"Post your Art" Thread

drew a bit early for the month to come

Been a good while since I posted in here and everyone's so ridiculously better than me now jesus fucking christ.
Every avatar I've had I've made myself, save for the stock photo lawgiver one. The last three years I've had a majorty of ones referencing one specific inside joke tied to a homestuck character from a now dead thread. kept it because first I was just lazy but then because I found it funny. 3 years in I'm in too deep and this is just how people see me now, apparently.

So anyways tonight I made this half assed thing, not gonna save it as a file yet but there is a jpeg version on my profile.

These unfinished ones were all from a half awake moment like a half an hour or so ago where i decided to sketch up some ideas for whatever the next iteration of my pfp might be. All of them are unrelated drawings and not meant to be part of the same image.

EDIT: Was going to go to sleep but cranked out some shading/color tests on one of them. Surpssingly decent work for being half awake and with nightmare pain in the left side of my head.

Don't know if I'll use any of these but they were fun to work out while I'm half awake. 'm still dirt cheap/dirt poor n terms of spending money so instead of expensive tools I just use a fucking greasy well used razer mouse I got for dirt cheap on black friday years ago. maybe "greasy" isn't the right term. It's more like I washed my hands once a year or two ago and then there was still some small soapy residue i didn't notice which led to it now being perma-glossy somehow in a gross looking way.

Feels like get a bit worse at drawing every time do, or shit just takes longer for lesser effort due to constant mistakes.

Relatively recently, I attempted digital painting just to get a feel for it and for using some of the brushes in Krita. As a result, I made a sort of wheelheaded being, which somewhat conceptualized a character I had in mind at time.

wheelhead_ds.png

This character was envisioned to have an almost rotationally symmetric part at the head featuring multiple, different nodes equipped on it where one node at a time could become the primary "face" and set the personality of the character, somewhat like a multifaceted Janus. The original idea was for the character to represent a sort of manager, negotiator, or dedicated collective (Freudian) ego, of which other lower characters/beings were uniquely associated/mapped to most of those nodes to allow the wheelheaded character to channel their perspectives. Further, said characters would exist in a sort of living spacepod in a surrealist universe, with the wheelheaded character piloting. This set of ideas were put on the backburner shortly after this, but it still seems to be an interesting foray that I might revisit and rework in the future.
If I recall correctly, I originally desired to make something more detailed/complex than the result before finishing the sketch; I think I considered making the neck start to branch out into the wheel/head rather than remain as it is in addition to wanting more complex geometry of the wheel bits, but when I proceeded to sketch it out, I ending up opting to keep it more simplistic to get to painting it out before succumbing to perfectionism in planning as I often find difficulty in overcoming.
I deem it to be an amateurish, beginner work; I can see some errors and mistakes of technique, particularly with texture (it looks muddy in many parts, particularly on the grey wheel) and the internal ethereal glow, but other aspects such as color seemed mostly okay. I've just left it at this so that I'm reminded of my painterly mistakes going forward.

I should note that I used the default brushes in Krita 5, specifically wet brushes for the most part, to paint this. They seemed okay to use at the time, but I realized I might need better brushes for further work so I've gone and picked up some add-on brush+resource packs for Krita, namely the Rakurri set, as there are some ideas that I might try painting for.

I managed to make a Halloween profile picture for this year off the back of an unfinished sketch from last year. I'm still completely clueless on how to paint or even draw consistently at this point but I like how this came out. It was actually kind of relaxing, putting it together.

...doesn't look as good when it's blown up like this, but hey it's still something lol. More than I've drawn in the past few months.

Feels like I get worse at anatomy and angles the more I fucking draw over the years. Anyways issues aside this is a weird one in terms of origin and I forgot to post it when I worked it out a few days ago as rough as it is.

Now you may be wondering, WHY the fuck is a homestuck character standing next to a png of an enemy from the 2003 video game "Sonic heroes and dressed vaguely like him?" Or maybe you aren't I don't fucking know. Not important. What IS important is it stems from me witnessing some extremely awful shit and getting ideas/being too lazy to start over when tired.
So thanks to a combo of @JesusChristDenton bringing up some guy who claimed to make a character based on something it looked nothing like in an absolutely cursed thread, and google images being absolutely tainted with the guys art. I was made aware of some nightmarish yet extremely on model sonic art. At the time this was happening I was sketching up some ideas for a new avatar to continue my running thing, but then my chronic gamer autismo brain kept also going like "I could make a design that looks more like a character tied to the enemies from that game than that fucking coomer" and then this weird halfway point happened due to me being too lazy to start a new image because I was zombie levels of tired when making this. This is not the first time I have seen potential in something I hated, by the way.
Some elements were kept from the cursed images I saw but if I was more awake when doing this I'd probably have made those even more different. Either way it looks cooler despite being technically shittier in terms of visual quality and isn't tied to some insane Sonic trannyslave fanfic thing.

Might do another thing like this sometime since I liked how cool this came out. As in similar to this weird mashup concept that ended up happening, but with a different (but similar) enemy and a much different outfit. Already been getting ideas for shit thanks to noticing the teeth on the little enemy robots from sonic heroes kind of look like a shirt collar or a scarf pulled up over the face if you look at things wrong. Probably just gonna use the homestuck character again because it's just become my thing now against all odds.
