The post is mostly all right. The attempt to connect it to libertarian politics is mostly wrong. The poly community is full of people who abhor libertarianism, many of them self-identified socialists, who behave more like the author's stereotype of an objectivist than any objectivist could. This requires cognitive dissonance on the order of an MLP-hating CWC fan, but if anyone can manage that kind of idiocy, they can.
There are poly libertarians, though.
This is something that always comes up in discussions of these sorts of behaviors. 'Nobody in MY community is a freak! It's all those other losers over there!' The truth is that if you like something non-normative, there will be polyamorists, kinksters, furries, troons, and other weirdos afoot. The only exception is religion, and even then you can't be sure (I've seen plenty of trad wife posts straying uncomfortably into fetish territory).

The main thing I've taken to heart in my time coming to this shithole website it's this: Kill the double standards, even people you like are stupid and fucked up.

TIL that the meaning behind “ménage à trois” is actually quite wholesome; it refers to a “household of three” and not the sexual act of a threesome.

Speaking of weird poly-fuck logic...

...what?

EDIT: No actually it does make some "sense" but I still find it odd

Religious belief is as Oedipal to its very core as kink is.

See, that's the correlation I'd draw. My sample of poly people probably skewed left because the majority of the ones I met were in New England.

But it's not about libertarianism or socialism or anything political. It's about being such a narcissist that you think you're qualified to reinvent the world as a whole, and that your ideas have more force than the facts. And that conviction can survive an astonishing amount of contrary evidence.

These morons really think their vision of polyamory is the same as a member of royalty owning multiple women? This is a false equivalence at best (thinking that kings actually loved their concubines instead of viewing them as pretty, fuckable ornaments), and horribly narcissistic at worst (comparing polyamorists to kings partaking in kingly activities), but completely shallow in both interpretations. Kings did not own concubines because they loved more than one person, they owned concubines because they were so wealthy that they could afford to indulge in their lust (which it was: lust, not love, and they almost always never had the same rights the real wife had). Polygamy had been largely practiced by the rich, not by peasants.

And even even it came to their queens, kings only ever married to secure deals between other noble families; Political dynastic intrigue first, love second. If the king really loved the queen he got married to, great. If he didn't, well, at least he has all these young, pretty hos he bought to take his loneliness out on and indulge in the sick shit his wife may not have been to big on fulfilling

:stress:I can only drop in some community watch threads occasionally, but fuck this is a hard one. It’s just like jfc people I’m sure the poly people that actually work out don’t talk about it on reddit ffs. I wouldn’t consider myself poly, but my wife is into chicks and that’s just something we plan to do before having kids. Not fucking date the damn chick willing to fuck a married couple.

R/poly land of the cucks

Idiomatic expressions, how do they work? (I'm waiting for this galaxy brain to come up with a reason for "my little cabbage" being a term of endearment.)

Welcome to how every poly situation starts. Enjoy your cuckdom.

I mean it’s gonna be a chick so if that’s the definition lmfao.
Don't mind us. We'll patiently wait for your r/polymory post about how your wife decided she was actually a lesbian the whole time, divorced you, and took half your shit.

Be sure to update us on the (un)surprising details!

So, you think your wife will get this pesky lesbian/bi thing out of her system via a few threesomes and then she'll be raring to be a suburban soccer mom? Best of luck with that.

Setting aside all the gross emotional manipulation and cognitive dissonance of poly folx, I’ve always wondered how the hell they find the time and energy for extra relationships. Do they not have anything else going on in their lives? (i.e. jobs, friends, families).

I’m happily married now, but I still remember how exhausting dating was. Spending hours reading profiles, carefully vetting people, messaging them, getting ready for dates etc. was very time consuming. The inevitable emotional highs and disappointments weren’t fun either, it was a lot of work for very little reward, since 90% of the time there was never a second date.

I only know of one couple who had a successful long-term open relationship, but they were swingers who ended up going back to monogamy when they decided to get married.
