This is one of the worst designs I’ve ever seen

Ok, rate me clocks and ignore the cotton candy lady for a second. What in the world is that Clefable design? It's the first time I'm seeing it properly and it just feels so... wrong?

It's like they wanted to make a regional variant, but never got the opportunity to do it, so they took an early concept, slapped some enormous fairy wings and called it a day.

It doesn't even feel like a moon-themed creature. It's just... weird.

It kinda looks like Caitlin, from the Unova E4.

It's the hat.

is this really going to be your only schtick in this thread, as if this particular generation molested your mother and killed your father somehow?

It's getting lame dude.
People do love to call gen 5 & 6 the beginning of the end for the series, and I kinda am that type of person too but I also used to think the same of gen 3 before that, at least when I was a snotty little kid.
Every generation but 4 introduced something new to the combat mechanics; gen 5 was the first to introduce a gimmick that was then discarded for the next game (3 on 3 battles), while gen 6 introduced a massive retcon to pre-existent pokemons in order to introduce a new type. I used to hate them both because I was a retard sperg and retard spergs hate change, but honestly I would have moved on and maybe even returned to try new entries in franchise if game freak took the opportunity to balance up other old pokemons instead of leaving them to power creep, instead of just use mega-evolutions, a temporary gimmick to be discarded later, for doing that.
Regional variants introduced in gen 7 did adress the problem but never really with it too, instead of fixing your gen 1 pokemon being shit because game freak sucks ass at balancing, you instead get a replacement with a different design.
Unova revived my love after Diamond killed it. I didn't even want to play Platinum, because G4 just sucked.

But, then I saw how crazy the opening cinematic for G5 was...
Gen 4 was something I loved, but I never played diamond & pearl, I know those games are shit and that platinum is just better, and even without them, Explorers of sky and the gen 2 remakes do exists, and while I do have complains about HGSS, I always have to admit its just nitpicking fueled by my nostalgic memories of stealing my old brother gameboy to play pokemon Silver when he was away, whenever my brother would find it out, he would end up beating me.
I would often walk around the map and catch pokemons or use his Lugia, and sometimes save. One day, I saved his game in front of the grass and seconds later found Entei, immediately catched it with the masterball but my mom caught me before I could save a second time and forced the gameboy out of my hand. The next day, my brother came back at home from school with a smug face because of the big fire lion legendary that he caught.
I never told him what happened because I always feared he would beat me for it...

XY and ORAS still had Triple and Rotation battles. They were even a format in the Battle Maison with their own bosses that you had to play through to fully complete it. It was Gen 7 that dropped them because GF added the trainers being visible during battle, and those couple extra models on the field meant battles with 6 Pokemon out would tank the FPS to unplayable levels, and then they never brought them back in the Switch games because they don't give a shit.

Terrible opinion.
Base Gen 4, Diamond and Pearl (not HGSS or Platinum), were slow and boring.
No new battle gimmick, the whole "le evil team dipshits" were the same (with a worse design, but that's subjective) as Rocket, Magma, and Aqua. The formula was boring.

I have never played Platinum, because Diamond left such a bad impression on me.

Gen 4 was the physical special split you mongoloid.

I kinda share the hatred of gen 4 base games.
It doesn't makes any better how much they fucked up by having a dozen legendaries with limited giveaways, the overall slow pacing and formula becoming stagnant (which is still a problem with nintendo games).
Hell, the fact that you need to play a later release to fix most of those problems doesn't makes it better, and I'd advocate that it's even scummier than some of the stuff we get today.

Don't forget Gen 6 introduced another battle type that was sorta liked-disliked depending on who asked, the raid battles where you faced 5 Pokemon at once. And then Gen 7 took the concept and shot it behind the shed. Personally I was a fan of Gen 6's raid battles, even if it was a bit slow to get through because it spiced up wild encounters a bit. The "oh yeah, these are still wild animals at the end of the day" feeling that wasn't there with the newer gens free roaming Pokemon.

