Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

This is something I've been thinking about for a while, but I think that no matter how bad pokemon gets, there will never be a "pokemon killer". A lot of people come in with better games than Pokemon being like "Yeah, we're the Pokemon killer." But the problem is you aren't competing with Pokemon, the game, you're competing with Pokemon, the brand. If being the Pokemon killer was as simple as making a better game, it would've happened by now because that bar is so low an ant couldn't limbo under it. TemTem or whatever could never beat Pokemon because they could never make billions selling things with Pikachu's face on it.

A product that's set to be a "X killer" is bound to fail. Remember when Sony's own Killzone was claimed to be the Halo killer just to spite Microsoft, and look how that turned out.

Brands that big don't get killed by the competition unless they face a major scandal that creates a movement away from the property (Bud Light Effect). The sheer mass of the enterprise will keep merchandise churning for decades. Kids get shown the old series by nostalgic parents who also let them engage with the new content because they remember it being clean entertainment and is an easy fixation to cater to.

Are there any Pokémon games for the Switch worth picking up? I've got Pokken Tournament; I find it to be fun, personally. Are there any others that you guys might suggest?
I had a blast with Legends Arceus. To me it felt like my childhood dreams came true with it (it's very close to what I always have wished for in terms of gameplay in Pokemon games) and it is the first time since Red/Blue that I 100% a Pokemon game.
Of course it absolutely has some flaws (for example the intro/tutorial phase takes ages, as with all modern Pokemon games), but to me they are outshined by the insanely addicting gameplay. Actually I can't really go back to the "old" way of gameplay anymore after that.

On that note: I was eagerly hoping for an announcement of the sequel in the recent direct. Can't wait when this gets announced and I hope they don't screw it up.

I always start each pokemon game with a male ralts and I promise it every time it levels up that I'm gong to evolve it into gallade. I even keep him equipped with a dawn stone. I even give him high ATK IVs and an adamant nature, increasing its physical attack and lowering SP attack, he's going to absolutely reign supreme as a physical attacker gallade

He finally evolves into kirlia and then it's just one more, but of course I press B each subsequent level. Playfully at first, teasing him as if it's merely an accident. Then afterwards I absolutely promise to evolve him into a proper Gallade next time, with absolute certainty. Right as he's breaching for the next level I rip away his dawn stone and force my rare candy down his throat, I laugh horribly into his ears as his body forcibly feminizes in front of me, long flowing gown slipping down those slender legs as all of his physical prowess and hopes melt away into broken dreams and regret. He's my sissy gardevoir bitch and even with an adamant nature I'm going to break him and use him, parading him in front of the world as I ultimately defeat the elite four and broadcast to the world that I own this megaevolved wedding gown male gardevoir bitch.

That sounds very stupid

Pseudo Legendarys used to be a highlight of every generation and dont have to be intimidating. Even Goodra, both forms, have their appeal (not that kind of appeal they have for a certain tumblr lolcow) and fits into the Kalos' theme like Garchomp fits the cave region that is Sinnoh. Dragapult was a huge disappointment and this ugly ass shaved Duraludon is no better.
I like Dragapult's head and its transparent tail, even if the rest of its deisgn is just a boring lizard.
Shaved Duraludon, how come I didn't think of that lol

Except that in BW + BW2, Contrary isn't accessible whatsoever both due to Snivy being a starter and the fact that Hidden Abilities were locked to Hidden Grottos and the now-defunct Dream World until gen 6+, so you can't even have fun with that combo outside of one single event that I downloaded :smug: in gen 6 that might've allowed you to make Serperior usable.

Or, you know, hacking.
Oh, you meant in their debut generation? My starter Serperior in White is decent with Leaf Blade and Coil/Swords Dance, but yeah it gets destroyed in online play,

Yeah, I don't tend to consider how mon perform in competitive because it's like my least favorite aspect of the games and I'm always so late to the online-play party that I rarely get to participate. In base BW Serperior sucks dick until like gym 7-8 when it finally gets Coil/Swords Dance but by that point almost every other grass type you can find outclasses it (Sawsbuck has Horn Leech and a better Attack stat + Normal STAB,
Lilligant has better Special with Quiver Dance + Energy Ball or Petal Dance for easy sweeping,
Whimsicott either has Prankster (with Leech Seed, Tailwind, Powders, etc) for maximum annoyance or Energy Ball for sweeping,
Leavanny has Leaf Blade + bug STAB with Swords Dance and a (much) better Attacking stat,
Ferrothorn is fucking Ferrothorn and outclasses almost everything else in the game even with Rocky Helmet + Iron Barbs alone) and it's just an overall shitty pick as a result. The only two Grass types I can think of that are as bad as it in Unova's dex are Maractus (a 1% encounter on one route that still has better attacking stats than Serperior, just a somewhat-worse movepool) and Simisage (a shitty starter clone).

It's also weak to the first gym (as is every starter), the third, and the last three in BW1 and the second, third, sixth, and seventh in BW2. So by the time Serperior starts being even slightly usefu, its utility in boss fights plummets to near-zero (especially in BW2, even if Marlon does help it a little).
Why people continue to parade Meganium around as a symbol of uselessness as opposed to Snivy is beyond me, but I guess most people dislike Meganium's design enough (in comparison) and value earlygame usefulness (which Chikorita has much worse than Snivy does) enough that Meganium has more staying power. At least Meganium gets Reflect and Light Screen to be able to provide some support to the rest of its team...

When you put it that way, yeah, Serperior sounds quite useless, but honestly I didn't notice it playing through the games as a kid. Unless you're doing a challenge run you can just overlevel to make up for any weaknesses in movepool or typing, and as Serperior is a starter it's more likely to be overleveled than most other Pokemon (especially because it's decent early game as you said). Also, I'm one of those people that picks Pokemon based on their design without really caring if they're good.

I also go off of design, but there comes a point where even a mon's design isn't enough to save it. I fucking love Ariados but even in HGSS it's so completely useless that it's obsolete before it even has a chance at proving otherwise. Same goes for Beheeyem and Kabutops to a lesser extent. Serperior and Meganium have never bothered me due to that affinity for their designs (that being: I don't hate them), but their poor performance is noticeable and I tend not to pick either unless I'm explicitly looking for a challenge... which, to be fair, I now do like 90% of the time when replaying lol.

Overleveling is also an option, but come onnn that's boring. A lot of the fun of the game comes from making your team, you can't just leave it at your starter!

Like with the mythical "halo killer" meme, the only thing that will kill Pokemon is itself. Like many more Japanese IP's before it did.

Wait until you hit the second half of the game. Where the AI would always cheat and give itself multiple turns in a row in every battle even when your pokemon has a higher speed stat and no stat buffs are on the enemy team. The first half of the game this seldom happened and when it did, it was mostly against alpha pokemon.

Cropping out the Koffing and using it as your avatar would be pretty funny IMO.
(Found this on /vp/. I think there's mild Twitter drama over this.)
