I'm pretty sure I've mentioned in this thread before that I made romhacks of Pokemon XY and ORAS for myself to play through that turned all the battles into Doubles. I didn't share them because the rom rebuilding process made the modified, trimmed roms too different from the base roms for a patching program to make a patch for it. But today I decided to look through the romhack's files and compare them to the unmodified games' using a hex comparison tool and figure out what files were changes exactly and why.

Because of that, I was able to narrow the modified files down and I can just share those since 3DS emulators (and modded 3DSs) support just sticking the modded files in a folder where it will load those priority over the base game's unmodified files. The mods do the following things:
  • Almost every fight is a Double Battle now, main exception are some Battle Chateau opponents in XY. A lot of boss fights like Gym Leaders were made into Triple Battles in ORAS only.
  • You can find version exclusives from the opposite version in the wild.
  • Trade evolution Pokemon no longer require trading (either they're level up evos now or "level up with this held up on").
  • There's also modifications to Pokemon data for my conveniance, mainly giving everything a catch rate of 255 and giving starters a 50/50 gender ratio. There's directions in the readme on what files to delete if you don't want that.
I do think Gen 6 games are too fucking easy that they need a major overhaul and these mods don't really do much in the end to make them much more fun to play, but I figured I'll upload them if anyone is really curious.

Invites for Creator passes for Worlds 2026 are being sent out today and that means two thing, that invites Multi-day spectator passes should be coming out shortly (possibly next week for the first wave) and that content creator lolcows that specialize in Pokémon are ready for milking.

Making the Gym battles more interesting would be a good start. One of the things I HATED about XY was that each Gym leader only had two pokemon on them, even in postgame, which has historically made them much tougher in other games giving them a full team but not these games for whatever asinine reason.

The new EXP system is big problem. Game Freak didn't really balance the game for it, and it would be difficult to even do so. Making full use of EXP Share + Amie bonus levels you up way too fast that balancing the existing EXP curve around it would likely cause you to reach and be fighting level 100 opponents by the end of the game. Gen 7 at least brought back the scaled EXP, which helps things not get as out of hand.

It also doesn't help that so many major opponents have few Pokemon with bad movesets, although I wonder how much of an issue the AI itself is. I tried buffing the major opponent teams a little, but it felt like even when the AI level is set to max they still often make braindead plays and ignore any obvious synergy I left for them. Even Battle Maison opponents feel like they're just doing shit at random half the time.

Is it the Gen1 TwitchPlaysPokemon situation or is it really random?

Basically in Gen1 if you used a Venomoth against Lance's Dragonite it'll only use Barrier and Agility because those are Psychic type moves even though they are only self-status moves so the AI is thinking "Oh poison type, so it's weak to psychic"

There's definitely some logic under the hood since I don't think the AI routines changed much from generation to generation after Gen 3, but for some reason it just felt like the Gen 6 AI was particularly weighted towards attacking or using debuffs of little impact instead of set-up that would directly support them and their partner. It could just be an illusion of perception, but with how easy things could already be it as particularly frustrating to watch them be retarded. I know the AI in every gen has always had a problem in Doubles & Triples where it doesn't have any logic to really plan out the combined effect of both its Pokemon's actions for that turn, so it just selects targets at random and doesn't particularly try to focus attacks on one of your guys to finish them off or anything like that.

I'll admit, I'm surprised to hear this, because despite constantly rotating between a couple teams of pokemon or so to prevent what you described the Gen 6 experience as, I was still on the level for the Pokemon League in Moon, leading me to believe it was exactly the same as in Gen 6. Maybe because of the fact that I was constantly rotating resulted in that happening, as the lower level team would start leveling faster because they were a pinch weaker than what I was up against.
The above was still preferable to the Gen 6 experience where you get to the Level 60 Elite Four that only use 4 pokemon with level 80 pokemon, however.

The funniest fact about the AI in any pokemon game is that in base diamond and pearl, the AI choose what moves to use COMPLETELY by random. For example Cynthia's garchomp used earthquake against my gyarados in pearl when I tried out base DP.

The alola games definitely did the exp share the best out of any pokemon game, especially since you can turn it off if you get too over leveled. Also a part of this is that the alola games had pretty challenging battles. I'm someone who basically always uses only a team of 6 but the fact you can switch up your team with ease is pretty nice.

I Finally fucking pulled a Mega attack rare and its a Gengar I think maybe 160 packs for that, weird pull rates for something supposedly more common.
I picked up 9 booster boxes today with over half already paid for on preorder months ago and then rest just asking a couple eb games I went to if they had any extras.

A few are for my nephew, who has been staying all week, every night we have been playing the battle academy and the last couple days he wanted to make his own decks by combinng the preset card lists and "borrow" a few of my cards, of course this made it impossible to actually beat him so tonight I made a Team Rocket Honchkrow deck just to fuck with him before he has to go home on Sunday.

Sorry if there are any Nuzlocke restrictions that make any of these things non-options. I've never looked into Nuzlockes myself, so I only know about the permadeth part of it.
Generally with default Nuzlockes it's "first encounter on that route you have to catch" I think.
Though with some leeway for Safari Zone regions and different levels of caves, etc. I assume.

There's also other "lockes" that have other restrictions, i.e. has to be monotype, or no fully evolved, etc.

That being said your information is good because there is at least 2 levels to New Mauville and both are garaunteed an electric encounter.

Usually the rule is that you can only catch the first pokemon you encounter each route. Unless you already have that pokemon, then you can skip it and catch the next one (some also include evolutions, so for example if you have Sentret and your first encounter is Furret it counts as you having that pokemon). If you accidentality faint the first pokemon you encounter or run out of balls etc, you're shit out of luck for that route.

For anyone who knows, is Celia's Stupid Romhack worth playing? From what I see it seems to be puzzle based with a lot of Reddit humour, and this post doesn't help.

3-day pass invites for Worlds 2026 spectators have been going out as recently as Tuesday, I wasn’t lucky enough to get a pass for this wave but it the same thing happened last year so I’m going to be patient not assume the worst.
Someone who did 3D-animated documentary-style videos of Pokémon got copyright-struck. The videos are already gone.
There is a backup here: https://archive.org/details/PokeNational
From what I understand they kind of broke the cardinal rule about having a Patreon for a project that involves a Nintendo IP, while it’s sad he really only has himself to blame for it.
