Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

Barring some framerate issues (which aren't bad for me while docked) I can't understand all the bitching the game is receiving. I think it's a ton of fun and kind of cements the idea that Arcaeus was nothing more than a beta for their open world concept. The ability to have a very diverse team right out the gate was very nice.

Biggest issues for my specific autism:

I want the X/Y trading system back, every system since has been a disappointment. I don't want to have to talk to people IRL or online to be able to make a non wonder/surprise trade. How am I supposed to get all the vivillions?

And I want a fucking skirt.
I've seen like a hundred articles about how the character customization let's "all" genders wear all the clothes but there are only four outfits and they all have mandatory pants or ugly mailman shorts. I get that it's a uniform but at least let us get a cuter pair of shorts or a skort for the girls. I don't care if they let dudes wear it too I just hope (hopelessly) that they will add something cuter.

Gameplay has been fine, the open world looks pretty good and auto battle is neat. The new pokemon are ugly except the green kitten who I am not letting evolve lol so he is worthless. The robot dragon motorcycle is def someone's fetish but I try to block that out because it is a mildly useful transportation device.

They also fucked up shinies but that will hopefully get patched.

finding gen 4 and 5 peak is boomer tier? I'll take it. Just wanna grill and play good pokemans
I don't care about which gens you think are peak (ONLY gen 5 was peak. Gen 4 was too rough to be considered peak imo). There's still fun to be had with modern Pokemon. It's just held back Game freak's apparent lack of technical prowess.

I don't understand how people can be so forgiving of how ass these games run on the Switch. Like you're fucking brainwashed.
If the games were actual indie titles it'll get meme'd and shat on forever but since this is a billion dollar franchise™ people will eat shit and thank the corpo for it.
From watching some streams on this game the graphics look mediocre and bugged, the pokemons are meh tier and the character designs go between "ESG score" inspired to actually decent. GF is so lucky to have such loyal consoomers and nintendo.

As long as the gameplay is fun, some people are willing to look past the horrible performance issues.
I get that, but for me the issues lie more what kind of precedent this sets for Game Freak in the coming years. Why is it okay for Pokemon to release yearly, unpolished games akin to FIFA titles? If this were any other Nintendo franchise like Mario then I'm pretty damn sure a whole lot more people would be willing to blast games of the quality that S/V are.

Not seeing any reason to bother with this one unless the glitches are worth the price of entry. Especially not when romhacks will take everything cool from it in a year and put them into a game that's faster, better looking, lets me play set mode, and doesn't do this stupid open-world shit only to just to balance the game linearly anyway.
I wish I could say it's incredible how little Gamefreak took away from the prior game (arceus), but it's just a series standard at this point, and so is each one selling even better than the last one. I already had no hopes for a quality B/W remake, now I'm just scared to see how they manage to make something even fucking uglier than S/V.

As someone who enjoyed SWSH, I think I can explain.

The average Pokemon fan has never really given a shit about most of the criticism lobbied at the newer games.

The graphics are bad? I grew up with Gen 1. They've looked much worse.

The story is shit? That's nothing new. Gen 5's the only mainline game with a good one.

Rivals are bad? Outside of Gary, Silver, N, and I guess Hau, when haven't they been that?

Dexit happened? Boohoo, who cares? There's like over a thousand Pokemon. This was bound to happen eventually, and I'm not autistically obsessed over this one specific Pokemon that I caught over fifteen years ago to give a shit. Besides, I like using new Pokemon for the new games, anyway.

It's too easy? Bitch, I would've killed for an EXP Share like this when I was a kid because grinding for hours is tedious, boring, and annoying. Also, Pokemon's never been hard. It's just had a fucked-up level curve, broken mechanics, and unbalanced typing for most of its life.

It's too kid-friendly? 1) No shit, it's a fucking children's game, and 2) This isn't even true because the Dex entries get more, and more unsettling with every new gen, among other things.

It relies too heavily on gimmicks? Where have you been? This has been a thing since Gen fucking 3. Technically, Gen fucking 2 if you really think about it.

