Pokémon (Not-So) Griefing Thread - Scarlet and Violet Released with 10 Million Copies in First 3 Days in Buggy States

You mean three? Only Victini, Zekrom, and Reshiram were shiny locked in the original Black and White. the other 7 legendary Pokemon(Musketeer Trio, Kami Trio, and Kyurem) could be shiny. There were no in-game Keldeo, Meloetta, and Genesect events to shiny lock in the first place, but the latter got a Japanese shiny event in Gen V.
It still started a really stupid trend nonetheless. Ever since then they've gotten more and more invasive with what you aren't allowed to shiny hunt for beyond the obvious mythicals. In X/Y the main trio, Kanto birds and Mewtwo couldn't be shiny, in ORAS the main trio, the cosplay Pikachu and Deoxys (I count it here since it's treated as a "regular" encounter and not tied to an event), SM the Cosmog line, the hat Pikachus, Ultra Beasts (who were unlocked in USUM) and Tapus, and then SWSH took it one retarded step further by locking out the starter you begin the game with, the G-Slowpoke that kicks off IoA and the main trio as usual.

In Wyndon, stuck looking for some mystery NPC that's supposed to be around the monorail. But been stuck for a couple days.

I wonder why Zacian hasnt appeared yet. Must be part of the post game.

Well my memory's dumb. I was sure you could encounter Keldeo, Genesect and Meloetta in battle but that isn't the case. However one I am certain couldn't be shiny was the Zoroark in Lostlorn Forest - granted, you encounter it as a shiny legendary beast but when the shiny lock is removed it is possible to encounter the disguise's normal form, which means the game treats the disguise as a completely different pokemon which dumbfounds me because they could've just locked the disguise and not the Zoroark. So that's technically five 'mons they locked.

Invasive is definitely the key word here. Why they even want shiny hunters of all people to play by their demented rules is fucking beyond me and it was finding out about the starters being shiny locked in SWSH that ultimately stopped me from purchasing the games. The only time I've ever seen the lock used correctly is on the uncatchable Pooch in ORAS. I don't understand why they're so against people playing the games in any way other than the way they want them to.

Destruction of player choice has been their modus operandi for quite some time.

Want to shiny hunt that legendary? Sorry, we locked it so we can arbitrarily release a soulless event for it later. Want to explore different routes for a change of pace instead of going from point A to Point B in a straight line? Sorry, the paths have been blocked by (insert bullshit excuse here). Want to challenge yourself and turn off EXP Share? Sorry we removed that, just constantly swap your mons in and out instead. Fuck you.

If you are at the moment I am thinking you are, then you need to check the phone booth.

As for the second part, I'm obviously pointing my answer in a spoiler tag.

The Legendary Dogs don't appear in the story until basically the last minute (Where they help you and Hop fight another Legendary Pokemon), and you can't actually catch your respective one until the postgame.

So, I beat Pokémon White. And from both the second game and the first, the main issue I find is the linearity when it came to just collecting gym badges. The first game and lack of other regional mons (seriously, not even a Pikachu?) during the course of main was not that much of an issue.

*Replace Zekrom with a Liepard, and that was my main team for this adventure. The ice cream pokémon rules, btw.

Overall, Gen 5 was a treat that I recommend those who have yet to play it. Now, on to HGSS! I've been wanting to at least touch Johto once.

Gen 5 was honestly rock solid. It’s been rumored that Gen 4 was supposed to be a conclusion to the series, which makes sense regarding the Pokémon it introduced and Gen 5 being a soft reboot.

Finished the main campaign last night

So turns out Zacian and Zamazenta aren’t even the stars of the main story after all, it was Eternatus. I don’t know how I missed that that was supposed to be a Pokémon. I thought it was some human figure. I don’t spoil entire Dex’s for myself like that. Since it appears that Eternatus gets its power from Dynamaxing, which the NPCs have linked to Wishing Stars, does that mean that all along, Sword & Shield was “Pokémon Stars?”

Also, what exactly was Rose’s motives? He never truly seemed evil, just a Pokémon-take on a philanthropist. It let me down that his entire team was Steel type. I wiped his floor with my Cinderace. I got a chuckle when the NPCs confirmed that he turned himself in.

