I think I know what you’re talking about. I used to see it a bunch with the Littlest Pet Shop toys (the cute ones before that abomination of a show was made), it was honestly adorable to watch as a teenager having grown out of that phase but still holding it dear. I can’t remember any details at this point, but I do remember being surprised that ten year olds can be pretty damn clever and funny in their pretend play.Speaking of the Mario side of Youtube. For some reason making videos using plush toys was super popular and I'm not talking about the crazily overproduced stuff you see today. Back then you could tell that it was literally just two kids and a camera making videos for the fun of it.The most notable example I can give is Super Mario Logan who only recently seems to have stopped uploading.
more WTF BOOM and SHOOP DA WHOOP
(also more glorious CD-i memes)
You needed a plug-in for this IIRC, right? The themes, you could put custom background images, I don't remember if they had custom headers, probably? But it was really neat even if everyone had super tacky shit. I think I had some casino themed one because I wanted my channel to be gothic themed, even though all I did was upload Maplestory AMVs...

Shit like this but with the old layout
That stuff was funny as hell and it really bums me out that Youtube Poop seems to mostly be a passe thing.More importantly, YouTube Poop in general.
- The rabbit holes that ended up on truly weird and creepy videos due to almost no regulation outside of blatant CP.
Going way back to 2006 I remember tons of videos that would edit together random things or edit things to be funny, usually old TV shows and anime is what I would see mixed together.
I remember one video that included a clip from The Waltons of John Boy saying "some Storm Troopers came out to my house the other night" and then cut to a clip from Star Wars of Stormtroopers saying "WE THINK HE MAY BE ON LEVEL 7!" but sadly that video is gone.
Here's a surviving video though from that era that gives you an idea of the kind of thing I'm talking about.
There was just so much strange stuff to find on Youtube back before stuff either got deleted or buried under a sea of clickbait garbage, it was more fun to just randomly browse than it is today.
Some other random, long gone things I remember is a video of a group of gun wielding rednecks walking up and someone off camera says in a stereotypical gay voice "Hey, this is a private gay resort!" and one of the rednecks responds "oh yeah?" before they all open fire, shooting at presumably nothing and then one of the rednecks says "handy with the steel, mother fucker!" as they walk off.
I also remember watching some video some teens had filmed with a VHS camcorder in the early 1990s wandering around their suburban neighborhood and one of them making some comment about "white niggers"
There's a lot of weird memories of random stuff I saw on Youtube like that that's long gone.
I also remember what a great source of old TV shows it used to be, I remember watching a lot of episodes MST3K and Tales From The Crypt.
Back when it was both freer and less flooded with clickbait were definitely interesting days for Youtube, I don't hate modern Youtube, there's still plenty of great stuff to be found, but a certain something has definitely been lost.
I also remember the endless vlog debates people would have back and forth over atheism vs Christianity, George W Bush, 9/11 conspiracy theories.
Does anyone remember TheDispatcher? A guy who would film videos while dispatching semi trucks or taxi cabs or something like that? I seem to remember hearing he died.