Generation 4 and 5 had the exact same number of event only legendaries for their generation.
Generation 4 had Manaphy, Arceus, Darkrai and Shaymin.
Generation 5 had Victini, Keldeo, Genesect and Meloetta.
Generation 4 also covered Sinnoh, Johto and Kanto, generation 5 was just Unova.

that's not a gimmick... And like, I didn't even know the difference as a kid. Double battles were different, and new. The change in how you chose your moves was immediate, because you could see stuff like earthquake hitting everybody.
Splitting which stat calculates the damage was in fact a gimmick, pokemon like Gyarados could now do actual damage with STAB water moves.

Gimmick implies it was temporary, or new. The special stat was always a thing...

Manaphy required a different game. Like, yes g4 has the same amount of mythicals... But manaphy required you to buy a different physical game. You didn't have to do that for any g5 mythicals.

Physical special split is literally new, it came with new moves so that physical fire or special fighting types could utilize their stats properly.

Pokemon you get from games are still obtainable without having to use any fake DNS changes on your DS.

But you've got no argument for the game being slow, and the story being boring and samey?
Sounds like it's bad, sorry.

The first game of any Pokemon gen has always suffered from feeling half-assed to an extent. GS and BW are the only ones that felt mostly complete and stable on the first go. Gens 3 and 4 had their long-term reputation helped a lot by Emerald and Platinum existing, and conversely more people started to realize how poor XY was once it became clear there would be no Z to fix it.

And people aren't as keen to see GF release updated versions anymore because as a business strategy it feels more scummy now that updates and DLC exist, but devs aren't going to overhaul the base game to be better with DLC the way they would with an updated re-release, so with DLC in Gens 8 and 9 you get a couple extra areas with shorter storylines that are arguably more interesting than the base game, but the base game still sucks.

Gen 5 is such a slow game you have to get on a ferris wheel with a homosexual.
Sorry your moving the goalposts to reveal gen 5 did the same shit you complain about didn't work out.

I thought Black & White's Animal Pokemon Liberation Front "Pokemon rights group" terrorist badguys were an interesting concept to explore. Sadly its writing was clunky/it ultimately got bogged down by your standard late 2000's anime gnostic Freemason-y themed conspiracy nonsense (was the Davinci Code or the Nation Treasure film franchise super popular in Japan or something?)

With an decent editor/writer that didn't have a hard on for National Treasure (seriously, why the weird Ghetis Freemasony cult stuff?) Black & White could have been amazing. Black & White 2 sorta fixes said issues (the badguys are even dressed like ALF terrorists, as opposed to Medieval Times employees Larping on their lunch break as in the original Black & White) but it still is too clunky/all over the place for my liking. Hopefully one day in the future, a Rom hacker fixes said issues (like that Platinum hack from a few years back that made the available Pokemon much more balanced/Team Galactic is treated as a greater threat).

PS: hot take on recent Pokemon generations: I think Pokemon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon were surprisingly decent/underrated (note: the first iterations were an unfinished mess).

Just because it's an issue shared with gen 5, it doesn't means I don't hate it.
Again, my hatred doesn't go beyond base games (Diamond/pearl), I honestly think the series peaked with hg/ss + Pt + Sky.
Everyone that isn't blinded by nostalgia will have a list of issues to present for each game of this fucking series so shouldn't go apeshit.

I think I wouldn't say that I like gen 4 if it wasn't for the games that came after diamond and pearl.
I also believe ruby and sapphire are the games you have the least reasons to go back and play in the whole series.
Red, Green, Blue and Yellow have different bugs each for you to mess with.
Crystal has a few pokemons removed that only brings me back into playing G/S, also both Lugia and Oh-ho miss their exclusive moves in crystal.
Some trainers in Diamond and Pearl have different teams that makes it a little more challenging in particular secions. It's not that much but still a more notable difference than anything RS have.
Gen 5 is such a slow game you have to get on a ferris wheel with a homosexual.
What did gen 5 did to you?
Raped your father while forcing your mother to watch?
