I couldn't disown my child for something like poly, just tell them they're playing with fire every time they bring it up: it could possibly annoy them away from me, but it would be tough love and I'd make it clear they could come back at any time. They might get a lesser share of my estate and would get even less if they or their partners have shit spending habits: poly people tend to be impulsive so if my child becomes a consoomer of merch or drug addict I'm not fucking funding that.

Disowning for those parents is fine and reasonable. Even if the story isn't true, the parents did it in the best way possible and I have a lot of respect for that. It's a form of tough love and drawing a hard line on acceptable behavior since relationships with 2 people are hard and any more is a fucking nightmare of emotions. It really is just trying to cut off selfish and reckless behavior in your dumbass spawn, and not dealing with them if they don't for everyone's mental health.

If it was just selfish that would almost be the better option, because there seems to be a much grosser element to it, like they're specifically getting off to the idea of pushing boundaries with their kids. Nobody should ever "plant the seeds" of anything related to sex in children's minds, and if they do they probably need to be investigated.

That appears to be a common feature, a sort of iconoclastic element where they're doing it as much because they're excited about violating traditional ideas of monogamy as anything else.
