....these are just rejected G-Max forms aren't they? I've seen fan designs have more creativity than Game Freak's abominations.

It's about the colors. The design is similar but the mockup's colors are the inverse of the leak because the description's wording is confusing.

That's what I keep saying, these new Megas are following the Gigantamax style.

You know, I should absolutely hate Mega Meganium's design. But I'm kind of a dumb sucker for the giant layered flowers. If anything, it should just be festooned with even more petals, go the full 9 yards with it!
 
It's been said before, but the big problem is that Mega evolution does not have a design philosophy the way that the other gimmicks do.

The general idea seems to be to take an aspect of the Pokemon and exaggerate it, but that's fundamentally what gmax and making things even more friends is that regional variants also have that philosophy but they're based around a specific typing.

That means that there really isn't much to work with because they never laid a solid foundation to begin with and because they've done other things since X and Y it becomes even harder to differentiate them.

Those are just the base forms but with more random details added to them, and that Feraligatr looks like a furry's OC.

Exaggerating an aspect of the Pokemon is Gigantamax's design philosophy. Mega Evolution's theme is in its name: a type of evolution that pushes a Pokemon to its limits.

It's true that some Megas exaggerate one aspect and don't do much else, like Slowbro and Venusaur, but most of them do resemble an evolution. For example, Mega Lucario, Rayquaza, Audino and the Charizards look exactly what you'd expect an evolution on steroids to look like.

They al look bootleggy. Mega Typhlosion's mohawk seems tacked on him. Mega Meganium seems half-done while the leaves just add that bootleg look. Mega Feraligatr is pretty much a regular Feraligatr head tacked onto a different body, probably coping wit how the beta Silver sprite is not canon. Only Mega Hisuian looks good, by looking ugly in a way that fits how Hisuian channels ghosts and therefore going through that 'witch doctor' æßthetic.

I more so meant how they go about evolving those designs because the idea of what made that Pokemon what it is and maybe what direction they want to take it with is pretty complex IMHO.

I that inherent subjectivity is partially why a couple of the new designs are getting backlash because we've had decades of fan interpretations of what a Mega Dragonite would look like and most just took it in direction of it being a serpentine dragon that looks like it's pre-evolutions or some kind of superhero.

There's nothing that says what a Mega evolution cannot and can look like so when the official design is kind of minimalistic it causes blow back after what something could have been.

I think a lot of this is on game freak because after Megas what a gimmick is supposed to Intel becomes incredibly specific which is why fan-made paradox designs or regional forms are a lot more in line with what we expect.

My quick reactions to the megas BTW.

Meganium- I like it but it's essentially what everyone expected a mega for it to be right down to it being part fairy.

Dragonite - it's ok, I heard it's supposed to be a mix between a seraphim and Hermes which is cool but I feel like there's a lot of ideas cooking in that design for what is effectively a very simplistic Pokemon overall.

Victeribel- I actually really like how goofy he is and he kind of reminds me of a piranha plant even more than he already did. I get why some find them off putting but it does make me laugh

Zygarde- apparently this guy is based off of a specific kind of virus which ties into his cell basis but I'm probably going to see more of it to make a proper judgment.

The issue with Mega Dragonite is that Game Freak did what the fans have already done, but worse. The fans did a much better job of designing a Dragonite with Dragonair traits than just halfheartedly slapping Dragonair's wings and pearl on it.

If the new Megas are getting blowback for being minimalistic then that means a Mega's design is expected to be complex, and it's true, gen 6 Megas have more details, colors and markings compared to their base form, meanwhile these new ones look like they belong in Super Mario.

I'm torn between Feraligatr's Scorch Silver and Elite Redux megas. Feraligatr going on all fours is something IRL Alligators do, so it's not in the realm of impossible, and yet, the latter's prehistoric dinosaur roots is also a nice touch.

GS Chronicles just makes me gag... it's no different from what GameFreak would probably do now.

Is Scorched Silver ripping off GS Chronicles' Meganium or is it the other way around? Anyway, I like Chronicles Typhlosion and Elite Feraligatr. The Meganiums just have detail for the sake of detail.

Once you realize decisions for japanese lead products have the quite logical goal of appealing to first japanese people and then being what is good for the people making the decisions it all makes sense.

In this case. TPC is choosung to book near Disneyland because its the easiest flight from Japan and they want a paid for trip to Disneyland for a couple of years. The thought process was literally "oh yeah lets do the Disney area"

Hawaii? Once again even easier flight mega popular destination for Japanese tourists.

Why would you not book for a easy lay up vacation paid for by your work?

This is correct.

Japanese LOVEEEEE France and Hawaii which is why these were some of the first regions they tried to do the moment 3D became a thing in the series.

Additionally, the Japanese adore nostalgia more than the average American because so many series that I watch be a dbz, one piece, Digimon, or what have you love to pay tribute to some of the first set of installments within the franchise above literally anything else.

Digimon adventure has been remade several times in the last decade for example and each one gets progressively worse than the last.
