Kangaskhan, and Rayquaza notwithstanding) everything kind of spiraled out of control... but then again, with abilities like Water Bubble, Disguise, Queenly Majesty and Dancer, I guess the series' fate was already sealed then and there.

(It even has the redundant new abilities that are identical to existing ones (just with new names)! Power of Alchemy and Receiver are identical, as are Queenly Majesty and Dazzling, as is Full Metal Body and Clear Body, Innards Out and Aftermath...)

You know for a game that is around the concept of friendship, it would have made a lot of sense to have the game built around an optional buddy system. Optional Double battles for the elite four would at least be something different.

Both gimmicks are unga-bunga press the button to make mah Pokeman supa powerful braindead mechanics. Let's be real. Alongside dynamax/gigantamax, I may add.
Terastalization is the only semi-decent battle gimmick modern Pokemon has introduced, imo.

Tera could've been the best if it hadn't gone full retard
the_problem_with_tera.png

Megas at least had to have some thought put into when they were activated, whether the one you were using fit your team, how a different typing/ability could affect your strategy, etc. Gigantamax has none of this because it has that contemplation mixed in with the "unga bunga hit for 400 damage" shit that Z-Moves introduced (alongside abilities and typing being unaffected, removing even more thought), and Tera isn't much better due to the aforementioned mega-boost to any STAB whatsoever. When putting that into a generation with unprecedented power creep where normal moves are nearing the effects of some of the weakest Z-Moves, it's only barely better than the nuke-move shit.

Also the hats absolutely suck compared to almost every single Mega we got. A fair amount of Megas are in my top 10 because they're so fucking cool/such awesome expansions of the base mon's concept- meanwhile the hats look out of place and unwieldy on every single mon that uses the gimmick.

It doesn't help that they nowadays feel the need to give every single Pokemon something, be it a gimmick, signature move or ability, to make them stand out. The amount of overpowered moves, abilities with extremely specific effects and bizarre form changes and evolution methods is getting out of hand.

It's hard to see because of all the glowing, but Koraidon's Tera hat clips through its feathers during the final boss battle

Yeah, that's what I was deriding earlier. I didn't notice it until gen 8- I thought just Water Bubble and Water Compaction were problems because I heard complaints about them all the time- but even a single generation of this shit is enough to severely worsen power creep and we have now gone through 1/3 of the series with this "every mon needs a gimmick" mindset. It's absolutely toxic to a franchise's longevity, and in a series like this- where its reputation is already at rock bottom and only getting worse- it really doesn't help anything.