He was literally impatient to solve a problem that wouldn't come up for a thousand years despite having a team that would have benefited from that time and effort being put to find safer solutions to harness eternius' power, esspecally considering he worked with other people before with his company's ventures, it makes no sense that he didn't take that opportunity. guy's just dumb/poorly written

So, there's this new story event in Masters that features Cyrus.

Screenshot_20200818-112848_Pokmon Masters.jpg

This Cyrus comes from a different reality where he nearly succeeded in his plan, but was brought to this world by Hoopa. All the trainers in Pasio are alerted about him and go out to hunt for him.

Meanwhile, Cyrus runs into Sophocles and they bond a little over a Rotom and machines. Cyrus ask him about his thoughts on the world and it's "incompleteness" and spirit. After he gives his thoughts on that, Cyrus is disappointed to hear that he does feel the same way about it as he does. Apparently, the whole point in him even bothering to talk with Sophocles was because he reminded him of himself when he was younger.

Later, Cyrus decides that if he can't go back he'll just bring Dialga here and complete his plans in this world. He is, of course, stopped by the self-insert, Sophocles and Cheryl but all three of them are beaten by Palkia.

Before he could continue, Cynthia comes in with her newly acquired Kommo-o and beats them through the power of their bond. Cyrus, devastated by this and being confronted by everyone about his beliefs, leaves.

From there, he decides that he won't change his ways and that he will have his plans realized.

Also, Cynthia's got a new getup with her new partner pokemon Kommo-o.

According to Cynthia, she raised it since it was an egg and has since formed a strong bond with it. So, fuck Garchomp I guess...

From there, he decides that he won't change his ways and that he will have his plans realized.
And then he just joins you out of nowhere, all while he's on his lonesome and his resolve unshaken, which makes absolutely no sense. Even Giovanni gave you a reason for him to join you, that being that he's using you to build up his plans and hiding it all from you at the same time. This is quite disappointing since Masters' story events have been great so far, and so was this one, but this ending is so anticlimactic.

Cyrus is one of those villains that makes more sense as a standalone villain and only sort of works in contrast to the other villains; he's a high-functioning sociopath who can't really comprehend emotion, willpower, or knowledge and consequently sought to remake the current world into one without soul or spirit.

He doesn't really work outside the context of his own game, since his whole motivation is pretty closely linked to the symbolism of Sinnoh's legendaries in the first place; in Platinum, he ends up getting the fate he deserves, banishing himself to the Distortion World as it's pretty much his own ideal reality. He gets saved in other continuities thanks to his team, but otherwise that's pretty much the extent of his characterization.

I always got the implication that Cyrus was somewhere on the spectrum, and that he might've been somewhat suicidal, considering his only real goal was to create a blank world he could live in, but using extreme methods that would outright eliminate the existence of any real "life". I don't even think he really ever treats any of his commanders or admins with any real reverence, he just coldly regards them as nothing more than useful tools.

I more got the impression that he was just an introverted boy in his childhood and, frustrated by his loneiness, decided to find an unorthodox solution to his problem later in his life.

Considering Steven got rid of Metagross in favor of Alola Sandslash, it's safe to say either the makers of this game don't really care about continuity, GameFreak is making them push Alola for whatever reason, or both.
It's not that. It's this thing in the game where they have the trainers put on alternate outfits and change their pokemon along with it. They even offer an in-universe reason for the outfit and partner change. For example, when a character puts on a "Sygna Suit" it's shown as a sign that the trainer is "getting serious".

Before Summer Steven and and Sygna Suit Cynthia there was Brock, who went from his usual Gym leader clothes with his Onyx to his Sygna suit with Tyranitar:

And with Elesa she went to her Gym leader get up and Zebstrika to her Sygna suit and Rotom:

The Alolan partner pokemon are (at least for Steven) pretty much to coincide with the fact that it's the summer season.

I feel like it's worth pointing out that these are specifically for variant versions of trainers - the 'main' versions have the signatures you'd expect. Happens all the time in gacha games, where a character with a particular signature weapon or something will switch to a different one for their alt variants.
