Post the old YouTube fads that you miss... - as well as the ones you don't.

Miscellaneous things I remember:
-the 5 star rating system, I think the reason this was changed was because most people just rated 1 or 5 stars, so the transition to like/dislike made sense
-the yellow subscribe button
-"rate, comment, and subscribe!"
-"rate 5 stars!"
-a lot of AVGN copycats angrily reviewing old video games
-raywilliamjohnson, nigahiga, and smosh being some of the most subscribed channels
-web animations blatantly stolen from Newgrounds, and always in worse video quality due to early youtube compressing them
-the 10 minute time limit on videos
-reply girls aka the predecessor of the titty streamer. MissHannahMinx was the most popular one.
-seemingly endless YTPs parodying the Mario and Zelda CD-i games and the Mario Bros and Sonic cartoons. The creators I remember the most are QuibbyJibby, SwishFilmsInc, WalrusGuy, IAmTheGang, and CaptainOhYeah
-"How to get a FREE Club Penguin membership *WORKING* 2008"
-unregistered hypercam 2
-009 Sound System Dreamscape

Fondly remember back in 2008ish when youtube chatrooms existed. Little Auk was in a Pokemon competitive chatroom for Pokemon Platinum where most users were 20-30 year old proto-Smogon fags and had all these different gay restrictive rules. One day, one of the users traded me a Darkrai with Roar of Time, Spacial Rend and Dark Void on it, and wanting some fun I joined a small tournament they were hosting, and beat everyone's ass with it. They got pissed off and wound up removing me from the chatroom even though I wasn't in violation of any tourney clauses.

Years later I'd discover the 30 year old black jannie for that chatroom was carted off to prison for kiddy diddling, and that the Darkrai I got was probably some attempt at grooming, which my autistic little dummy brain didn't think much of back then, and thankfully didn't give out any private info to the creeps.

AMVs, AMVs everywhere (Since copyright on YouTube was absolutely non-existent during its early days)
People reviewing games/tv shows/movies being really easy to find and very small dedicated group of people uploading
Hardly any clickbait
Memes being generally wacky, innocent and inoffensive
Minimal political nonsense
No paedophiles exploiting children

I just miss the sense of it all being transient and a passtime. It had the feeling of going to an impromptu fair or festival. Bunch of hobo's. Some guy playing with fire, who might burn himself. Video reactions. Just the randomness of it.

Now I get the feeling of walking through a movie or news studio. Nervous people doing their jobs.

I don't remember much beyond, lack of ads, lack of dumb recommendations, lack of videos or channels taken down for BS reasons, and yeah, AVGN being among the best things there was on YouTube. Now we get ads up the ass, comment sections and rations being hidden, and other crap.

entire movies split up into like 10 parts.
the customizable youtube pages
newgrounds animations reuploaded onto youtube
animations in general
LINKIN PARK and CASCADA amvs
abridged series (death note was my favorite when i was little)
not naruto abridged series, but i did look at a lot of dubbed parodies. beesnipe is pretty much to blame for my autistic sense of humor growing up
same with ytp. lots and lots of of youtube poop.

2006 (pre-machinima) sm64 blooper videos were the best ngl (too bad youtube corporate overlords have since muted the audio for some episodes of this series)

not a fad, but i sure do miss youtubers saying fuck in their videos, only censoring it out because muh demonitization

I always really liked seeing those animations where they’d take an anime OP and replace all the characters with ones from a different anime. Unfortunately, with the way YouTube treats animation/animators, you don’t really see them as much. Which is a shame because they tended to be pretty well done.