The new Pokemon are ugly/uninspired? Look me in the eye, and tell me that the Grimer, Geodude, Voltorb lines aren't that, too.

It's poorly programmed, and glitchy af? Gen 1 here again. Lemme tell you about Ghost, and Psychic-types in R/B/Y, as well as the Badge Boost glitch, Missingno, and the absolute clusterfuck that are the Celadon slots machines.

Pandering to Gen 1? Literally the only complaint I 100% agree with. This is dumb, and other Gens need more love. They need to stop whoring it out.

Etc, etc.

I think the issue is that people were exaggerating how bad new Pokemon games were that people stopped taking them seriously, and that a lot of the complaints felt like they were coming from spoiled, man-children who were upset about either trivial things like the series being too kid-friendly, or honestly reasonable things that we all saw coming like the Dexit.

Look, I'll admit that I have a very low standard for Pokemon games. So long as I can catch Pokemon, battle other trainers with them, train them, and trade them, I'm fine. I would like for them to more than that, but they really don't have to be for me to enjoy myself. I don't care if this makes me a braindead consoomer, or whatever. It's the truth.

Having said that, I think the pace of which Pokemon games have been coming out is fucking horrific, and that they are getting more, and more broken as time goes on. I like SWSH, but it does have issues (most notably lag), and the state BDSP were released in is inexcusable, and even more so with S/V.

Furthermore, I fully agree that Game Freak has no excuse. Saying they have more than enough money, power, and other shit to hire other people to work on games, and take a break in the meantime is the biggest understatement ever. For the life of me, I can't think of why they don't do this. If I had to guess, I think something must be happening behind the scenes to actively force them not to, because nothing else makes any sense? Greed? This is bestselling franchise of all time. I doubt it's that.

I would actually really like to know why this is happening, and I think once Game Freak finally does implode, I think we're gonna find out. I don't think S/V's gonna be the one that does them in, though. As buggy as Gen 9 is, it's at least fun, and (mostly) functional.

However, that last part isn't really saying much considering how it's even more broken than the last few games despite being made on the same console by the exact same people. I have a feeling Gen 10 is gonna be the final nail in the coffin because at the rate at which things are going, I can't see it not being that, or at least being something very close to it.

Tl;dr; Pokemon's always been this way, but Game Freak no longer has an excuse for it.

Remember the backwards long jump glitch from Super Mario 64? There's a similar glitch in SV:

Some multiplayer glitches:

This one's my favorite:

pokemon scarlet violet glitch.png

Not a glitch, but here's a way to access an in-game "secret" back-up save:
All you have to do is simultaneously press X + B + UP on either game's title screen and you'll be able to access your game's backup data. Even if you've turned "Off" the game's autosave, this backup will apparently still work.

Terastralise pokemon kinda grow on me. Imagine if gamefreak let us customize where/look of tera crystal when it attaches to pokemon.
Imagine Flame cannon Blastoise or Ice fist hitmonchan.
Not going to lie some of the terastral hats design look strange on pokemon.

The fact that the game does function, despite the poor optimization, is why the franchise hasn't had it's TLJ moment yet. The fact that the drama about the franchise hasn't involved IRL politics yet, also plays a factor as to why the franchise hasn't hit rock bottom yet, i.e. what happened with The Last of Us Part II, where the "bigot/homophobe/transphobe/anti-Semite/Islamophobe/Q-Anon/GamerGater/Republican/1/6er/Trump supporter/Canada "Freedom Convoy" terrorist" labels were all used towards people that didn't like the game, and Naughty Dog's toxic work environment, mainly due to Neil Druckmann.

And given how the games seemingly need to have a new generation churned out every 3 or so years, in addition to GF's coding mishaps in the past (i.e. Iwata needing to clean up GF's bloated code when they couldn't fit G/S on a cartridge), crunch time could be a factor, or developer incompetence. It reminds me of Gran Turismo 7, which supposedly had a 5 year development cycle, but the game still was missing features that were in past GT games.
